I love the jazzy new camera Dale. Crystal clear and great close ups. Whomever told you that you would harden copper by annealing is getting mixed up. Ferrous metals harden due to the formation of martensite. You are doing it right. Best wishes, Dean.
Thanks Dean, I think some more time with the camera will garner better results. Yes, I know, I have been doing this way for years, you can for sure feel the difference. Some folks are too far out on the north 40.
Thanks Vincent, I am still learning, so I hope it will improve more yet. Yes, I think petroleum jelly would work just fine. The Bendix lube I use is made exclusively for point wicks, although it was made for that in the 60's. So, I am sure there is better stuff available now. I was just hoping to use it all up before I kick the bucket. LOL
Hello Dale It’s lovely to see you in the shop again you look like a new man all refreshed. Great job, I really like the new camera I think it will make your channel much better. It’s nice and clear and better to see what you’re doing and I really like the close up shots. I brought myself a set of JIS screwdrivers and a set of long reach JIS impact driver bit. They really do work much better on them Japanese screws. See you on the next video Dale take care Brian.
Thanks Brian, I appreciate the feedback, I am sure with some more learning of functions and how to use them I will be able to improve some more. You are going to love the JIS drivers.
Regarding annealing, steel will get harder after heating and quenching, not copper. The opposite is true. Some people need some more learning. And I've been waiting for this video too to apply your tips toward my YZ80 build.
Hey Dave, yes, the audio is good if I remember to put on and turn on the transmitter. Learning more every day, hope to get the focus to work quicker for those close-up shots.
Thanks Jack, so far, I like the camera, got a black Friday deal on it on Amazon. I really don't know anything about cameras, so I watch a lot of reviews and such on UA-cam. They also have a lot of functions that I don't think I will ever use.
Your video content was always great, this new camera is just a step further in Quality for shure" Sony the one and only" always look forward to your next video and realy enjoy seeing the small CC bikes getting some love. I have rebuilt a few Suzuki 50, 75, 80, 90, and 125s..TM,TC,TS,RM..thru the years. Merry Christmas and Happy new year Dale.
Thanks Shawn, I'm learning more everyday about the camera, I think it is indeed better than the GoPro. I agree about the small bikes; I have a soft spot for them. I guess because that's where I started. Merry Christmas to you folks too.
Looking forward to hearing that beauty fire up. I can imagine the owner will be really grateful for your efforts. I'm still fabricating replicas of the 76 RM 370b swingarm with the torque plates and forks as upgrades for my projects. Can't seem to find anymore on the internet. The 185 and 125 are finally finished.
Thanks Dave, me too, ready to hear this little guy. I guess I'm not familiar with the torque plates on the swingarms. Are you referring to the aluminum swing arms of the later models, those started in 1978 on the 250 C2 models. Nice to see you having some fun with these old bikes. I enjoy them a lot, lots of fun.
@@montana2strokeracer I am welding on the torque plates to the top Andy bottom of the swingarms just like I did for the 71 TS250 and TS400. I got that idea after watching your video when you put that C2 swingarm on your modified Yamaha MX bike. It eliminates flexing same as the installation of the additional gussets to the frame. I have made similar upgrades on the 125s and 185s. There were big improvements in the ride and handling on all of the projects including the 74 TM125, 185MX, TM250 and TM400. Also made the same upgrades on the 71 TM250 and TM400.
Oh OK, I understand now. Dave you are kind of motorcycle poor these days. Maybe you should be on the lookout for another bike soon. Just can't run out of projects you know. LOL
camera focus is good especially in the center where the subject is. Dale like many big time youtubers the quality of the finished product get better with money and experience.
Yesterday I shot an about 2 hours on my $249 Chinese VLOG camera. It has some nice features, but a couple weeks ago it quit recording sound. I did a factory reset and it came back. This time all 2 hours were without sound and the factory reset didn't make any difference. So this morning I was looking at the very camera you have purchased. I looked at it before I bought the piece of junk I have now, but it was too expensive. You'd think after being around for 81 years I would have learned that sometimes you may NOT EVEN get what you pay for when you buy cheap stuff.
Jack that sucks to lose footage or audio like that, I have done it also, in most cases you just can't make it up. Man, I have done that and still continue to try the cheaper things like that, even knowing it will bite me in the butt, I still do it. You might try a new and a good brand, correct size SD card, I have had success at times fixing my problems by grabbing a new card.
@@montana2strokeracer Thanks Dale. I tried a new San Disk Ultra Plus and still no sound. I've got an older Canon that does a decent job but no 4K and no external microphone, but it does do better than the Go Pros with close ups. Now if I can just remember to keep my body parts out of the way of the camera when working, lol.
Well, I guess it was worth a try. I really don't know that much about cameras, so I am no authority. But I just try stuff like that when I have a problem. I don't film in 4k, on my GoPro I use 1080 and on this new one I am using 1280. I just don't see that it makes much difference except the battery last longer and the SD card doesn't fill up so quick on 1080/1280.
7:58 With copper you can leave it to cool slowly OR drop it in water, either way will anneal it, ferrous metals will go hard if you quench them, copper obviously not being a ferrous metal.
Thank you, sir, I just have never had a problem doing it like this. The last video I annealed a gasket in, a guy said I was making it harder. Thats sure not what I feel when I anneal them.
Dale you're right about annealing copper. In fact you can quench it or let it air cool, only difference is the time you have to wait. Nay sayers are confusing it with heat treating carbon steel. Hardening & tempering using water or oil. etc etc.
Thanks Darren, yes there are some folks out there that just shouldn't open their mouth about things they really don't know about. I don't know all the molecule stuff, but I know the way I do it works and has for 50 years plus. I do on occasion do some harding and tempering also. Usually use the oil quench technique.
@@montana2strokeracer as an apprentice we learned about it, perlite to martensite I think it was, a long time ago now. Can't remember the exact details. Quenching at 'straw' colour for chisel tips if I recall correctly.
Hey Darren, I know almost nothing about it, I have an app on my phone that tells me all I need to know. But annealing copper I have done for years. Nothing to it. I harden steel parts from time to time too, but I just look it up. No room in my brain for that kind of stuff.
Hi Dale, great video. Very informative and nicely presented. I probably missed this point in one of your other videos - what type of grease do you use on the gaskets? Thanks, Dave.
Thank you very much, nice to have you along for the ride. Really any light grease will do. It is just to prevent it from sticking to the cases. I use Super Lube.
Good evening Dale, I really like the new camera!!! Everything looked really crisp and seemed to be a lot more sharp. What is the blue motor stand you are using? I have been busy doing paint work, I will have more videos out soon, I hope…lol
Hey Don, yes still learning about the camera, just takes some time. The engine jig is an OTC 7020. I saw the two tanks you just finished, beautiful, great work my friend. Glad to see your eye is healing up. Nice to see you can return to work. Retirement is just around the corner for you. Now you know what it tastes like. LOL

Hey that's great Marcel, yes, the 38mm web width is what you want. If you have that everything else is cool. Let me know how you make out, good luck on your project.
Can anyone help me please? Recently I bought some new piston rings for my 2 stroke motorcycle it's an yamaha rx100. So like there are two rings. One has an angle cut end gap and the other has straight cut end gap. What is the order of the rings to fit in the piston groove.
I am not familiar with the RX100, after a quick search, it apparently is much newer than the bikes I typically work on. I have not seen the angle cut end gap that you're talking about. I would try to find a factory Yamaha service manual; it should provide the information you are looking for.
@montana2strokeracer thanks for replying. So like here is what I found there are two piston ring and grooves in the 2 stroke. The angle cut end gap piston ring is a typical compression ring design and the oil ring generally has straight cut end gap for scraping the oil more effectively, there are some design variation. I searched all over internet and after that I found similar installation. I don't know but after installation the compression is good.Generally the installation number is written on the rings. But in my case there was nothing. My reed valve is compromised and I ordered a new oem reed so like am waiting for it! Haha I hope my motorcycle gets up running properly! Finger crossed🤞
you don't have 2 drop the gasket in water, slow cooling will work 2, good 2 see you back at it, happy holiday's from the bluegrass, your friend in ky...
