This is really good to hear. Thanks for sharing. Doing a lot of research on this as my 20 year old brother is going through this, surgery will hopefully be in the next couple months Thanks again for sharing
Thank you for this I'm preparing for my surgery here in the US. I'm 39 and have to have my aortic valve replaced and aortic aneurysm repair. I'm scared out of my mind. I'm getting the cow tissue valve since I'm a Jehovah's witness and it's best for me not to be on blood thinners since I can't have any type of blood transfusions. It's nice to see what to expect thanks for the video 🤗
Thanks. Spot on. Especially the thirst thing. I had SAVR 2015 and have to have it again in a week or so 1 December. Did it once...learned some stuff. .do it better next time:)
Sounds very similar to what other people have said about waking up in icu. Intense thirst. I had not heard of the vomiting. The breathing tube removal is uncomfortable. They get you out of bed as fast as possible.
Hey Video 1 is so helpful! I’m going in for a replacement valve surgery soon so really appreciate your down to earth honesty about how it went for you.. Im still scared but I’m sure you were too. Iona
Hey, thanks for the comment. I hope everything goes well with your surgery, and here's to a speedy recovery. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Hi Simon,my fiance is not wakin up 40 hours already after operation. She is 34 years old. I am so scared, usually people are wakin up after several hours
Thank you for posting your journey! It's so great to be able to watch. I have to have my aortic valve replaced soon. I too like you have had prior open heart surgery but I was only 8 then and I am 52 now!! I want to ask you, did they just cut right through your old scar? How does your new scar look compared to the previous one?
Hey, thanks for your comment. Good luck with your future surgery. They attempted to cut through the old incision site, and my surgeon said afterwards how tough it was to cut through all of the old scar tissue that had formed. The new scar was bigger than the old, and was clearly a new incision, so I almost had two scars next to each other. I'm almost 3 years post op and it's pretty much merged in to one scar now
I'm in the states its icu here too. I need aortic valve replacement too im scared of later complications more then the surgery. I just wanna live a full lifetime hope its possible.
@@Aortic-Valve-Replacement thanks for that. Yeah im 31 with a family. I think I'm just thinking about all the bad things that could happen. And not the goodness that will come as well. Thanks again
No problem, any questions just ask. At your age, the risks are really low, it's serious surgery but to the teams who do it, it's the day job, they're so good. The real work for you starts afterwards to work on your recovery. Fingers crossed all goes well
I go in for a Mitral valve repair or replacement in just over a month. Must admit scared as heck! Thanks for the video Simon. Let’s me know what to expect. In Canada we also call it an ICU
Great video Simon, Im due a CABG and Valve in a week or soo. Like you ive got ideas of filming but i'll wing it for the time being i think haha. Hope all's well fella 👍
