    To anyone here who like me was unable to activate LDAC on Android settings, have a look at Sony Headphone app if multipoint pairing is enabled. If it is, disable it, restart your phone and now you'll probably be able to use LDAC.

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  4 роки тому +21

      Wired is softer. There is less dynamic range. It’s also highly dependent on the player you are using. Because the sound processing is no longer done on the Sony. It will lean towards whatever sound signature your player is putting out. So it will differ for you. But on my FiiO m6, analog didn’t sound as good as an ldac connection. The m6 is after all a very budget player.

      I know it’s a bit late, but I have the xm3. If you use them wired and you turn them on, they still process the sound, they’re still ‘active’ headphones. Whereas if you run them wired and turned off they are ‘passive’ and they do sound worse depending on what you drive them with.

    Ldac is the only way to go, and I tell this to people all the time. AAC sucks, SBC sucks. Great video my friend. I am happy UA-camrs like you are around. You provide depth to your explanations others dont.

      @@PeterPee yeah that's what it stands for. The idea is that the codec's compression is only in the higher frequencies so your ear shouldn't be able to hear the compression. Aptx is found in Qualcomm chipsets (not all, having to check in the bluetooth specifications if the device has or not - it will appear more or less like A2DP / LE / Aptx which are protocols supported by the device) and LDAC is exclusive to Sony headphones. For a change Apple has its own protocol for its headphones.

    Hi Peter, another great video. LDAC “Lossy Digital to Analog Codec” is my guess considering it’s “near lossless quality, but not exact”. Yet another marketing term from Sony. I used to be a Sony enthusiast especially back in the day when they made Viao laptops and every TV I had in the past was always a Sony. One note, when I opened the XM4, I had to charge it fully before it would even power up. Something I did not expect. It makes me question the battery supplied in the unit I purchased from Best Buy. Did you try the Music Apps that was offered, with the “360” Audio? We share the same head structure, and did you find the air pressure slightly uncomfortable? I found the overall frequency response sounded congested. To the average consumer, one probably wouldn’t be bothered. For audiophiles, this wouldn’t be the choice for a daily headphone for listening to your favourite music. Personally I prefer the Aiaiai TMA - 2 Studio as the most comfortable over ear headphones with decent sound at a consumer level cost. I can wear them all day with no discomfort. Same with Sennheiser HD800s from 10 years back.

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  3 роки тому

      I think I know what you are referring to. If you are on the audiophile track, there is a definite preference to open headphones. Noise Cancelling headphones will always give you that closed up feel which most audiophile find unnatural. I don't have a problem with the pressure but the 1000m4 aren't ones for 4 hour listening sessions.

    The iPhone has never supported AptX or AptX HD or any other of the Qualcomm owned codec's. The XM4 also switched from Qualcomm to Mediatek for it's internal chip. This has increased performance on many levels, like the ANC, but it did mean no more codec support for AptX, but given that Android has LDAC baked in now, it never really used AptX there anyways.

    • @PeterPee

      @Aiii83 4 роки тому

      Peter Pee This hasn't so much got to do with the ecosystem being closed off, but rather with licensing. Qualcomm and Apple had a long battle in courts over SOC patents for years and only recently settled so Apple can use their 5G tech, so maybe AptX support will come in the future sometime. LDAC is from Sony itself and used to be exclusive to their own Xperia devices, they gave it to Android for free since Android 8 or 9 a few years ago, but I don't know if they'd even offer it to Apple if given the chance.

  • @XysGynx

    I returned them before even unboxing them when I found out that LDAC does not work while multipoint is active. So basically if I run them on an LDAC compatible phone, connect them to a laptop via multipoint to take calls during work hours, it automatically switches to SBC when I go back to the Phone. This is ridiculous. This makes it that I can either use multipoint or LDAC, but I can't use both technologies even though these two were the selling points for me. I watched 20 reviews or so before buying them and not one single reviewer mentioned this. The fact that on premium headphones no one is talking about the codecs is kind of dumb to me. That's one of the most important parts that make them high end.
    In regards to the above, you mentioned that you switch between the Fiio M6 and the phone. If this is the case without the Fiio then switching to SBC then I'm for sure buying one of those. Also, by the very unlikely chance that you are reading this, what do you think about the ATH-M50XBT2 compared to the XM4s?

      To be honest, they are mostly quite good and up there already. LDAC is a lot cleaner and there seems to be a bit more headroom so that the louder sounds are louder and you can also hear the softer sounds.
      But I will dare say that most people won't be able to discern the difference between LDAC and APTX-HD. SBC which is the base BT audio protocol is a mile away and that, the difference can be discerned easily. But between LDAC and APTX-HD, one would be hard-pressed to hear the difference.

When you do noise cancelling on the xm4, and because of the fact the the mic is used to pick up your voice, you do hear some of the surrounding bleed into your voice. For voice call, I find the AirPods Pro to be superior but for music, they suck. So for the superiority in music for the xm4, I do find that the voice call quality for xm4 to be good already. Under setting >> Connected devices >> Bluetooth > Press the gear Icon beside the SONY WMX4 ,,,
      Under connection type. >>> choose Best Sound quality instead of Most Stable.
      Second is using the Sony Music Centre app , then choose the WMX 4 > Music Centre Setting > Bluetooth Output setting ....then choose Prioritize LDAC
      Hope that helps and enjoy the actual MUSIC,,,,,, and use clear bass !!
      And pls use Hi res files , Tidal Hi Fi or Qobuz !
      Don’t expect much from Apple Music or Spotify ....

    Too be honest there is not much benefit spotify has compresed lossy content apple lossy content is like 256kbs for Bluetooth quality so ldac will maybe be slightly better but it won't be a hi fi knock your socks of turn it to 11 sort of good its decent than before
