"It's not a helpful exercise to think if you could have won; you should just identify the mistake and try to do better next time." This little gem buried at 2:48:12. Thank you, Reid, for your hard work and great videos.
I am an avid Jund player. I love learning from Reid (aka the Grandmaster) this much jund and with this serious of a competition was a great way to really understand the logic behind every play. Watching on twitch and seeing the games is never the same. Keep it up Reid! Love the content. JUND EM OUT! I will never give up on jund being top tier
Ricardo López yes the play was to k commanded the ape, tick down liliana and blow up the overgrown tomb, still probably wouldve lose but it was frustrating seeing him in the tank and not seeing it.
Scrolled down just to see if anyone else spotted that. No idea what the rest of that turn should have been but fulminator on his own swamp seemed like a good start.
Hmm, it looks like a better line @ 2:47:40 would be to play Dark Confidant, play the verdant catacombs instead of the raging ravine. This would leave up Kolaghan's Command mana. When his opponent attacks, Reid can sac the Fulminator to kill his Overgrown Tomb, block a Street Wraith with Blood Braid Elf. At the end of turn, Kolaghan's Command the damaged Street Wraith, getting back Blood Braid Elf. This line at least gets another Cascade trigger to find a Maelstrom or a removal for the other creatures. However, if Reids opponent finds another cascade card, Reid would be in the same position he's in now.
Watching this video in 2024 is a wild experience. How could any of us have known then that 3 of the cards in the main deck I'd be surprised if I saw in a game of modern now. Still a master class of the ages
Would it have been worthwhile to blow up your Overgrown Tomb (only Swamp) with Fulminator in the face of the Street Wraiths? Maybe not with the blockers available, but it's tempting to turn of the Swampwalk.
I agree, i was about to comment the same thing. not that it would have accomplished much, but at least he would have left himself with the out of drawing a big creature to keep the situation at stalemate for the time being. then edicts, then removals, who knows.
Lucarioguild7 I wonder how the deck fares against other common archetypes. People don't seem to run much gy hate these days so post-board games should be decent.
Alkoholwioslaidziwki Well living end dodges most common gy hate, I was thinking more along the lines of a living end getting countered or remanded is such a feel bad. Counter spells make living end a fair creature deck which gets hosed real bad
This awesome deluge of content from Reid and Ben S, along with the always great, ever present veedios has made one thing clear imo - CFB could really use a Brad Nelson or BBD style standard specialist player to round out their regular lineup.
Reilly Miller I would guess that standard just doesn't really have an audience, as few people are interested in it. That's why I think they stopped making standard videos.
Great game play and kept your cool throughout your matches. Shame you didn't see the line with Fulminator mage in game 2 against Living End but that match-up looked brutal.
Reid, your spotlight on the Netflix Documentary "Enter the Battlefield" was great. Keep up the good work. Ive been watching you play while I was in Afghanistan.
This Tourney had everything: Reid finally running good with his Jund List (So Nice to see!), Reid trouncing some control decks, Reid almost showing some emotion, Reid with the sweet sideboard techs, etc. I havent personally ran this good since I top 8'ed after opening Kalitas in sealed. This was some Coooool Runnings.
opponent made a lot of mistakes. For instance match 1 game 1 pathing the scooze gave Reid a turn 3 bloodbraid and gave him back the black mana that was cut off with spreading seas.
Honestly, I was just honored to play against (IMO) one of the best players in the game. I probably could have played game 1 better and perhaps forced game 3, but oh well.
I just realized that this video was made before the London mulligan. That's actually pretty insane! I still love the content, but that feels like a long time to me.
At 2:48:50 I could see, k command the spirit guide (with discard or rebuy fulminator after this next bit) first then liliana to make them sac the horror, fulminator your own overgrown tomb (only swamp) and double block one of the wraiths going to 1 after the catacomb fetch for a basic forest. then you are still on top deck hope mode
This is exactly the play I think would've given you the best outs, but it is INSANELY difficult to spot when you are not only playing a high stakes game but also commentating. That said, you found the line!
My goodness 😮! Reid annilated his first round opponent. All of Reid draws were godly. First match, the wrath of bbe. Second match, hand disruption lead to LotV, LtlH and Fulminator Mage deadly combination was too much. All though this video is nearly two years old, Reid is having more fun. He still is just seen more analyzing and observing.. Which is also a good thing.
Game 2 of Match 1 was absolutely brutal! Poor guy mulliganed to 5 and then had nothing but lands by turn 2, facing down a turn 3 liliana that was bound to ultimate. Really crazy!
You played so well, the whole tournament. Then the misplay with the Fulminator Mage, followed almost immediately by the misplay with the Thoughtseize, (don't cast it!) followed by no sac on the Overgrown Tomb? That made the Magic Baby Jesus cry... Still, 7-1 up until that point, and Living End is a notoriously difficult deck to play against. Glad I got to see all that.
That Living End match was definitely playable, even after the mistake Reid made. I feel like he kind of just gave up once he decided how tough a matchup it was.
Great video. You could have fulminated your overgrown tomb to play around the swampwalk. I don't know if that would have really stabilized you but maybe!
2:49:00 how about this line: tap OTomb for mana, sac Fulminator, kill your only swamp. kolaghans command choosing 2 dmg to spirit guide, return fulminator, liliana edict. Then have bob and BBE to double block one of the remaining 2 creatures; go to your turn 7 with Fulminator in hand, possibly lili in game and a Ravine with mana in play.
This is like your 5th Jund video I've watched. I could watch more every day. So good. I think I saw you playing a Lingering Souls Jund at a tournament from a few years ago? Is that something you'd be interested in showing us? I'm playing 2 Lingering Souls, and a Nissa in my deck... because they're fun and good against go-wide decks.
Hey Reid, you are the Jund master! Do you think that Tireless could replace confidant or is it just too slow? Maybe a 2,2 split to save your life total. I don't know, you are the expert sir!
I'm wondering if there is merit to boarding in EE as a hedge against creature heavy hands from burn like g2m2. That situation was pretty much Brutality/sweeper or bust.
I feel bad for the match 3 guy, he was probably having fun running his rough and tumble cheerios deck through a modern challenge when he ran into Reid Duke with a finely tuned Jund list.
Reid do you think 4 bolts is overkill now? Perhaps a 2 push 3 bolt split. And I saw the dreadbore in the main. Wondering how you like it over a second terminate seeing as your running 2 maelstrom pulse.
I believe it's about making bad match-ups better for the lowest cost, and worst case scenario Bolt can go directly at your opponent if they have no creatures, while Push would be a dead card. Also, there is now a lot of creatures not answered by the Push, while Bolt can at least be used as a combat trick to get a trade. I also like Dreadbore instead of 2nd Terminate, since Jund is often played sorcery speed anw, and Teferi or Karn answered for just 2 mana feels good.
On the last game... At one point your only swamp was one overgrown. You could have used your own fmage on it to turn off swampwalk. Would have bought one more turn....
at 56:00 you shouldve fetched the Blood Crypt instead of the OTomb given the amount of Red Burn you might wanna unload in a single turn, once the opponent tapped out eot f.e. this would've prevented him from seeing 12 new cards on their turn 8
spending a card to slightly inconvenience your opponent is not where you want to be. Every card in reid's deck needs to counteract at least 1 lightning bolt or advance his game plan in some way.
You said you don't like mulliganing in game 1 becausse you dont know what you're looking for, but isn't hand disruption into bob/goyf good versus any deck?
2 hours and 50 minutes of Reid? YES PLEASE
I said the same thing... then I saw this comment
do you mean 1h 25 minutes?
Isabelle The Arctic Wolf I
@@dudaseifert yes !
"It's not a helpful exercise to think if you could have won; you should just identify the mistake and try to do better next time."
This little gem buried at 2:48:12. Thank you, Reid, for your hard work and great videos.
This kind of challenge is exactly what the people want--One of the best for the site playing 7 rounds of their best/favorite deck.
Thank you!!
Reid and Luis are just the 2 best videoproducers of channelfireball. And it's not even close, bring more of those 2.
We just got a 3 hour Reid Duke video, and now we get another? This must be what happiness feels like.
Sir,
It's always a gift watching you play and discuss your thought process with us. Thank you!
Love your videos. The slightly higher stakes in this one made it even more enjoyable.
This video is priceless for Jund players
Jund masterclass...
Reid Duke. Jund. 7 rounds. I can't believe it's only July and it's already Christmas!
It was even 8 Rounds, 6-0, quarterfinals and semifinals!
In the last match, he could have Fulminatored his own Overgrown Tomb to avoid Swampwalk, right?
Ricardo López yes the play was to k commanded the ape, tick down liliana and blow up the overgrown tomb, still probably wouldve lose but it was frustrating seeing him in the tank and not seeing it.
Yes.
Scrolled down just to see if anyone else spotted that. No idea what the rest of that turn should have been but fulminator on his own swamp seemed like a good start.

Street Wraith with Blood Braid Elf.
Yep, I saw the same line... but he lost the concentration after the small mistake with the Fulminator. Anyway thanks for the great content Reid.
Having entered a few myself, I know challenges are draining. But goddamn it if I don't enjoy seeing so much content from one of my favourite players
God damn jund is a sleek, sexy, powerful deck that rewards skillful play and is just all business. I can't imagine a more perfect deck.
Never in my life have I needed something so much and never known it until I received it.
So much fun to watch! Thank you Reid for spreading the jund love!
Great video. One note: at 1:35:18 -- playing the land doesn't give opponent priority, so it's safe, you can't get Cryptic there.
doesn't matter, in response to lili +1 trigger you cryptic and he loses lili is the stuff you wanna avoid
The Golden Age of Modern. Reid, Jund, Bloodbraid Elf.
Watching this video in 2024 is a wild experience. How could any of us have known then that 3 of the cards in the main deck I'd be surprised if I saw in a game of modern now. Still a master class of the ages

crazy that the living end player made it that far with so much control running around kudos to them
Lucarioguild7 maybe he did because Reid slaughtered them all
I win two UW in this Modern Challenge!
Cool :)
Lucarioguild7 I wonder how the deck fares against other common archetypes. People don't seem to run much gy hate these days so post-board games should be decent.

Reid playing Modern is just pure gasoline. That spirits deck looked sweet
I dont think a youtube video has ever made me so happy lol
That match 1 was... Filthy! Poor opponent was completely annihilated, especially in game 2 where he ended the game with one, lonely plains.
opponent made a lot of mistakes. For instance match 1 game 1 pathing the scooze gave Reid a turn 3 bloodbraid and gave him back the black mana that was cut off with spreading seas.
I never said I was good at this game.
Props for your humility. I certainly wouldn't worry about losing to Reid Duke though.
The bad control deck did bad things and lose to a deck that is much better with an experienced pilot.
Honestly, I was just honored to play against (IMO) one of the best players in the game. I probably could have played game 1 better and perhaps forced game 3, but oh well.
CFB pls buy everyone better microphones but ty for all you do
This is the type of content I love. Piles of Reid Duke content.
I just realized that this video was made before the London mulligan. That's actually pretty insane! I still love the content, but that feels like a long time to me.

I was thinking the same but is so hard to see when you are in it. Thanks again for view of the best deck in Magic Reid!
this was awesome. please record more videos of you doing long form tournaments in the future!
Literally overjoyed every time there's a new Reid video
Y’all should show challenges more often!!!
Reid i really love these long form videos i know they are alot of effort and i appreciate it and hope you continue them
Great content! Loved the video! Please continue making these videos!
Thanks Reid! Saw your 6-1 and wanted to get an insight on your thoughts. Wishes granted, great! :)
Reid doing work with Jund is all I want in life.
jeffieog #doingthelordswork
Draws 4th bloodbraid elf: "Whelp. This is just about the best hand a jund player can ask for." -Reid Duke
My goodness 😮! Reid annilated his first round opponent. All of Reid draws were godly. First match, the wrath of bbe. Second match, hand disruption lead to LotV, LtlH and Fulminator Mage deadly combination was too much.

Wow, game 2 of the first match, love it X-D
love seeing a whole tournament like this
you had me at "Reid Duke plays jund"
they had me at "Reid"
That Living End match was definitely playable, even after the mistake Reid made. I feel like he kind of just gave up once he decided how tough a matchup it was.
in the last game i think you may use fulminator on your own swamp to block the wraits

this is the best cfb content style in a long while
Love watching Reid play mid-range in modern.
Reed is such a class act
This is like your 5th Jund video I've watched. I could watch more every day. So good. I think I saw you playing a Lingering Souls Jund at a tournament from a few years ago? Is that something you'd be interested in showing us? I'm playing 2 Lingering Souls, and a Nissa in my deck... because they're fun and good against go-wide decks.
Reid in your las tmatch, you can sacrifice fuminator crashing overgorund tomb and block two creatures, for one draw plus
that Game 1 against UW control was awesome (starting @ 51:48). "well this is the nightmare scenario"
R4G1 was honestly unbelievable. I don't think there's many players who would have won that game in your position
Love watching the 7 rounds, more content the better
I have never clicked on a video quicker in my life than I did this one.
Great stuff as always Reid, ggs sir
I've been watching this and didn't realize it was uploaded 5 years ago. 😅 I was wondering why I didn't see a lot of the newer cards.
same here lol
that spirits deck was sweet! love me some tribal soup
Reid Duke Vintage Marathon... now Reid Duke 7-Round of JUND MODERN?!?! I'm genuinely tearing up slightly with happiness :')
Why in 59:00 he grabs de ooze instead of the opp discard?
Amazing as always Reid!
This is not the match we deserve but the match we need
Feel you on the target snapcaster as a go to lol
Round 4 Reid won a game where he *did not resolve a spell until turn 5* against a control deck. What a fucking master
Round 4, jeez. Exactly summs up why i would never play a blue-based control deck in modern right now.
I feel like those matches versus UW control really showed off the card and tempo disadvantage inherent in Path to Exile.
Hey Reid, you are the Jund master! Do you think that Tireless could replace confidant or is it just too slow? Maybe a 2,2 split to save your life total. I don't know, you are the expert sir!
This is the epitome of magic content
Maelstrom pulse Blood Moon!? I like it!!! LOL killed me :)
I'm wondering if there is merit to boarding in EE as a hedge against creature heavy hands from burn like g2m2. That situation was pretty much Brutality/sweeper or bust.
Would it have been a good play to fulminator your own overgrown tomb?
Can we see some jund standard builds and more standard bo1 content ???
I know this is small but at 1:14:51 why the raging ravine over the cliffs?
Man, you got away with a freaking robbery match 4 game 1 😂
I feel bad for the match 3 guy, he was probably having fun running his rough and tumble cheerios deck through a modern challenge when he ran into Reid Duke with a finely tuned Jund list.
Reid do you think 4 bolts is overkill now? Perhaps a 2 push 3 bolt split. And I saw the dreadbore in the main. Wondering how you like it over a second terminate seeing as your running 2 maelstrom pulse.

I also like Dreadbore instead of 2nd Terminate, since Jund is often played sorcery speed anw, and Teferi or Karn answered for just 2 mana feels good.
Really difficult to see the line in that last match. Probably wouldnt be enough anyways but who know what the next draw would have brought.
what happened to the esper stoneblade legacy video that you guys just posted?
Dark confident is pretty bad, I'm not surprised you cut it. Also, did you consider playing obnixilis reignited over LotV?
@ChannelFireball : Reid, you really need to do something about your microphone picking up so much fan noise from your computer...
Why fetch before the gobiln guide trigger at 26:00?
Can we just appreciate that the control player cast ZERO spells the second game?
(After Reid drew 100% Bloodbraids the first game no less, lol.)
On the last game... At one point your only swamp was one overgrown. You could have used your own fmage on it to turn off swampwalk. Would have bought one more turn....
I personally would have taken that Borosh Charm with the Inquisition in game two against Burn.
Match 4 Game 1, holy moly
I wish I had the money to build Jund...
this deck is awesome
You could have blown up your own Overgrown Tomb to stop swampwalk
at 56:00 you shouldve fetched the Blood Crypt instead of the OTomb given the amount of Red Burn you might wanna unload in a single turn, once the opponent tapped out eot f.e. this would've prevented him from seeing 12 new cards on their turn 8
Water is wet, the sky is blue, Jund is good deck in Modern.
At like 1:03:53 isn’t the better play double spelling lilli then k command instead of just running the treetop into an open ghost quarter?
UW Spirits with vial is really on the rise.
Sweet Ride, Thx
would the damping saphere not be good against the burn deck as it makes them pay one more mana after the first?
spending a card to slightly inconvenience your opponent is not where you want to be. Every card in reid's deck needs to counteract at least 1 lightning bolt or advance his game plan in some way.
You said you don't like mulliganing in game 1 becausse you dont know what you're looking for, but isn't hand disruption into bob/goyf good versus any deck?
Malte Diekmann landssss
This makes me sincerely miss piloting Jund...and I played when BBE was still banned :/
