I got a cheap Chinese aircraft carrier that had the same motor mechanism. That circular motor piece is probably mass produced and used for all kinds of weird toys, althoug not as much these days. Well not probably, it is most certainly mass-produced and costs under 1 dollar.

No need to open battery cover. You pull the round thing sticking out on the battery cover and it connects battery.
