Bloody hell, never thought I'd get so invested in seeing someone start to restore an amusement park ride. I've dabbled in restoration myself but mostly of vintage toys and Japanese game systems; the fact people like you are out here restoring old rides like this is amazing!
I used to move one of these "rocket" rides about 25 years ago. We had a show full of King rides, in the 90's and early 2000's. Our Rocket was a ground mount.
Wow I’m actually just like you I have a fascination with amusement park rides amusement parks in general I just love them there’s just something magical ever since I was a kid I’ve always had this fascination
I truly don't understand youtube--for someone who watches urban explorer videos like dead malls and things like that, plus. Disneyland history why they wouldn't give me this? Because this is fantastic. I love this. I'll be sure binge watch this whole thing. I had no idea that I would find this restoration. so fascinating, but it definitely is. Thank you for presenting it.
I’m glad you did too! If I might ask, (because I’m always curious how this works) how did you find me? Were you looking for something in particular or did UA-cam just recommend one of my videos out of the blue?
Do you think you'd ever consider doing this but with a small coaster? Coasters are a lot bigger and difficult, but the surprising number of people that have made their own backyard roller coasters show that it isn't too crazy of an idea.
I would probably not be interested in building anything from scratch, but if the opportunity came along to restore a traveling version of a kiddie coaster or wild mouse I'd certainly be interested in that!
Hi Pete I lived near Mt Clemens during my childhood now living in PA The King family lived on the next street over They also had a small farm amusement farm in Richmond Michigan that my family would visit as a child I also tinker with similar projects
Just came across your channel and LOVE IT!! Not sure where you are, I am in eastern PA and a former Amusement Ride Inspector and Technician (worked for many years at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in the older days). Quite familiar with that ride, looks much like one that was at the old Bushkill Park in Easton, PA. Will be watching to see how this comes along!
I'd play around with a hunk of cardboard to figure out those tricky cuts and suggest using HD 4 or 5 wire cord for durability rather than single wires. I find that using 2" pieces of pipe every few ft & in the corners keeps the wiring clean, give both sides of the floor at least 3 or 4 thick coats of enamel so it lasts for 10 yrs. I'm looking forward to watching your progress...
Yep, good suggestions- There actually is pipe that the original trailer wiring was run in. They chose to wire -tie the replacement wires to the outside of the pipe. Glad to have you along- should be a fun project!
In my case I just put the word out I was looking for old rides and I happened to mention it to the right person. But for a zipper, there is one right now for sale on usedrides.com. $160k and it’s yours. Thanks for watching!
Such an awesome project... just found your page so not sure how far you've gotten on it, IF you haven't recovered the frame yet..would it be possible to put deck boards back on it instead of the plywood?? we did that on a utility trailer & it was a lot easier to maintain & paid fir itself in no time..
Hi John, glad to have you along! Two options I am currently considering are some sort of decking material as you mentioned, or putting down aluminum diamond plate. Time and budget will make the final decision for me- LOL Thanks for the suggestion!
Well, assuming I finish it in a timely manner, my grand-kids are at the appropriate age to enjoy it for a few years. Beyond that, I don't know.. maybe trade up to a tilt-a-whirl or something!
If need parts or people experienced with Carny Rides try Gibsonton Florida where Carny's Wintered forever, lots of Old Rides and Carny's still living there
Yes! I’ve got a video where I visited Gibtown (or at least the tradshow and museum). A few ride rebuilders down there have contacted me offering to show me around if I return.
Also another amazing place is just a little further south in Parrish where a company their does Circus on Ice and Monster Truck Stuff , Feld Entertainment is their Name, my Brother Mark worked there and has a Wing named after him@@PeteRondeau
I'M FROM NORTHWESTERN PA I OWN A SANDBLASTING AND PAINTING COMPANY I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DO SOME WORK ON THIS FOR YOU IN TRADE OF SOME GUIDENCE IN 3D PRINTING AND RECAMENDATIONS OF WHAT TO BUY
I would love to take you up on this offer but North Western Pa is a pretty good haul from south central pa, But I'd be happy to share anything I can about 3D printing if you have specific questions. Send me an email through the address listed in the video description and we can chat.
I don’t know what the test being performed with the stick is,(in my defense I am not a restoration expert) , but he was thorough. Hopefully he was able to gain all the data he required
Use the standard carnival ride formula: (cost_per_ride X number_of_riders) X (hours_per_day) = one_day_income (one_day_income X 7) = How much money can a carnival ride make in a week
The local technical college should send over some drafting and design students over to your place to help and actually do some work and learn something.. I would have loved it instead of sitting in a classroom for hours and hours.
Could be worse... You could be restoring an old Eyerly Aircraft _Octopus_ or _Spider,_ but definitely NOT a _Monster!_ Those were always more permanent mount for theme parks... If in a winter zone, they remove the cars, drive motors for the car cluster arms (if not the cluster arms themselves), and reduce the levels of and seal the lube/hydro systems...
You'd be surprised. I mentioned to a friend that I was interested in restoring a carnival ride and he said, "Oh, I know a guy that has 4 of them in his backyard". Then I mentioned it to another guy and he said "Oh, we've got an antique Ferris Wheel stored in a truck" So they're out there.. you just gotta tell everyone you meet what you intend to do and they start coming out of the woodwork. LOL
That sounds awesome! The toboggan was one of the first adult rides I remember riding as a kid. And I've always wanted to own a dark ride. That is a bucket list item for me.
Really excited about starting this new project with a lot of different facets to keep it interesting. Hope you enjoy following along.

Binge watching this project, and you definitely need a sponsorship from PB Blaster, LoL.
Enjoy the content, Pete !!

Fantastic meeting you this past weekend. Looking forward to watching this project unfold.
Same here! I'll be following along with you as well.
Im jealous!! I want to get into the business really bad. Glad I found your channel.
5:55 i like what they did with the ride in this pic it looks really nice it be cool if you did the paint like that
Yes. I wish I had a better picture of what it actually looked like back then. So far no pictures have surfaced
Very excited to see how this shapes up!
Thanks for following along!
Thanks for the amazing videos, Pete. This has quickly become one of my favorite UA-cam channels.
Thank you! I really appreciate hearing that!
It gives you something to do, once it's running you can ride it when you get bored.

Question, how do you buy a ride? I've been thinking of buying a zipper but I didn't know how to. At the point I'm at I'm thinking of just making one.
In my case I just put the word out I was looking for old rides and I happened to mention it to the right person. But for a zipper, there is one right now for sale on usedrides.com. $160k and it’s yours. Thanks for watching!
@@PeteRondeau thank you so much, price is MUCH cheaper than a new zipper.

LOL that could probably be arranged!
These rides was my dad's in Michigan if you want more history on them contact me
Sure! always interested in gathering history
So Pete, What will you do with it when you are done?
Well, assuming I finish it in a timely manner, my grand-kids are at the appropriate age to enjoy it for a few years. Beyond that, I don't know.. maybe trade up to a tilt-a-whirl or something!

Should've done the Paratrooper 😀.

I would sand blast the trailer
That is the new plan. hopefully getting to that in the next few weeks before it gets too hot outside. Thanks for watching!
I have one I need a manual for it, I refurbished it
From what I’ve heard, king wasn’t much on printing manuals. I believe some exist but they were owner/operator created.
King Amusement Co, didn't they make those weird janky powered kiddie coasters?
If by janky you mean it had a post in the center and an extension cord going to the train then yes. Lol

Lol. If you can find me Carnival rides for less than $100 I’d buy them all day, every day.
If you don't mind me asking Pete how much do these rides go for in this condition?
i want to buy a log ride and install the ride in a back yard is it possible@peteRondeau.
it all depends how large your bank account and back yard are.
