    Have to have rap genius up to dissect the parts you don’t understand. You’ll appreciate the music so much more.

    Frank Lucas is who American Gangster was about. Dehaven was Jay’s boy, but he started talking on UA-cam and Jay Z doesn’t like people speaking publically on his name

    Frank Lucas is the drug kingpin that Denzel Washington played in American Gangster.... He's a well-known heroin dealer from 1970 s Harlem who eventually ended up cooperating to get his time cut

    You won't find lyric videos because Jay was on UA-cam ass for a long time for not paying the artists properly.
    "I feel like UA-cam is the biggest culprit/ they only pay you a 10th of what you're supposed to get" - Jay-Z B sides concert freestyle

      That B Sides concert is legendary. And the full video of the concert is on UA-cam.

      @@ArtisanWindchimes I love that concert. It was for all the real Hov fans. A bunch of the deep cuts that he normally wouldn't perform. Especially at that point in his career. I go back to it all the time

    You need use Rap Genius for lyric breakdown.
    7:08 Frank Lucas is the character Denzel plays in American Gangster. This whole album is inspired by the movie. Incredible album, very conceptual and very soul in terms of production.

      Nah... Frank Lucas is a real person. He was a drug lord that ended up snitching and going into protective custody.

      Frank Lucas was a drug dealer(drug lord)out of Harlem, New York. Had damn near hus whole family working for him. He was in and out of prison, his last release was in 1991(if not mistaken) he got in trouble again, but because he was so old,they placed him on probation. He passed away in 2018-2019, can't remember.

    i love this track ,live instruments + lyrically a mix between the movie and jay personal life expericence . He kept it simple and straight to the point . American Gangster was perfectly done for that Denzel Movie .
    jay´s team always made sure all videos illegally uploaded were deleted off youtube ,so people had to go to tidal . For the longest people couldnt do reaction without being flagged. I understand what he tried to do but it hurt him with the younger generation who only consume on youtube

    Another funfact
    Frank Lucas was mentored by a Harlem gangster named Bumpy Johnson. A series was made exploring Bumpys reign in Harlem before Frank took over. The series is called The Godfather Of Harlem as Forest Whittaker as the lead Bumpy and it just wrapped up its 3rd season. Soundtrack is orchestrated by Swizz Beats.

    • @Rangerfan11
      @Rangerfan11 7 місяців тому

      Godfather of Harlem is basically all fiction. Bumpy was a real one. That show is straight garbage and made up! 💯facts!
