- Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi from the Star Wars Celebration LIVE! Stage 2023. Moderator Ming-Na Wen discusses 40 years of Return of the Jedi with Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, Ian McDiarmid, Doug Chiang, Rob Bredow, and Neal Scanlan.
Return of the Jedi will always be my favorite Star Wars movie. I had it on VHS and It was the only Star Wars movie I had growing up so I just watched it over and over. It left a huge impact on my life, I basically based all my morals and values off of Luke Skywalker, so this movie will always have a very important place in my heart
It also a huge impact on your UA-cam username
@@knownpleasures that’s true, although Luke Starkiller was actually the placeholder name used in A New Hope until George changed it last second, so really it has more to do with that movie, but the reason I’m even this interested in Luke is because of Return of the Jedi, so you’re technically not wrong
No mark Hamill?
@@mattruth8763 did you mean to reply that to my comment or was that just a comment for the video?
@@lukestarkiller1470 comment for the video
"I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
I was privileged to meet Anthony Daniels at the Sydney premier of Jedi when i was 15 years old. He signed a paperback book of RTOJ, "To Steve, with force - Anthony Daniels" in gold pen sadly that book vanished along with my ex wifes departure. But i still have the memory of shaking hands with and talking face to face with C3PO. A surreal experience that i will always treasure.
Ian McDiarmid is a gem. Very entertaining 😊🎉
He is a first and foremost a classically trained Scottish actor which is also his first passion. He is far larger than just Star Wars as far as his contribution to British theatre.
I still remember the first time I saw the scene where Vader threatened to turn Leia and Luke went nuts. Still give me goosebumps like no other scene in film. And the music that played during the scene... woh.
Please post the other panels that weren't livestreamed, even if they're edited down to remove exclusive footage! It's been long enough since the convention, and we just want to Celebrate Star Wars with everyone else!
I love return of the Jedi one of best star wars
Ming-Na Wen is so gorgeous. I adore her.
Ming Na... 🔥😍🔥
Making nearly 60 years old the new 30! And, still, just as athletic as ever!
She's amazing. 👍
Now all you got to do is release the panels with all the cool trailers like skeleton crew, acolyte, andor season 2, and the movie panel
@Derpy Kitty This full panel was released on May 25th 2023 which is the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi so I am not sure the other panels will be release in full like this.
They’re not releasing the studio showcase.
May the force be with you!
It was the greatest sci-fi blockbuster movie of 1983 from 20th Century-Fox and Lucasfilm Ltd.
all hail king George, and each of these living legends.
I was almost two months old when RotJ came out, my father introduced me to Star Wars, and I'm always grateful for him that he did.
Ian still owns the show.
Got all his marbles, self-awareness and humour.
Top lad.
Return of the Jedi is a masterpiece
Jesus Christ poor Billy Dee Williams
When 86 years are you look as good you will not
what Ryan Mulcahey said
Billie D is the shizzle! No one can hold a candle to him!
@@ryanmulcahey9810 He looks good but not sure about his mental faculties.
He is like that in Person. He don't like public speaking. That was in 1999.
Ming Na... 🔥😍🔥

I thought she was 30 😂😮
@@Krisvasileva-w7zI assumed she was 40
May the force be with you. Proud to be a Star Wars fan
I expected bigger cheers for all the guys from the OT
I Am A Jedi! Like My Father Before Me! Happy 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi!
Billy D just came to get paid.
Yea...he's usually upbeat about these things though.
I love MING NA!
Ming-Na Wen is such a funny lady ! And better looking than women half her age. She's perfect !
Hope Billy is okay. He seems very disorientated and unwell.
No different than Joe Biden.
@@winksm I am removing my comment. I am not sure why people have to make everything into a divisive insult on someone else

Trump has "a strong influence on the weakminded" thus why his supporters think 4th grade schoolyard insults toward those don't like or disagree with is the right way to act.

Ming Na is 🔥.
One of my favourite films of all time
I love Ming-Na wen:))
That is one incredible woman.❤
What's a Return of the Jedi panel without the Return of the Jedi????
Literally 😂
Harrison doesn't care, Carrie is gone, Mark doesn't care, james earl Jones is 90
Thanks for this! 🌌 #StarWars #StarWarsCelebration #ReturnOfTheJedi #40YearsOfReturnOfTheJedi
Thanks Aunt Vesuvi!
You're very welcome, Anakin. 🫂
If it showing again, iam going to watch it again
Ming Na Wen was a freshman in College in 1983?! Wow she looks like she's just in her 40s. She's actually 59.
Yes she is absolutely beautiful!
@@Spec279 Yeah, even her body is still banging.
Nice panel but what was going on with Billy Dee? Did someone upset him backstage before the panel? Doesn't take The Force to sense all the negative energy that was being put out.
She was a great host!
This is the movie that made me a fan and later made me want to be a writer and now a writer, I am 😊
I wonder if Billy Dee Williams is ill. Unlike Harrison Ford that sometimes exhibits an "I'm not a Star Wars fan" vibe, Mr Williams seems ill to me
Star Wars is the very best
Return of the Jedi is on the back end of my favorite Star Wars movies typically but I saw it in theaters again this year and it was just just fantastic.
I’m
Angry I didn’t know they were doing a run in theaters missed it found out the day it finished
I was there. Felt sorry for Billy Dee Williams.
Why’s that
@@switchfootfan598 He didn't seen to happy to be there for whatever reason. Felt sorry for Ming cause she had to deal with those awkward answers from him.
@@CueDaNinja it’s old age
I've noticed that they tried to cut him off while billy was still talking about his new book.
@@switchfootfan598 Clearly had trouble hearing what was being said and Ming Na Wen did her best but didn’t seem to understand he couldn’t hear.
Thank you all love all of you 40 years working on 42 year of 2025
It's unfortunate that Carrie Fisher is no longer with us to celebrate this milestone
Rest in Peace, Princess
Yes they don't even remember her passing a way here and it's very insensitive and no respect to our ever loving Princess Leia. 😭
i love this !!!!!!!!!
Ming-Na Wen is a 59 year old woman. Let that sink in
Asian don't crack!
Jedi ruled and so did the ewoks- not a weak entry at all- also so many cool puppets ❤
I LOVE ALL 3 OF THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS !
Return of the Jedi was the first Star Wars movie I saw in the theater. To this day, is still my favorite. Although Empire is the best of the OT. You never forget your first. Are we talking about movies?
The battle by Sarlaac, the speeder bike chase, the battle for Endor, the bit when Luke loses his mind, so many classic scenes. Jedi is the best entry without a shadow of a doubt
Man I wish mark hamill Harrison ford and Jemas earl Jones would be there, I know mark and jemas are retired from playing villains but still it couldn't hurt to visit the convention. But it's their decision
It's James.
@@Carabas72 I’m bad but nevertheless
These events are annually. And I don't know. The star wars family of actors has grown a lot since the original movies. So Disney has a bigger roster of cast members to invite to these events. And since they do this twice a year, 1 in the Americas and 1 in Europe. Its easier to switch up invitations based on avaliability.
@@anthonygordon9483 Can't wait 'til they push Daisy Ridley on us when her new movie's coming out. 🙄
He's 90!!!
Happy fortieth anniversary to Episode VI! 🤩
May the force be with you all!
Even though it’s not stated officially… looking at Billy D I’m worried about his aging mental health. His mannerisms and speech is similar to older people with dementia. I’ve had experience dealing with people with dementia and I can tell he is definitely experiencing it in some form. Felt sorry for him here, knowing how funny and light he used to be.
It's surprising that no one prepared Ming-Na Wen for the fact that he might be difficult to talk to. She could've asked him easier questions. Was everyone taken by surprise by his state of mind?
I was thinking this too. Poor man
'take your time' was such an underrated statement by that guy
“ How Could They Be Jamming Us, If They Don’t Know We Are…………It’s A Trap “👌
My friend and I walked to the theater every day for a week after school to see Return of the Jedi.
Still here, still loving it all, still strong with the force! :)
Love all 3 Star Wars movie, stood in a 2 hour line in New York, just to see A New Hope
I met everyone except Warwick.
ROTJ was huge! I was twelve years old, and this was what we thought would be the last Star Wars film. After growing up with the first two films, the anticipation for the third film in this trilogy was off the charts.
My family and I happened to be in Chapel Hill, NC when Jedi first came out. I remember several shows were sold out and we had to get tickets for a showing late in the day! That’s the only time in my life that’s ever happened. I also remember several scenes towards the end where people were literally standing in the theater and cheering.
Amazing. A major cultural event. The only other film I can compare it with is the 89 Batman.
What's going on with BDW? Does he have dementia?
Who let lando on stage in that condition?
Today is the ACTUAL 40th Anniversary date!
Luke was like Nah.
LUKE SKYWALKER FOREVER!!!!

Hello there, Agent May!
Release the theatrical cuts
OMG Ming Na Wen Ive been in love with you since the 90s Hi my lady :*) Aaaawwww :D
Ming-Na Wen doesn’t look a day over 40 it’s nuts
LOL, I know, when she said she graduated from college when ROTJ came out, I was like, wait, what, is this an old video?
She looks amazing and her physicality in the characters she has played in the last decade is amazing too.
Soooo... Where's Mark Hamill?
He talked in the beginning In a video he recorded
@@Mari-km2tm That's what I'm saying
....I know the force is all inside of us....
The sad thing about these Celebration videos is half the commenters (thus viewers) are the same people that showed up in person.
28:10 “They don’t need any introduction”
Proceeds to introduce him
it was Pity Carrie Wasn't There
Where's Mark Hamill, what happened, was he left out, usually he's the front center at all SW convention...
Why does Kathleen Kennedy still have a job??
Gender armor.
I love this movie and Emperor in it ❤
Well, looks like we won’t be seeing Billy Dee on stage anymore.
I don't see how he's going to finish that book with the state he's in. I wouldn't count on him to finish reading a book let alone writing one.
I'd like to see Forrest Gump as a Jedi.
Jedi 🎉❤❤❤
I’m like you were a freshman in college when Rotj came out? No way you’re 60. I had to look it up. Can’t believe you’re 59. That’s crazy
Doug Chang is a walking W!!
I saw ROTJ in the theater at age 6 and it was my introduction to Star Wars! Sadly, it spoiled the first two movies for me completely! I was an instant fan though, and can never forget the piles of merchandise in all the stores and in every kid's house back then! I got the Kenner Ewok Village for Christmas, woo-hoo!
He's done you there Warwick.
It was painful to watch Billy dee Williams answering
Yessss
Where can we watch the action figure previs they did for the speeder chase? It deserves to be added to the social media archives. 😉
I've seen that before on a documentary. I think it might have been "From Star Wars to Jedi" I have it on VHS somewhere
Billy Dee on a different planet...
"Are you still on Tatooine, Billy?"
Hey congratulations 40th
ROTJ was the first movie I ever saw in a movie theater.
Gooooood... Your hate has made you powerful now fulfill your destiny and take your father's place at my side.
Definitely the best Star Wars movie 🙏
definitely not even close
@@mws755 opinions 🤷
It was nice to have the actors unite for this panel. But this Panel does not do the movie justice.
It would have been so much better if Mark Hamil was there along with James Earl Jones and Frank Oz. And Why not have George Lucas there as well with a tribute to Richard Marquand to boot?
Gotta love how they mention "the director" and never even say his name.
Moderator Melinda/Moderator Mulan!
If she could just get off her phone and present, I would be able to watch this
Ming is adorable
Also 29:30 Warwick Davis, Ian McDiarmuid and the guy who played Lando come on
The guy who played lando? Lol
If you weren't going to take the time to look up his name before commenting, she literally said his name in the video too......
@@lovescarguitar Couldn't think of his name haha. Have it fast forwarding unless something good happens
@@lovescarguitar no u
Ngl I got worried seeing BDW like that. I hope he’s okay.
Let’s goooo
No George Lucas? No Mark Hamil?
They do this almost every year annually since disney bought lucasfilm, they are always rotating the panel. Who knows Mark Hamill may have other projects he is working on.
When was the last time Lucas ever went to Celebration? Lol
@@fourtysevennn Right! On top of the fact that Star Wars Celebration started when Disney bought the company. George was there to promote it and then he was out the door lol. And we got to remember the star wars acting cast family has grown tremendously since the originals and even the prequels. So Disney has a larger cast to invite every year and they probably wont always invite the originals.
Star wars fans should be more like Fennec Actress and less like Tatooine (you know full of sand and salt)
This happened over a month ago ?
yup
Clearly Billy didnt want to be there
