Reasonable Doubt was the result of all that grinding on the road with Jaz, Kane, and then being rejected by every label and starting Rocafella with Dame and Biggs. Reasonable Doubt is All that Jay asked Dame and Biggs for like 20 Years ago. That was his debut album, his artistic baby. That tells you how important it is to him, as an Emcee. As a creator. So much so that He was willing to let them have EVERYTHING ELSE - all he wanted was ownership of that 1 album. They could have had Rocafella and everything else.
As a friend. As a man. I would have let him have it, without taking his stake in everything else. Because thats one way to honor your friends accomplishment. And regardless of how hard Dame fought, or how much bread Biggs had.. without Jay improving himself from his 80s flow, to being an ELITE emcee. Elite enough that Biggie was willing to jump on his album, and DJ Premier. There would be no Rocafella Records without Reasonable Doubt. Period.
But, they refused to do that for him. He went independent and left to run Def Jam, and commenced to taking his pieces back the forceful way. But, ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL these years of drama and estrangement could have been avoided just by better communication and being more considerate, truthfully. Being a better friend can avoid a lot of shxt.
