Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy once drank some warm beer on top of the Totem Pole. And the strangest thing of all is, back in those days it was within walking distance of Zion National Park !!
Monument Valley is a truly amazing place. I will post additional videos in the coming months. This first video is a mere peek into the natural beauty found there.
Exceptionnel, hallucinant, fascinant... les mots ne sont plus assez fort pour exprimer verbalement toute cette beauté féérique que la nature nous offre !!
Beautiful, strange. Amazing. It is a red rocky mountain. Has a strange shape. It is a miracle in the creation of nature. Reminds us of the Indian people. Cowboy riding a horse carrying a gun. It's really a classic of this place ...
Is there any pillar of rock in the whole world that can compare to the Totem Pole? Seems like a breath of wind will blow it over. Imagine being put down there on the top by force, via a helicopter, and you have to find your own way down. Superb video, captures the atmosphere of this place so well (and I have been there in real life).
Hi Steve! I really like your video.Amazing! I subscribed. You know I just need a few details for my guitar video. Will you allow me to use your movie? Thank you in advance for your answer. 1
Fantastic shot of the top of the Totem Pole, but who left that apparently fixed rope up there? According to 2 websites I looked at, rock climbing is illegal in the Tribal Park.
I just watched Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy drinking "warm beer" up on top of the Totem Pole. There is no way in the world I would even go there, much less climb that matchstick! Of course, I have acrophobia so I wouldn't even try. It's difficult for me to understand why anyone would even want to climb that spike! Just because it's there is the only reason I can comprehend! But then, I don't like the Valley there either, since I'm not a desert rat. I DO like to see it on film though, but far more interesting to me is how they were formed and when.
@@stevenoble2442 That makes much more sense, since I don't think Clint is into mountain-climbing, except maybe in "The Eiger Sanction" and I rather doubt some of that was Hollywood pretense also! Eastwood is a great guy but I think he has some self-imposed limits, and it's just as well, as he is about 89 now, I think! He did a lot of daring things 40-50 years ago though!
it's owned & run by the local Native group so they might let you fly your drone for a fee. It's not a National Park where it is completely illegal to fly
That is a great question.! It looks like a grinding hole but I can't imagine it was used as such. I can only guess that it was made be some of the climbers. Perhaps a climber can enlighten us.
I don't know what caused it but in 1956 my father and his friends climbed it for the first time and they had to pee in it because they had to go! You can find pictures on line. look up Dolt photos or Donald Wilson, river accident. That was my father, it was in National Geographic in I believe 1956
A: On the 14 x 25-foot summit of the Totem Pole, following the first ascent. Photo taken by Bill Feuerer. Left to right: Mark Powell, Don Wilson and Jerry Gallwas. A tour bus is visible on the desert floor (arrow), just above the rock cairn between Powell and Wilson. B: Auto-timed shot of all 4 team members on the summit. Left to right: Powell, Gallwas, Feuerer and Wilson. Note the puddle in foreground. It had not been raining. From Jerry Gallwas (pers. commun.): “The picture of the four of us on top of the Totem Pole was taken with Bill Feuerer's camera. There were 100 people on the ground watching and we needed to pee so we gathered in a circle as if to pray and used the only dimple on top.” (Dolt Collection, courtesy of Jerry Gallwas.)
Amazing! I'm here because this Totem Pole is quoted in a book: 1001 Natural Wonders: You Must See Before You Die by Michael Bright, pg 91.

Beautiful color on these shots Steve! What drone did you use? I'm looking to get one very soon.
DJI Phantom 4 Pro
The round holes on top are lightning strike spots.
Nice video, but this is not in 4K, in fact I think UA-cam does not even do 4k, only 1080p.
Why is there no 4k otion to watch?

That is one of my favorite aerial shots. I was told Clint Eastwood was helicoptered up there.
I 1st remember it in Gregeroy Pecks movie MaKennas Gold.
4K UHD? Clickbait! This is max 1080p !!
But the video, awesome views!
top !

I think they arrived via helicopter

whats with a rope left ontop of it.?...Sad
is it okey to fly the drone there? i would love to take some of those shopts too, but without being arrested

Nice, but don't say it's 4k when it's obviously not. You might have recorded it in 4k but this is NOT 4k viewing....at all.
Yes, too many video vendors do that. They say something like "shot in HD", but the consumer is getting a standard definition disk or tape.
I guess they dont really know what 4K means.
only ancient tree basins razed by a civilization unknown to us
the round hole on the top was also where they peed because people were watching from a helicopter and, hell, after two days they needed to go!

I tried to google this but I had no luck.

Ya. Don’t you ever say it’s in 4K ever again unless it is, or you’re going to be in big trouble. it’s 4 KN A.
I see tree roots.
What's the deal with that divot at the summit?
