🤯 awesome simplistic pattern, love the holographic tinsel for body & rib, never seen the use of a bobbin holder for tinsel, very cool idea, tight lines 🤙

Wow. Several good lessons here. I’ve seen Doak’s version of this fly & your substitution of the holographic gold tinsel makes the body really pop much more than the embossed tinsel. The oval tinsel on their version is more obvious & is more what you notice, rather than the body. Here, it’s the whole body. I have holographic silver, but I clearly need to get some gold.
Also interesting is your use of Uni-Flex to create a smooth underbody & your use of a bobbin holder for wrapping the tinsel. (Large barrel bobbin holder?) I usually make a smooth thread base but the Uni is faster & the underbody looks even smoother. I do use a bobbin holder for wire & floss but never thought of using it for tinsel.
    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words Bob always appreciate it. The bobbin is from Shor Fishing but is discontinued now

Yes certainly - but these are two different animals. Bought in a fly shop showroom, those holo's will only appear as lead-grey or diaper-yellow under the best salmon skies. Embossed is more forgiving and doesn't yield to whim.

While we do hook them from time to time incidentally, the season doesn’t start until June first

I can't imagine why, if you're hell-bent-for-leather on using ostrich herls for a butt, why oh why would you not wrap the turns over super glue. The original use of the ostrich was there just to hide a multitude of sins, what with big fat round unwaxed thread. But it's not too late to reclaim the future. Bad habits for the sake of a wobbly past are just fuzzy logic.
