Nothing is more annoying than a water level in a video game. Gloomy Galleon, however, is an exception. The golden bananas with a time limit were pretty awful, though.
i freaking love that lighthouse in that level, flying it up with diddys jetpack and just watch k.rool´s old ship swimming around it... enjoyed the music so much.. :)
People don’t realize this level song was actually created for Captain Blackeye from Project Dream: Land of Giants. This was going to be his theme song. The project somehow eventually became the game we know now as Banjo-Kazooie and capt. Blackeye only shows as a photo cameo in the first game and in person drunk in the second game.
I care, I'm sure a lot of people care for this game. You're right in that the old Rare is sadly dead and gone, but that doesn't mean this couldn't be remade by another studio. Nintendo's already used other developers to remake games - i.e. Ocarina of Time 3D
I loved the DKC2 references here. The remains of Gangplank Galleon, Kaptain K Rool portraits. I loved this level. The starfish enemies always had me on edge though.
After fighting Mad Jack, the sudden and unjustified spike in difficulty in this Donkey Kong game, the first thing that follows is a freaking water level. You'd think this would piss people off, but not me. I freaking love this level. The design and concept is just so captivating to me that it cancels out any confusion and difficulty created in this level. Gloomy Galleon my butt; this is pretty freaking happy for me.
@@jaxixteenThis is not an obligation but usually, yeah, the player is meant to start with Frantic Factory (lower amount of golden bananas needed to enter the level and unlocking the fifth Kong there)
Has anyone noticed that this song has elements of Blackeye's Theme from the cancelled game Dream? It really makes you feel like the spirit of Dream lives on in Rare's other games.
Precisely. The DKC trilogy was just one of those series where every single element of the game, from the core gameplay right down to the level names was just spot on. Its a shame Rareware left Nintendo and became the company they are today, as I don't think any other developer will ever be able to truly capture that same level of creativity and innovation that DKC did. They are and forever will be my favourite games. DKCR not included.
I think the most scary moment i had with this game was when i played alone. I accidenaly opened the ghost door (hate those things) and i got so scared i pulled the controller towards me so it went out of the socket in the N64. I couldnt find the remote so i had to walk to the N64 and put the controller into the socket again. Oh man i still get chills when i think of it.
I think this is actually my favourite level. I liked the pirate theme, the music and it was challenging, but not too frustrating. I managed to do the robot fish after the 2nd try.
This level was so eerie, especially the whole light house area... I love the music though this level and fungi forest has always had a nostalgic feel to me.
@JordinaryDude Agreed. The music was just what mesmerized me most about DK64. Specifically about the graphics, I loved the landscapes. When a game evokes a sense of adventure in you, that is truly beautiful. And this game has music that was equally beautiful to accompany it. That's why it was such a success and why not only have people uploaded the entire soundtrack to UA-cam, but people comment on them everyday posting praise like this.
Most of the Rare crew who worked on this masterpiece don't work at Rare anymore, so there is no point for Nintendo to buy them back since they are pretty much a different company now, just under the same name
The only reason I disagree is that certain IP's of theirs are being completely wasted. Either dormant for a long time with nothing or rebooted with completely different gameplay. I think Banjo Kazooie, Conker, etc could be easily salvageable in the right hands.
There's a new studio called "Playtonic Games" pretty much comprised of all the original Rare developers. They're making a spiritual sequel to the Banjo Kazooie franchise called "Project Ukulele", with the original Rare composers returning as well including Grant Kirkhope. They're also very eager to get the game on the Wii U and to work with Nintendo once more. Check them out!
man even to this day i am still creeped out about that giant metal fish thats eats diddy not when you get eaten but right when you entered the water and he was down there waiting and comes out of no where. *chills*
"The most notable difference of PAL is that it runs at 50Hz, making it 1.2 times slower than NTSC. But the timers and countdowns in the game are still as fast as in NTSC, which is why e.g. the mechanical fish GB is almost impossible to get and shutting down the Blast-o-Matic requires more blueprints." From the DK speedrunning website. :/ It sucks because I also have the PAL version.
8 years too late, but the mechanical fish is even worse if you do it with the sniper scope upgrade. It lags the hell out of everything EXCEPT the timer because the sniper scope renders a further distance.
@@milopuppypaws3108 Yeah I remember reading about that too. I don't mind the 8 year late comment because I still love this game and random trivia about it lol
this is so nice is compared those good games like zelda and dk 64 to recent games, there is nothing like this even if the graphics are nostalgic it has an own charme =) reminds me of my childhood, i love this games
4:14 Sunken ship parts were pretty creepy, i was always scared of the giant starfish and the skeletons on the wall as a kid, even today they still kinda creep me out. Also lanky kong's and how it starts out with the flashing red lights
My cousins (who I played this with as a kid) told me that if you stay in the water too long in this game, a shark will come and eat you. Because of that, this level scared the crap out of me and my cousins had to beat it for me. Ah, the nostalgia. I actually just recently started replaying this game today. Brings back so many memories. Great game. The soundtrack is fantastic as well. Grant Kirkhope is an excellent composer.
Rare had the best sountracks in gaming back then: The Donkey Kon Country series, Banjo-Kazooie 1 and 2, Jet Force Gemini and this game. All of those game tones stuck in my head like forever. Unfortunately when Rare was whit Nintendo no more they like lost all of his magic, what a shame.
It was also dark visually in some levels, which helped further drive home that you had to explore some murky areas, which was a nice touch IMO. A few levels were dark enough that I actually waited until nightfall to play them and shut the lights off just so I could see everything on the TV and really appreciate the game's visuals.
1:56 reminds me of banjo tooie SO freaking much... actually the whole freaking game reminds me of Banjo Kazooie... god I love rare... they never seem to live down expectations...

I agree with you completely. DKCR is a great game but the it didn't capture the spirit of the original three. To this day, I consider the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy the best side-scrolling video games, even better than Super Mario Bros. 3. The creativity of the levels, the great atmosphere's, exceptional music, etc. cannot be matched in my opinion
*Continued* It's just this level is just so overwhelming with how massive it is. Though My favorite stage is Fungi Forest, but I've forgotten how big that place is, but if I can recall it isn't as diffcult seeing as you're not searching for stuff at different massive different waterlevels and it's on dry land for the most part, and another reason I prefer Fungi Forest is because it has a relation to a Banjo-Kazooie level that was left out: Fungus Forest I find that fact to be pretty cool.
Jesus! This Level was fucking creepy because I hate deep water...there can be anything in this water... who knows! The sunken ships... all dark and gloomy...AND WTF!? Oh yeah and when you enter the treasure chest as little Tiny and you face those giant shells with demonic faces D: It was so creepy when I was little and just this music... gives me chills! I believe this is a form of Agoraphobia. While the term is typically used to refer to people's fear of being outside in social settings, the actual definition of the term is a fear of open spaces. Being deep underwater is a large open space in which anything can come from any direction and you're able to go in any direction. I feel the same way you do. It's overwhelming and terrifying. I get the same feeling in games in which you fly in space but there's not much in front of you to use as a reference point for distance.
This song starts off really freaky, but after a while it gets really calm and relaxing! I mean still chilling slightly. At about 3:19 or so. AWESOME game, seriously amazing, thanks for uploading this! *shivers*

This is such an underrated game, needs an HD remake on Wii U!
The thing is that Nintendo is a bit iffy on remaking games that were made by Rare since they're not sure how they'll react. But I agree with you.
Yeah, that sucks. If you remember though they remade the DKC trilogy for GBA after Rare was sold to Microsoft, so who knows!
MLDKF Who cares to be honest. Rare is dead and has been since they were bought and made the travesty known as nuts and bolts.
