  • We had to get to this one eventually. This was my BIG song in the early days - the one I liked to close sets with, complete with raging Jack Bomb guitar solos aplenty I'm also pretty sure it drove everyone else nuts.

It is, of course, the infamous 'Winter Coat & Whisky' from 2001's The Adult Tree EP - a tres peculiar tale of adultery and skiing, rife with self-loathing and suffused, at the time, with the fact that I was not half as exciting as I liked to imagine I was destined to be. Shortly afterwards, I did briefly become vaguely exciting and, truth be told, it was hell. Also, there was very little skiing involved, although limbs were occasionally at risk.
I changed two words in this version. One was a usage of the word 'fat' with which I am no longer comfortable, even in the mouth of its solipsistic central character and... well, for the three or so years I sang it every night, I desperately attempted to cram the word 'bottle' into a single syllable space. And failed.
A singular 'shot' never occurred to me at the time, which considering how drunk I was, is not surprising.
