Where you used sand paper for final finishing I usually use valve lapping compound on a sheet of glass to get a nice uniform surface that still has a bit of tooth to it without removing too much additional material.
yeah, i have heard of that method too. I actually needed to remove more material though because the milling bit was dull, so i did most of the sanding with 80 grit and finished with 220.
One thing I would recommend when using sandpaper is to do a figure 8 pattern rather than circles, it will give a better sealing surface as it will have a cross hatch pattern (it won't be noticeable once final sanding is done but it is there).
You don’t want to use a shell/face mill for work like this. Fly cutting is the correct method, as shown, but it’s better with a sharp HSS tool for aluminum than what he used, which was probably a brazed or cemented C6 carbide tool.
On the small OHV engines the most I’ve seen is 0.100” but here’s the thing, you have to shorten your pushrod length, and make sure you don’t have piston to valve contact. So there are multiple things to think about and measure before you do that. Then compression ratio may be high enough where you may need to think about detonation and switching up fuels.
excited to follow this build! plan on using similar engine for own project. great vid!
I need to get a shell mill so you don't have to move like Neo from the Matrix to sand it afterwards. Seriously though, glad I could help!
I believe that most Honda clone engines are 8.0 to 8.5 to 1 compression ratio from the factory. 10.25 will increase torque and horsepower noticeably!

You're so fly
Wouldn't a shell mill cutter be a little more smooth and accurate?
+cmonster6 yeah, but this was all we had at the time. The bit was pretty dull as you can tell
Bit more compression is always a good thing. 👍
yeah, it has more pep now.
KartFab Good stuff mate. Enjoying your videos. Great work 👍
is this that head you ported a few mounths ago?
Yep
good
hey good
how many cc's in the head chamber now?
3:08
.075"...!? how is there not interference after that. that's like half the combustion chamber.
how do you know how much you can remove, i want to do this with 2 tecumseh 5hp engines

@@KartFab so I can shave a flathead as long as valves/piston don't touch the head, and I don't have detonation, right?
It might be a bad idea to shave a lot from a Flathead as the more you shave, the less flow you have between valves and cylinder bore.
You men you don't use a belt sander like Ike at Cars and Camera does, LOL....
Haha! You know, a belt sander does a pretty good job though.
KartFab you should try it
Can I use an Angle grinder insted?
Do you still make money if i turn ad blocker on?
Yes. You will get massive gains and beat everyone. Plus, you will quintuple fuel efficiency.
Yes. I have an actual job, so technically I still make money.
Ah okay, wasnt sure if i should turn it off... So i see more vids...
Yea!!!
Better check for valve an piston clearance
+Michael McFarland 220 thousandths. That’s for the next video
hlo
Not first maybe
