They had such a perfect opportunity to build a surface level connection when they buried 93 in the big dig. But now that specific opportunity is gone forever.
@@BostonByRails i keep on the look for them but ive only ever seen the one. I have more luck with the daily Amtrak which ive caught like 3 times. Usually I hear something passing and rush to the window lmao
@@gNatflaps cool! The Amtrak passes Lansdowne station at 1pm every sunday, wed, and fri. The Readville switcher (equipment move) passes daylight on sundays anywhere from 1-6ish typically, then it returns. If u every see a strange looking train feel free to lmk or ask me what it is!
Cool! I wish I was there to see the ballast extra. My sister goes to college at BU now and we frequently visit her every now and then. The hotel I stayed in wasn’t too far away from the bridge. Unfortunately, I was only there from October 9-12, so I left 11 days early before the train came.
Ah. If your ever there, let me know! Cus i could infrom you if a train is coming, your best chance at trains there is sunday.(on the grand junction, worcester line has trains 24/7)
@@BostonByRails Hi there, it’s me again. I’m back to tell you that I’m heading back to Boston this Saturday! I hope to be there by the early afternoon at around maybe 1:00. Are there any trains I can catch that day?
Hmmmm, saturday is usually a dead day on the grand junction (the line with the bridge). I wouldnt have much knowladge for if a train runs Saturday. However, one of the trains that usually runs every sunday ran last saturday because so many engineers are out with covid. The schedule seems randomized at the moment, but i reccomend you see some trains on the nearby worcester line at Lansdowne if you want guaranteed train action. I will try my best to let you know if something runs saturday!
Extra means an out of service train, typically equitment moves. The portland extra is an equitment move from portland to boston which is what provides the downeaster with its cars and locomotives
I. LOVE. THE. GRAND. JUNCTION. RAILROAD. I'm so happy that someone caught trains on the branch, I couldn't :(
Thanks! Seeing trains there is purely based on luck.
@@BostonByRails Im gonna go on Saturday to try to catch something on it, any tips?
@@BostonByRails Im going at MIT
@@BostonByRails would you suggest I go sunday?
Cambridge Regional Railway Production dont mind
Omg that wave at 12:18, its so wholesome for some reason
I agree! Super nice guy, he always waves super enthusiastically!
I have a feeling they are doing this to see if this will finally open the door to the North South link that has been discussed for decades.
Yes! All of these trains are equitment moves but it does create for some cool foreshadowing (finggners crossed)

i live where I can see the worcester line from my house and ive only ever seen that caboose once, wasnt quite sure what it was till now, great video!
Thank you! Where about on the worcester line? Like in boston or out of boston in CSX territory?
@@BostonByRails in boston! dont want to give away too much more in a youtube comment section though lmao.
@@gNatflaps i totally understand lol. Thats cool tho, u must see the equitment moves then

Amazing footage! I have yet to see a train cross the BU bridge.
Thanks! None of the trains that cross it are in service so their schedules are wonky
i have never seen a lite mbta f40 so thanks for showing me this cursed footage

Wait a damn minute where did the CTC 1 come from
Hey any chance u railfanned at Wellesley Square today? I saw a group of people at the over bridge while railfanning there. Wondering if that’s u.
Nope i havent been to wellesley since 2018 lol
@@BostonByRails oh wow lol
Portland extra numbers: 98 and the reversed one is: 89
I live close to amtrak and mbta commuter rail I live close to revere
WHALE the railfan - munipals subways and more nice
when the light f40 ran, did that go all the way to Everett or did it go to BET or ballast left on the GJR?
Ballasts were on the runaround, right where the ones we saw recently are, so they didnt go past there
Also, ballast extras rarely pick up directly from everett, thats just where they get the ballast
@@BostonByRails Gotcha, so what goes and picks up the ballast in Everett?
@@trainsofboston3492 whenever they need to they probs just send a loco there. They send whenever yhey want so its based on luck if u catch em
What is this one car "Portland Extra"? Out of South Station?
Bradford Townley amtrak equitment move for the downeaster from south hampton yard to portland maine
@@BostonByRails all that to move one coach. Cool.
Why two locomotives? Minimum axle count?
Can you make red line and blue line and orange line videos
