I LOVE that you said that self-confidence issues triggered your overspending. Same, girl. Same. The social media "highlight reel" did this to me as well as my own perception of self. I am working on this now, and you are a HUGE positive influence on me and my family. Starting in June 2019, we are committing to a debt-free lifestyle and using your BBP workbook to help us. You are awesome. Thank you.

J F I would say put any extra income to your debt. Use the website unbury.me to see how long it will take you to get out of debt. Also if you can get some extra income. I never did that and I know it would have helped me get out of debt faster.

I definitely feel that way also. I realized that I needed accountability and decided to take my journey to UA-cam with a twist. I have $82,000 in debt and I am pushing myself to pay it off in 1 year by getting additional income through every and all legal side hustles and videoing it along the way.

I have been using the snowball method to pay off debt, but I decided to start the avalanche method instead. I was so confused because when I plugged my numbers into the calculator, I kept getting the same interest and the same amount of time no matter which method I used. Then I realized that it was because my debts are already in order for both methods! My smallest debt has the highest interest rate, and so on. Too funny!

  • @ladyfingerhandmade
    @ladyfingerhandmade 2 роки тому +1

I tried the snowball method many years ago (I'm talking before home computers and Excel) and it didn't work for me. I am a very visual person so I think because I couldn't see the progress month over month, I got discouraged. I'm excited to get started on this Excel sheet, I think it will be helpful for me because I'll be able to see my progress. On a side note, I am now working from home so I'm going to sell my car so I will be able to throw the money I was spending on the car payment towards my debt. Thankfully my son who will be in Japan for 3 years has said I can use his car while he's gone. It's paid off so I'll be paying the insurance, gas, and maintenance. And since I was already paying for those things for my car, it doesn't change what I have already budgeted for those items.
I just discovered your channel and I can't thank you enough for all you do. I'm looking forward to going through your other videos as I have time.

We are utilizing a combination of the debt snowball and the debt avalanche methods of paying off our debt. Being a free-spirited nerd, I have always been able to work the numbers, but my free-spirited side tends to splurge on crap that has nothing to do with my goals! #notanymore

Thank you for being honest re: self confidence issues and purchases. From age 30-34 I made a lot of poor choices because of them, too. I’m now 43...and I’m still paying for poor choices that my younger self made. I no longer have all the junk that I purchased then, nor would I even want them today... Expensive lesson learned.

How is your debt free journey coming? Last week I was able to save over $2000 in overall interest for my 1 year journey and now my avalanche interest went from $3000+ to $900+ for my 1 year journey. Good luck on your journey.

I am getting my Masters of Education in School Counseling now and later I will go back to get my degree to become a clinical psychologist. I will have over $100k in loans. I am going to take off two years in between to pay off three loans. In total, I should be done paying off all student debt in about 5 years.

Nicole Kerswell the way I do it on my channel for my bu weekly debt journey update is that I update that vertex42 calculator along with my budget at the start of each month. So if you have 0% promotion for 12 months then for 12 months you would show that it’s 0. So as it pertains to which debt you would want to tackle during that time it would be a personal strategic choice. I try to touch on little things like this during my own UA-cam debt free 2020 journey. If you ever want to talk more feel free to connect on IG @denniswoodbine. I try to answer everyone and give my thoughts on how you could approach certain debt situations and your situation actually help to create content for others who may be in a similar situation. Com join me on my debt free journey.

Having a good credit utilization is important if you want to build and maintain a good credit score. As your credit utilization increases, your credit score can go down. A high credit utilization indicates that you're probably spending a lot of your monthly income on debt payment which puts you at a higher risk of defaulting on your payments.
The way people get perfect scores is by practicing good credit habits consistently and for a long time.
According to FICO, those who achieve credit score perfection pay on time, use credit lightly, have a long credit history and rarely open a new account.
I give a proper break down of how to improve your credit score and pay off debts in weeks on my Quora page : Timothy Mendis

madison blanding I talk about the vertex42 calculator and how I filled it out for my 82,000 debt free journey in my second video. But to answer your question, the balance is overall balance you have remaining on a card, car loan, student loan etc. so as it pertains to the student loans use the balance owed not the principal balance. So each month it will need to be updated, at least that’s how I do mine. Are you on a debt free journey also?

**UPDATE** Since this comment, we have paid off an ADDITIONAL $11k of debt and are now on track to being COMPLETELY debt free by April 2023.
    💙💜💙
When I first used this tool and saw exactly what we were paying in interest and how long it would take with the minimum payments to pay it off, I made the decision to consolidate our debt. That decision shaved off 4.5 years and $11k off our debt!
Fast forward to today. I have a snowball amount added in all of our monthly payments (example- $325, instead of $313.42). Plus, we still make lump sum payments towards specific debt payoff and savings goals.

    • @zvezdapadalica15

Desiree Stocking I know I am not BudgetMom but unless they have shut off your credit card (you are in collections), you shouldn’t get rid of your credit card. The fact that you paid it off means your score gets better. Cancelling your own credit card after you’ve paid it off (and it is still in good standing) puts a dent in your score. I found that my score improves after about two months and increase from there the more payments I make and the lower my overall debt is. I had two credit cards in collections and I paid them off. My score got better the first month (just a few points) and my score has gotten better and better. I still have debt but I make regular payments.

Thank you for making me face this head to head. I just got into budgeting, got my book and I've been working on my emergency savings and have already paid off a loan and 3 Credit cards. Still got lots more to go 😫😫😫 i didn't realise how much I was paying in interest on all my cards, this really put me face to face with them. I'm even more geared up to finish paying them off as fast as possible. These credit card companies are making a ridiculous amount of money in interest charges alone !

    • @frankybanky1

Norma Jean use it as your motivation to pay them off fasttttt. I had one card that was collecting $180 monthly in interest alone!! After my 12 months interest free promo was up I was hit with over $3000 in interest last year which was added to my principle, this meant I was now paying interest on the interest! The card had a $8000 balance , I had a big wake up call in mid May when I found Dave Ramsey , the budget mom and other financial gurus on UA-cam . I'l managed to pay that card off this month! I'm not rich or anything close. Just worked extra hard and used any extra funds I could . Still got a long way to go on my other debts but paying that card off gave me the biggest relieve!

I've been following you for months and bought your book. I've done a lot of work to get myself ready for my debt payoff journey but I'm so discouraged lately. I swear I get an unexpected bill for some random thing at least once a month. And it always ends up costing me $1k or more. I bought my first house last year and it was an unexpected move. These bills are often but not always related to the move in some way. I don't know how to even start saving when I'm always trying to cover these big unexpected bills that come up way too regularly. I have FOUR jobs (one full time and 3 part time) and I'm a single mom of two with hardly any help. It's just so discouraging 🥺. I want so bad to get ahead. Seems the more I take on to do that, the more the universe throws at me. I can't even put away $100 for savings or emergency. "You either have an income problem or a spending problem". I don't have an income problem and it's not a spending issue. I've already cut everything that can be cut since starting my journey. Do you have any advice on how to start saving when this keeps happening?

I love the site 'whatsthecost dot com' and you can change it from British pounds to dollars and do it by interest or balance!

I don’t have a Facebook to ask you this, so hopefully you see this or someone can answer.. how would it work for certain credit cards that have zero interest for a certain amount of time? Is there a way to write that in there to calculate? Thank you! Loved this video it’s such a great tool to start our debt free journey!

Steve H. Is definitely is awesome. I’m actually using it on my debt free journey right now. Without it I would not have seen how much in interest I saved when I moved my credit cards to one promotion card with 0% for 12 months. When I saw the savings I felt so happy. It works and it gives you that feeling that you can accomplish it. Are you on a debt free journey also?

What happens when the minimum payment changes? How and where do you track that?
