    Great video! Just wondering where you parked and launched from, and if you had to pay for parking?

    • @ShaunOutdoors
      @ShaunOutdoors  4 роки тому

      I launched out of a resort owned by my friend, but you can launch and park at Surise Resort in the town of Buckhorn, I believe they charge $15 to launch, and you can park there for a few days, or you used to be able to anyway, so you will want to check with the resort. Cheers!

    Have you ever been here during winter?

    Backcountry camping is the best. Less people, less fishing pressure, and the beauty of nature. Good stuff

      Spot on mate, and 'less people' is the number one reason I love it so much (o:

    Great video! I was also 14 when I went on my first backcountry trip and 30 years later I am still going on these trips. This summer I took my 7 year old twin boys on thier first backcountry trip. Canoeing on Long Lake in Kawartha Highlands. The Kawartha's are beautiful.

      Thank you Katana, much appreciated. Like you, I hope to continue doing these trips as long as my body will let me. I have a feeling that these adventures will stay with Owen too (o: Cheers!

    Great edits as always Shaun. I bet camping here is a lot better than back in the UK. Kawartha lakes are so beautiful, even though I’ve never been that far, I did camp and fished Algonquin Park. Just a place to unwind and leave all the stress of everyday life behind. I’m so glad for both of you that you did this, something both you and Owen will remember as long as you live. This time of year is nice because of fewer mosquitoes and black flies, looked like a very enjoyable trip Shaun. Thanks for taking us along, left you a big 👍.

      I’m glad to hear. It’s not easy getting these kids away from their video games and electronics, I have a 10 year old son and I run into same situation. I’m glad to see Owen enjoy the great outdoors. If you ever get a few minutes, check out my last couple of videos on my channel, I think you will enjoy. Some Lake O salmon fishing. Thanks my friend.

    I may have missed it but was this a canoe site or you were able to set up on crown land? Is there somewhere that lists these available spots? Great videos. Thanks

    • @ShaunOutdoors
      @ShaunOutdoors  5 років тому

      No this is not a canoe site, it can be camped on by anyone. These islands are Crown land, so you can camp on any of the crown land islands in the Kawartha Lakes. All we do is head out and scout out islands which we would like to camp on. Many of them up that way have fire pits which I have built over the years. Just grab a boat or canoe and spend a day on the lakes you like to find a spot you'd like to camp on. Sometimes you will show up, especially in the Summer, and someone has beaten you to your spot, so always have a plan B and a plan C. And no, as far as I am aware, there is not a list for these spots.

      @@ShaunOutdoors Great, thank you. I camped many times on Big Island on Pigeon but I was told it was sold and camping is no longer an option. Great to know there are others. Thanks

      @@SeagullTunes Try Stoney, Lovesick and Lower Buckhorn Lakes, they are much prettier lakes too (o;
