Finding the fire ring is definitely a Wow ! That's so cool. I hope anyone else who finds it leaves it alone for others to marvel as well. Congratulations Jeff.👏
I was driving my school bus, along with another, taking 5th graders from Sacramento to Yosemite for a week. We got stopped by CHP. Had no clue why. The officer explained a movie was being shot and we needed to turn the buses off and windows up. I looked over and seen the engine behind the DeLorean. We watched them starting to push the DeLorean and off we went after it was clear. That was one of the coolest things that I was fortunate to see. That old building in the background was in a 60s film I forgot the name of. Thought I'd share a fun moment of my life. Be safe and happy everyone

I think the CHP seen an opportunity to do something for the kids. I really don't know. It was amazing to watch. Some of the perks of being a school bus driver. You never know.🙂

Back to the future, three was my first first job in the entertainment business because I owned the biggest lathe in Tuolumne county. I had to modify the railroad wheels for the DeLorean, because it was continually derailing when it went over switches, it turned into a 30 year career in special effects.
I worked on the miniatures as well. There were two prop miniature locomotives that were dropped into the canyon in Marin County. The driving wheels were iron castings and they were retrieved. One set is under locomotive number seven at the Tilden Park steam train in Berkeley, California.
Another great movie/tv history lesson. Thanks, Jeff. I hope your friend's followers like his video as well. Congrats on finally finding the fire ring. I'm looking forward to your next adventure in history.

I rode on the #3 train way back in 96 when I lived up in Douglas Flat area. We went out only a couple miles and then they turned her around and we came back to the Jamestown station. But it was fun. Funny note about the The Runaway Caboose episode if you don't know already. There is a scene where the train is chugging along and you can see a white pick up driving down old hwy 4 I think way in the background. I always get a kick out of seeing that "blooper"
My family lived in Chinese Camp back in the early '70's. I went to the "pagoda" school while my older siblings went to Sonora for school. I remember these places so well. Thanks so much for this video as well as your others. I live a few states over now, and this is a nice way to visit the old stomping grounds.

I've been to Railtown, it is a fantastic place. There is so much Hollywood history there. I was very excited to see the Petticoat Junction water tower. Thanks for bringing up the memories.
At the very beginning of the clip @ 4:50 the man on the left with his head turned was a local extra who had one speaking word in the movie: “Clara.” That man’s name is Victor Belprez with whom I worked when I was a teenager on Sierra RR excursion trains in the 70’s. Victor tended bar on the trains and later at the St. Charles Saloon in Columbia when this movie was made. Victor was a big, gentle guy who taught elementary school, owned a chimney sweep business and gave good advice to a young me. One of the most magically serene nights of my life was in the early 80’s at the St. Charles during a rare snowfall. The power went out and we sat in the old saloon with the pot belly stove crankin’ and the coal oil lanterns lit, Victor pouring the beer. We had a cribbage tournament with other patrons and left the bar with the trees (and me) lightly dusted and only enough snow on the road to keep things quiet. This is why I love your channel. God bless the History Hunters and God bless my friend Victor, RIP. Many thanks you guys. Great show. Brings joy in ways you probably don't expect. 🙂
Wow that was a really nice and interesting comment that you left for me! Such a warm reverence of your friend, who I didn’t know about! He sounded like a great guy. Do you know where Victor is buried?
@@jbenziggy According to findagrave, he's in the Shaws Flat Cemetery. His wife Linda is there, too. The last time I visited with them years ago, they gave me a couple of original bottles of "JB Douglass Saloon" Sarsaparilla extract concentrate from the '70's. I still have one bottle! Fine folks. Thanks, Jeff.
Another fine program, Jeff! My late mother helped drive Zumwalt family cattle from Altaville/Angels Camp into the summer ranges near Highland Lakes and Folger Peak back in the mid-'20s. Charlie Tryon, a fixture in the Angels Camp community, lived just above the Sierra Railroad tracks as they entered Angels. His dog would run down to the trackside to get the paper that was tossed from the first train from Jamestown in the AM.... Charlie called the Sierra RR into Angels the "Tri-Daily" because it would leave and "try all day" to make it back in the afternoon. At the time, there were various switchbacks the trains had to negotiate to get down to and up from the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River bed (now inundated by the new Melones Reservoir. KEep up the fabulous efforts! Best, PK
Thank you so much for sharing this episode. Love it. Been to Jamestown many of times & visited railtown as well. Love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thank you so much. How have you been, Jim? You live in the south, don’t you? Presently we are getting hammered by a storm, which is making things pretty wet out here in California.
Jeff, I can't believe your work it's incredible ! You come up with more information . It would take me a year to come up with I only wish you could put out more then one per week. THANK you Frank from Montana......
Kind of reminds me of the trip I took years ago around Baker City in Oregon to find the filming site of No Name City from Paint Your Wagon. You would never know it was there.
So cool jeff, I loved this watching the sets and the trains that was used in those sets. partically the train that was used in high noon. loved that. and the caboose that little joe used as well, There was another train used in the tv western show the wild wild west. I do know the inside shots was done on a set tho. but they also had a real train they used in that show. not sure were that train is now. kinda of a shame those movies won't pick up there mess after filming is done tho. seeing the pieces left is just littering the earth more. Thankyou jeff. I enjoyed seeing the sets.
One technical thing to mention. The pipes you saw in front of the roundhouse are fire tubes not water tubes. In a fire tube boiler hot gasses go through the tubes from the firebox to the smoke box and out the exhaust stack. The tubes are surrounded by water in the boiler which is where the heat transfer occurs to make steam.
Always enjoy, but really enjoyed this one, plus around 10 years ago did visit Jamestown and saw the #3 Engine. Thanks for sharing and I'll be sharing your Video with my model train friends. (I have a 1/87 DeLorean and steam engine that I run at train shows.)

We were there yesterday! The tour guide gave us a "white lie" from Hollywood - all their engines used in TV and movies were disguised to look like wood burners! They are actually all oil burner engines. I guess the executives didn't like the look of that 😂
Next time you are in Lee Vining, even though it is gone, but visiting the spot Clint Eastwood built Lago on the shores of Mono Lake might be cool. Seen High Plains Drifter 10 times and it wasnt until the last time about a year ago I recognized Mono Lake and never realized this fact before about Lago CA?
Trust me, I almost visited there in the fall but wasn’t able to. I know exactly where it is located and researched it well! Give me some time for that one!
If you browse the movie it should be easy on the southwest corner of Mono. Some scenes show the tufas. Cant wait. They also used a forested area but cant remember where exactly.@@jbenziggy
This is the only reason that the Sierra railroad is the only one left that still connects to the mountains Because they could repurpose the railroad to shoot movies and TV that kept the railroad from being tore up
@@jbenziggy Where are the exterior shots of Sam Drucker's store from season 1 ? Also the tracks , where the dog from The Shady Rest , is running behind the train ?
You should someday try to make it to THREE VALLEY GAP in British Columbia, it’s a ghost town, old trains, super impressive old cars, buildings etc…. Helicopter rides, Gold mines….pretty cool, then close by is the Enchanted Forest…some cool history and good times. Cheers
Shame he's not a Gary Cooper or Clint Eastwood fan, you could have taken him up to Columbia SHP for High Noon and Pale Rider. (Or more obscure The Young Riders TV show barn built that now houses all the wagons that's kept up there and the hearse)
@@zcam1969 incorrect. I've been fortunate enough to see rare behind-the-scenes footage of the original Petticoat Junction film shoot in Jamestown in 1963. The on-location scenes were shot on the Sierra Railroad, the miniatures and set stand-ins were shot on the Burbank lot. I believe the scenes you refer to that were shot in Oregon are of parts of the Shady Rest Hotel.
@@mikeninneman6575 the scene with the theme song and the dog chasing the train was shot in Oregon .thats my believe . i maybe wrong .but in the ending credits of the show it say's train provided by Bartway Portland Oregon
As a young girl I got to ride on the train several times. My dad was involved in steam engine and railroad repair. We (my dad’s business) had a round house too dating back to the 1880’s. It was I. Oroville. Now gone. A fire burned it down in the late 70’s.
We went on a Saturday so we could ride the steam engine which was so cool and I recommend you visit the museum. The workshop is very interesting and shows how they repair the engines and the a working machine shop and turn wheel with all volunteer. if you’re interested in trains and movies with trains this is for you!
The SIERRA RAILROAD was HOLLYWOOD's go-to railroad even though the studios had their own trains and rolling stock... Big movies like DODGE CITY with Errol Flynn, MAN OF THE WEST with Gary Cooper, and TV's CASEY JONES and IRON HORSE... I din't get to work on BACK TO THE FUTURE II or III, but I did work on the original, even with Eric Stoltz at the start through to Michael J. Fox whilst he was on his sitcom at the same time... boy he had the energy back then!
Great video. Around 1989 I guess I talked on the phone with elderly technical gun coach and holster maker Arvo Ojala who taught fast draw to Marylin Monroe, Paul Newman, and endless others including Michael J Fox. He told me he was recently working at BTTF 3 on this movie set. I was mad wishing I called earlier as I fantasized that I might have gotten him to let me watch. Ojala also did Three Amigos and you can see “Biff” in this film is wearing a holster that one of the Amigos wore, but on a plain belt. Like a dummy I put off visiting the place before it burned down.
Never watched either BffF or LHoP, but I sure do like that part of CA. Maybe if Gavin Gruesom destroys CA, the Gold Country can join NV. Lori Saunders was the best PJ girl.
Ok Jeff, that fire happened in 1995 and burned up alot. Like most fires in calaveras county, it was started by an exhaust pipe on a car which set fire for miles as it drove through the grass ,and the culprit was never caught, what a shame.
Hello History Hunters, I love Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, were any scenes filmed in your area? Those old trains are beautiful, thank goodness some are still running, they’re being preserved and appear in movies. 🚂
Hi Jeff! Awesome video! As the wife and I watched your video, I told her I didn't remember seeing the neat stack displays when I was up there as a teenager. Then it hit me, you reminded me how old I was, Back to the Future was not filmed yet. :) Oh well, cant stop time. Next visit to see family in Sonora and Columbia, we will stop and check it out. Where's that DeLorean when you need it to go back in time haha.
Jeff, Adam the Woo's video from the other day with Biff (Tom) from Back To The Future was a really good video as well. Good job on finding these locations. I enjoyed this one even though I am not a fan of the movie.
I remember well the filming of Back to the Future because I am a truck driver and remember being held up on 120 as they didn’t want any vehicles showing up in the background on some scenes... if I remember right the CHP would not allow them to hold traffic for anymore then 20 minutes at a time... and there were plenty of signs warning of the delays ahead so you could take an alternate route
back in the day we use to let the air out of our tires and ride those same tracks. the movie set down chinese camp area burned in early 90s from lightning fires. i could show them where the movie OLD YELLER was filmed
Interesting video. I’m old enough to remember seeing the smoke from those old steam trains and actually rode on one when I was in kindergarten, only about 6 miles, from my little home town to the neighboring town.

This is the only reason that the Sierra railroad is the only one left that still connects to the mountains
Because they could repurpose the railroad to shoot movies and TV that kept the railroad from being tore up
Very cool! Do you know, would that old mill building have been constructing solely for movie productions or was it there prior?
It was just for film production. It was all just a fake front, nothing inside.
Can you please share a picture exactly where the old saw mill where you were standing on the tracks.
I would have liked to have seen m, more of the tracks and water tower, where Petticoat Junction was filmed .
Only the train scenes in the opening were shot in Jamestown. I basically showed everything relating to Petticoat Junction.
@@jbenziggy Where are the exterior shots of Sam Drucker's store from season 1 ? Also the tracks , where the dog from The Shady Rest , is running behind the train ?
Was the fire intentionallly set?
No, it was a lightning strike.
You should someday try to make it to THREE VALLEY GAP in British Columbia, it’s a ghost town, old trains, super impressive old cars, buildings etc…. Helicopter rides, Gold mines….pretty cool, then close by is the Enchanted Forest…some cool history and good times.
Cheers

Hey Jeff !
What flavour pizza 🍕 did you guys have?
Always the combination!
Shame he's not a Gary Cooper or Clint Eastwood fan, you could have taken him up to Columbia SHP for High Noon and Pale Rider. (Or more obscure The Young Riders TV show barn built that now houses all the wagons that's kept up there and the hearse)
Petticoat Junction train was filmed in Oregon. it has a smaller wheel base and smaller rail track
You are very mistaken.
@@jbenziggy No Jeff ! google it .research it . i think it is mentioned in the credits
@@jbenziggy Portland Oregan train ride
Sorry Jeff but at 206 the pipes handled the fire and the water surrounded them. I am a steam guy.
Whoops
Boring
Hope you find a channel you like.
As a young girl I got to ride on the train several times. My dad was involved in steam engine and railroad repair. We (my dad’s business) had a round house too dating back to the 1880’s. It was I. Oroville. Now gone. A fire burned it down in the late 70’s.
. Thanks for Taking us back to the future 😂
Hello Jeff, Happy Sunday! Thanks for sharing this filming location again. It's great to learn about history. Have a wonderful day!
We went on a Saturday so we could ride the steam engine which was so cool and I recommend you visit the museum. The workshop is very interesting and shows how they repair the engines and the a working machine shop and turn wheel with all volunteer. if you’re interested in trains and movies with trains this is for you!
I always learn something new from you when watching. Great info. Thank you Jeff.
Great video
Thanks for the visit!
Hello History Hunters,
I love Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson, were any scenes filmed in your area? Those old trains are beautiful, thank goodness some are still running, they’re being preserved and appear in movies. 🚂
Hi Jeff! Awesome video! As the wife and I watched your video, I told her I didn't remember seeing the neat stack displays when I was up there as a teenager. Then it hit me, you reminded me how old I was, Back to the Future was not filmed yet. :) Oh well, cant stop time. Next visit to see family in Sonora and Columbia, we will stop and check it out. Where's that DeLorean when you need it to go back in time haha.
Another great and fun video. Thanks for the mention of Brisco County Jr. A short lived but fun Bruce Campbell show.
Well done Jeff
Jeff, Adam the Woo's video from the other day with Biff (Tom) from Back To The Future was a really good video as well. Good job on finding these locations. I enjoyed this one even though I am not a fan of the movie.
I remember well the filming of Back to the Future because I am a truck driver and remember being held up on 120 as they didn’t want any vehicles showing up in the background on some scenes... if I remember right the CHP would not allow them to hold traffic for anymore then 20 minutes at a time... and there were plenty of signs warning of the delays ahead so you could take an alternate route
Thank you once again for taking us with you. I remember visiting Railtown in 82 when it opened. Fun place to see.
I've always enjoyed your videos of BTTF Jeff. This one is cool because you found the fire ring! Thanks for another look at movie history.
back in the day we use to let the air out of our tires and ride those same tracks. the movie set down chinese camp area burned in early 90s from lightning fires. i could show them where the movie OLD YELLER was filmed
They should rebuild The Set of Back To The Future III and make it A State Park as well and even have The Steam Locomotive 🚂 come through the Town
Interesting video. I’m old enough to remember seeing the smoke from those old steam trains and actually rode on one when I was in kindergarten, only about 6 miles, from my little home town to the neighboring town.
Another good episode... I never knew about railtown... think I might go check it out that's 1 I love anything to do with rail roads
You had me a Back To the future!!! Great find with the fire pit Jeff! Love the video!!!
Right on! 👍🏼 thank you!
Love this video . Just curious , why is there RR tracks and where do they go ? Do they go to the lumber mill ? Thank you .
