- Once you take the plunge and buy a 3D printer and find some STL files you like, you'll want to master the basic printer settings. In part four of this introductory series, Steve zeroes in on the most important settings you need to know for getting a good print.

Good video Steve. Never even thought much about getting a 3D printer until you started talking about it on Little Wars. Now I NEED one. 👍😆
As soon as my new gaming space is complete this will be the top of my list. Thanks!
Good stuff, Steve. Thanks! While there are plenty of videos out there on printers and printing, you've tailored it perfectly for what we need and want.
That was my goal!
Great overview. Very accessible/informative.
Thank you for explaining up front that there is no mystical perfect setting for FDM printing.
Yes, printer, filament, ambient conditions are all variables that will make differences in quality of printing
In Cura there is an experimental setting called "Tree Supports" which will build sort of like a branching tree of support material and may be able to reach those overhangs that are above other parts of the model, ive found them to be really useful for minimize cleanup in a lot of situations and while filament is cheap it also mostly uses less of it than regular supports.
Thank you for the video Steve. I've recently purchased a Prusa Mini to make miniature game pieces, and the biggest issue I have is supports. The few mini's that I've printed so far the supports have been pretty tough to remove. Do you set up any advanced settings on your Prusa slicer to make it easier to remove the supports? One thing I did do was use the option to place supports everywhere and I noticed in this video you had it at a different setting.
thank you
Where can I find that temperature Calibration Print? For that matter, how about some of the other calibration tools like the overhang and stringing prints that you showed?
Ooops. Forgot to put links in the description. They should be there now.
Fantastic set of videos. Am thinking of getting a printer and these have really helped.
Could you do a video at a later date about changing the scale of printing.
Say if I had a file that was in 15mm but want it in 28mm
Very easy to do in your slicer, Jason! This will depend in the slicer software you're using, but you can change the scale up or down in the software before going to print.
Another great vid on 3D printing. I knew of some terms, but my vocabulary has increased...thank you. Where can I find those two gauges you show cased in your vid for calibration? Thanks again.
Ooops. Forgot to put links in the description. They should be there now.
Awesome! Thank you again.
Any chance of continuing this series now??
Where can one purchase the figures you used in your Trafalgar presentation?
They are Langton Miniatures!
@@LittleWarsTV I checked out their website... ordering methods seems wonkie... reliable?
More 3D printing vids!! (I'm a Patreon BTW)
Thanks, Matt! And your request has been formally filed with the Office of Future Video Ideas
Excellent series! Please give us more on 3d printing. Would love to see what software you used to design your Parthenon.
Have you ever contracted a 3D artist to develop a mini ( or series of minis) for you to print?
Steve designs some of his own buildings and is self taught. But as a matter of fact, yes, for the first time ever we are working with a 3D artists on a new miniatures project. You'll be hearing plenty more about that later!
@@LittleWarsTV Thanks! Hope it's soon.
Huh... that stringing calibration looks like it could be used for a "mysterious portal" or something.
