What do you think of someday reviewing, or even resuming playing, puzzle parks or otherwise cool scenarios, like when you streamed Quantum's Edge, or other hard custom scenarios? I'm thinking stuff like this one grid park made for Heartline Twisters, played by a Korean streamer called Funzinnu. iirc
The vision of a demiurge-like entity uploading videos about our reality on a higher plane version of youtube always returns to me every time I get a notification from this channel.
You most likely know this but in OpenRCT2 you can make the boat tracks invisible using the tile inspector. It's pretty handy if you want your guests to follow a designed path but don't want to actually see the tracks themselves
Didn't they add an invisible track colour to OpenRCT2 a while ago? You can just paint the entire track invisible instead of tile inspecting each track piece separately.
I appreciate you going over all the conditions that keep boats from being able to get back to the station. I’ve had a lot of trouble with free-roaming boat hires in RCT Classic using designs that used to run flawlessly in RCT 1 when I was a kid.
I enjoy putting four bumper boat hires in a square, creating a "bumper cars" ride on the water. I also enjoy creating large swimming areas, and using a graphics mod that transforms the boat hire into swimmers. You can make the entrances and exits invisible, and with cheats give them plenty of "boats." Swan boats are great to go around scenic areas, like around a castle "moat."
I'm sure with OpenRCT2's enhancements, you could make a man-made pool small enough where the guests wouldn't get stuck. My only question is "Why didn't I think of this?!?"
Covered boats or not, an amusement park would be taking their insurance premiums in their own hands with guests climbing in and out of boats in the rain! Then again, this is RollerCoaster Tycoon, where safety standards are a little different…
My tip to avoid boats from getting stuck is to avoid dead-ends, even if they are very small. Most of the time, building the entrance and exist paths can create those dead-ends, for example at 2:48. I use scenery or terrain to prevent that. Still, there was a bug in the original where boats could get stuck slighty off to the side when trying to enter the station. So that didn't help!
Marcel, I’ve been binging all your videos for 2 weeks now. I sleep with your videos in the background, there is not a day that goes by without me hearing ’Hello everyone’. I may be addicted. And I haven’t even played OpenRCT that much yet
2:40 : So these 40 guests only like the theme park because of the boats and want to travel all the way through Rollercoaster Tycoon land just to try the boat hire?
in openrct2 you can download a version of the boat hire that makes the boats invisible and the guests look like they're swimming in a pool which is super fun to use
I sincerely hope the pathfinding for the 'freeroam mode' of the boats gets further tweaked and enhanced in the future - I found a small mod awhile ago that lets you (ironically enough) turn the boat hire into a swimming pool entrance/exit for guests to jump in and swim in a pond/lake/man-made pool.
I feel like the Jet Skis are the only one I can build, not have a huge or escapable area, and they won't all get stuck on each other. The guests are insanely dumb lol. I actually first used them in a slightly expanded water area on a hard level in 2 (I wasn't ready for hard yet then) where you added a seaworld inspired park to your own and had to make a purchased pathway there. I really got to go crazy on theming a swan boat one with some tunnels and indoor section one of these days, it's like one of the few things I for some reason haven't really done.
The boat hire was always the first ride I would build in RCT. It was cheap and always thought it was a good starting ride and always tried to build them under my coasters for excitement boosts.
I used to think I always needed track as a kid, then I realized I didn't and stopped doing that. Now knowing they might get stuck, I always build track, because whilst I'd love to let them roam free, if you get stuck, you should have the responsibility of getting back home.
I’m currently watching this stuck in my boat at the exit of the ride… I swear this guy blocking the station better move or else I’m going to storm out of this park!
2:11 Wait, can they actually exit the park, or is there some trick I'm missing here? Edit: Never mind, you discuss this later in the video. Leaving the comment up for engagement purposes.
4:15 Citation needed. Are the jetskis really powered? Or do they move faster through some other enigmatic property that can only be understood within the lore of RollerCoaster Tycoon? The world may never know. On a more serious note; What happens when the boat hire breaks down? Do all the boats stop? If only they spun rapidly and exploded.
omg, I've beein waiting for this video for so long... And 11:55 made it completely worth it! Not just that bit, of course. I've learned so much that I wondered about for years!
I will admit, I have a big preference for rides that can't break down, in the same way I do for the food stalls that don't produce litter. If it's one less thing for my staff to worry about, it's one less thing for my mind to have to juggle.

What you don't know is that this video was being worked on for months. The reaosn why it took so long to be uploaded was because Marcel Vos got on a boat hire to get first hand experience and got lost for 3 months.
I always hated when they got stuck as they approached the end of the station.... making a Channel with land around it seemed to force them to unbunch before they got there which prevented that tho
basically unrelated to the game systems but you say only the boats with mechanical advantage can break down and that is not technically true as mechanical advantage is force amplificatoin that can result even from levers like oars and pedals in boats. i know you meant the difference is whether the devices have a motor though (or are presumed to be powered by one anyway). i think machines are awesome things even in simple form so i just wanted to point this out in case anyone reading might be interested in learning more exciting things about machines. physics is just so cool... anyway... thanks for the informative video!
Since switching to open rct2 I always thought they fixed the path finding on the boats but perhaps I just was building bad designs when I was young with to much in the way

Which mod is it?
You’re gonna need a bigger boat.🦈
The last time I was this early, I didn't want to go on Boat Hire 1 because it looked too intense for me.
I'll beat that... last time I was this early, I wasn't going to pay that much to go on ITS A FEATURE. Now? Eh, inflation happens.
Just looking at Boat Hire 1 makes me feel sick!
Boat hire 1 has really good value.

Video Request: Optimal Queue line length, it's an interesting thought experiment, and I'd be curious on your take. Love the vids.
This would be great, I never know how long to make a queue.
He's addressed it before. Essentially you have to look at que time and then make it no longer than around 6 minutes when guests would complain

I usually have the tracks set to the dark water color, but that is a better way to do it.

@Nauskills Off-topic, but I love the profile pic. Got a source?
@@MisterDutch93 that's pretty handy, does it also make the starting platforms invisible?

I understood that reference
I once used the swan boat IRL on a lake, it was very cool, so the bonus is real
3:45 ... wait. is the swan boat more exciting and intense because the devs wanted to evoke the love tunnel attractions?

I'm sure with OpenRCT2's enhancements, you could make a man-made pool small enough where the guests wouldn't get stuck.
My only question is "Why didn't I think of this?!?"
12:00 is the drowning included in this design, so it is better?
There's one detail missing, you can use the circuit path as a fence to reduce the chance of the guesses getting lost.
I've done this as well, as long as u keep it a reasonable distance you get reasonable throughput rather then boats getting lost.
Covered boats or not, an amusement park would be taking their insurance premiums in their own hands with guests climbing in and out of boats in the rain! Then again, this is RollerCoaster Tycoon, where safety standards are a little different…
20 horizontal g's? Sure, that's fine. Inflatable raft jumped a couple inches off the track? All passengers leave the park via fiery explosion.
The inflatables in question are inflated by atomic hydrogen. Next question!

1:50 learning that the guests could leave the park boundaries if they were on a boat blew my mind as a kid

Marcel is totally the type of guy to make a 14 minute video about the boat ride in rct. Absolute legend!
I love your vids, there is a lot of content of a game I used to play so casually
The amount of information that can be mined from even the simplest rides in this game is staggering

0:30 that one from Deurklink ist just a classic. I find the idea really funny. Just play some relaxing music while being chased by a shark.
Funny thing is I just working on making a really cool boat hire in Katie's world and bam, Marcel makes a video!

The guests are still in the park, but the boats can go outside of the park boundaries.
9:00 👍
0:28 talking about how the boat hire is a chill ride type.
The footage, meanwhile:
I wonder if you make a boat hire with 2 stations but no track, if the guests will dock at the secondary station too?
I don't know. If I remember correctly, this is one of the rides that can't have multiple platforms. But I am not positive on that.
They do not, I tested this a while ago on stream when somebody asked.

Boat hire: mostly decorative but has a handful of optimised designs and niche exploit uses.

Do the more physical boat types (canoes, swan boats, etc) tire out guests more than if they were jet skis?
