    lol tell em Ken…like I told you before I moved away about 8-9 years ago after living there my whole life(I’m 42). My mom still lives in Longwood and she says i4 is ridiculous, I don’t even want to know because it was bad when I left.
    When I worked for the magic from 04-13 I lived in the Solaire and downtown traffic was so bad then I can’t imagine what it’s like now.

    When they lady mentioned Haines City, I cringed. I know all about the growth there. It has blown up in the last few years and continues to boom. Love our area still though. Love you Ken! Been watching since just about Day 1! Glad to see you still going strong. We are about to hit 4K subs later this month.

    The lady from Huntersville, just north of Charlotte, is absolutely right. I'm from Cornelius, which is the next town up, and you have to wait through a couple of light cycles just to get through some intersections up here, and the interstate is nearly stopped during rush hour. The up and coming areas around Orlando just need to plan their infrastructure proactively and then it shouldn't be a huge issue when more people move down.

    • @user-lp9ye1po3w
      @user-lp9ye1po3w 11 місяців тому

      I grew up in South Charlotte and settled in North Charlotte after college. Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson are currently identical to what was happening in South Charlotte when I was a teenager. It will only get worse. I got some land on the lake 7-8 years ago for 5 figures though so I’ll put up with pretty much anything to stay here 😂

    • @casperthegm741
      @casperthegm741 11 місяців тому

      @@user-lp9ye1po3w you got one heck of a deal. But yeah, they just don't have the infrastructure to handle what's here, let alone what all the new large developments the town boards have approved. But everyone wants to move here. We just got a nice price for our house here in Cornelius and are looking forward to our move down to Groveland next month. Something tells me I'm going to see the story repeat itself there, when it comes to traffic buildup.

    I’m torn on this as someone born and raised in FL. The more demand for housing increases our equity but then on the flip side I’m seeing some friends and family unable to find affordable housing. As the population increases, more businesses move in which increases jobs and fun things to do. That also increases the traffic and crowds schools as it’s growing faster than the infrastructure can keep up.
    Bottom line is that it depends on the lifestyle you want and what you can afford. If you want a rural, lower cost of living area you’ll have to move further inland or out of State. Nothing stays the same forever and change comes with growing pains.

    I didn’t see you interview a single Floridian…being born and raised in Winter Haven, Fl. I’ve seen the population explode and nature destroyed, clogged highways, stupid neighborhoods for snowbirds that only get used half the year, we don’t like to share because transplants don’t appreciate what makes Florida unique…swamps drained, orange grooves no longer standing….it sucks just to make more houses for more transplants…..have you seen what people do to Panama City, Destin, or Daytona Beach during spring break….perfect example of why there’s resentment toward people who don’t live here…trash it, rinse, repeat……there’s a love for the state if you’re from here that one can’t explain, transplants will never understand that…you’re interviews seem one sided also….next time maybe get some Floridians over 50 like myself who’ve seen all the changes…bet you don’t get the same answers….

    Question? We're considering moving to Winter Garden from out of state, and we keep hearing that homeowners insurance has gone thru the roof in Florida. Is this true in the Orlando area or is it a coastal issue? Orlando is obviously less vulnerable than coastal cities to hurricanes, does this reflect in the cost of insurance?

Our beautiful natural landscape is being destroyed to build cookie cutter condos and homes, traffic is insane, it has destroyed the housing market both to buy and rent with outrageous inflated prices and so much more. These are real issues that only locals truly understand and are concerned about. Disappointing interview.

    Here are my thoughts on this:
    1 - Don't move here thinking things are cheaper - your insurance will be higher, groceries will be higher (if you shop at Publix), and you will spend much more time in your car getting to places than you think. Yes, we have no state income tax but we have sales tax on pretty much everything except food.
    2 - Don't move here solely because you love Disney and want to be close to it - look, I get it, its a magical place, but life happens. You will work a full week, your kids will have school and extracurricular activities, you will need to run errands, etc. Think about your life now and what you do in your free time that isn't vacation. Do you have a lot of time where you are bored? Well, then it might work out. If you find yourself running around, completing errands, doing laundry on the weekend, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, etc. all these things still exist here. Same goes for the beach - if you live along the coast, you can make time I'm sure, but inland and it will be a trip to the beach and realistically, you
    3 - Think about your work status and what happens if you aren't making the same amount of money should you need to change jobs. Pay here for white collar jobs is likely lower than where you are coming from and while you may bring your job with you, what happens if you need to find a job locally?
    4 - Can you tolerate bugs / snakes / lizards / reptiles / spiders? We have a lot of these...pretty much all year long. You will find a big roach in your house from time to time (they hide in the space along the door seal and drop in when you open the door) and a couple lizards will make it in too. The roaches fly too which is fun..
    5 - We don't have food like wherever you are from - come to this realization soon enough and please don't complain that something was better somewhere else - the response will be "Well, why don't you go back?" or "95 North solves that problem"
    6 - People are cliquey...they tend to form tight little packs within their respective neighborhoods and try to run things and bully those that don't go along with them - the pandemic set this up nicely since everyone got to know their neighbors a lot better than they would have without a pandemic
    7 - On the inverse to 6, people don't know their neighbors if they don't go along with the cliques - people are much more reserved and keep to themselves typically and it is even more the case if people don't have children that forces interactions with other families with kids
    8 - HOAs - there are pros and cons but if you aren't used to having your property scrutinized and you getting fined for something you feel is innocuous, look for a non-HOA home

    Florida is not what it use to be anymore. Yes lots of people are moving in each year and they think it's great but Ive been a Floridian all my life and I miss the Florida from before, the one with barely any traffic, nature in abundance, no crowds, theme parks that were almost empty in low peak seasons, the parks were more enjoyable for locals, friendlier people, way less crime, better education because teachers weren't so overwhelmed with school crowds, less pollution. The knocking down of nature to build more apartments, more hotels more theme parks. Yes it brings jobs and tourism which it always had when it was peak season and then everyone went back to their homes and the state was for the locals again. Now we locals don't have anything left for us because we have to adapt like if we were tourists pay tourists prices and everything has gone up for us as well.

Now, the real question is who is a 100% Floridian? Everyone in Florida is a transplant from some where else. We love Florida. The property tax is great. The weather is perfect except the rainy summers. I wished someone told me that the sunshine state was wet in the summer. Orlando need more reliable public transportation to help with the traffic. The sunrail is great and also the bright line is okay. But we need a rail line that goes across the state east to west. The one thing that we hated about being a resident in celebration was the holiday time traffic is horrible. Halloween and Christmas time are a nightmare for us. The traffic getting home took longer than normal. Cause all the visitors are here.

      The native Americans did tell the pilgrims to stop coming because they were bringing foreign diseases LOL. In fact the Indians have been warring with them for 200 years as a result until they were decimated.

      That natives were also killing each-other for thousands of years before the white man came and fought over territory against each-other so sort of a moot point. @@Michorida

      Well everything comes with a price...more trains, more buildings more housing, more city like building...more traffic, more crowdness.
      Less knocking down of trees to build, less city like life...less crowdness, less traffic.

    You do realize that an elderly state like Florida needs thousands of people moving in every day or the population will drop.

    I love when the people from the East Coast move to southwest Florida because it’s laid-back and then they bring their aggressive, self-serving attitude and driving style and then wonder why most Floridians don't want them here. Contrary to their beliefs, Florida is not better because they are here. If you want the truth, ask people in the service industry. They will really let you know how downhill it’s gone since the East Coast and California people have arrived.
