You know what is crazy? When I first heard Rydeen I visualized a train going through a snow covered japan. And then I discovered that it was used in a train game
This is a really good cover considering the technology of the time. Imagine hearing this come out of an arcade game in late 1982. You'd be stunned. Apparently this game will be included in the Sega Genesis Mini 2, but this track was renamed "Ryzeen" and slightly rewritten.
Infact it harks back to an existing "Cover" by a group of game composers who did joke takes on pretty much all of YMO's music named Oriental Magnetic Yellow- and their version of Rydeen named Ryzeen was used for the M2 port!
Back in those days using copyrighted music for games was a non-issue. Does anybody know if Sega ever asked YellowMagicOrchestra if they could use their tune "Rydeen" for their game or is this just considered an "honor" for people in Japan? Were they even aware of it? I recall playing a port of this game on the C64 computer called "Loco" . Perhaps it was even a knock-off, I'm not sure. That game used Equinox 5 by Jarre as the BGM.
Japan is very serious about copyright stuff, both in terms of law and honor, so I highly doubt that they did this without the consent of YMO, but I have no way to confirm. Just ask Kenji Yamamoto
@@808_rafa Are they, though? Every single Japanese television show I've seen uses themes from English-speaking shows and movies with reckless abandon. Paying for all of those rights would exhaust almost anyone's funds. I think maybe it's more accurate to say that they're tougher on "stealing" products of their own nation.
Lemmings had Computer Weekend, Doom had lots of heavy metal such that original artists were pretty happy. Streets of Rage is techno from that time, etc. But you’re right that Japanese games with Japanese musician music might be a bit rarer. Sega was so yakuza aligned that maybe it wasn’t safe to object.
@@808_rafa The 80s were a bit more free-wheeling copyright-wise in Japan, doubly so for arcade games, where the implications of copyright law were only really being tested for the first time.. bootleg boards were common and basically tolerated up until a court case brought by Namco in 84. And hell Sega itself was playing fast and loose well into the Mega Drive era, with stuff like Batman and Spiderman in Shinobi. So I wouldn't be surprised really if they didn't have permission to use the song back then (but eventually sought it for the anniversary album of course)
I found it on youtube actually, lol. The video was restricted to desktop viewing only, so I reuploaded an unrestricted copy here. The game itself is very rare (I only think about 30 PCB's are known to exist)
Rest in peace, Yukihiro Takahashi. Without him and the others in YMO making the song in the first place we wouldn't have gotten this great rendition.
God ymo is a blessing.

It's probably the galloping percussion
RIP Yukihiro Takahashi😢

I was there in the arcade. 1982. Blown away by this music.
The soundtrack for Super Locomotive on the Megadrive Mini is awful
@@paulhaigh3952 They had to make a Jimmy Hart version of the song for copyright reasons. It's not great, but not as awful as I feared it would be.

This track appeared on the recent GO SEGA 60th Anniversary Album with full credit to Yukihiro Takahashi and YMO, so I assume it was properly licensed.

totally randomly spawned into my timeline, but thank god, what a banger!
スーパーロコモーティブってSG-1000に移植される予定があったって噂本当なのか? ソースがどこにも見当たらんのだが。
SEGA, Ocean Software, and ZUN: It's free real estate!
Zun used rydeen?
@@ridley2333 Not *exactly*, but close enough that you could make a federal case out of it: ua-cam.com/video/Wlp7WLGJZ9E/v-deo.html
Which Ocean Software game used this?

The game has an interesting concept. You control a locomotive as it speeds across the valley, getting attacked by planes
YMO Forever
Rip sakamoto...
Nice
YMO ❤
Ymo
when you're to young to spell raiden correctly
