My 4 year old has 14 cavities, I feel terrible. He has to go be put under general anesthesia and I am very anxious and fearful. I unfortunately look into all the negative scenarios rather than positive. Being on welfare, my only options are 2 dental colleges with bad reviews and a hospital with only 3 stars. I’m so scared I’m psyching myself out of it, looking for other options like SDF (?), etc. Any advice or hope to offer? Any parents reading this, please don’t be like me and do whatever it takes to prevent this. I wish I would done better.
SDF is bad option in most cases. I would not trust the negative reviews. Oftentimes people only post reviews if they have something to complain about. You never get to hear from the thousands of people who had no issues.
Mine has many cavities also he’s 4 and needs this sedation we tried the oral and laughing gas at two dentist offices he just won’t fall asleep or even go under slightly so hospital is the last option I’m so sad and heartbroken, but I’m trying to watch all the good videos and getting this done as soon as they call with our appointment.one tooth is abseces so he’s on on antibiotics for it starting today,I bought kids mouthwash and oral gel and qtips to keep up with the tooth unitl then.cleaning it each time he eats a big meal.
I Wish that there was sedation dentistry when I was a kid in the 1980s...even though I had no problems or cavities....just to get knocked out for the cleaning and exams....
@@melonypullen6149 no it’s actually not the needle that causes the stinging, the stinging is the reaction of the Lidocaine blocking the positive sodium ions from bringing the information from the nerves to the brain

@@aspiechan420Versed (Midazolam) is not a barbiturate - barbiturates haven’t been in common usage for a couple of decades now for safety reasons. It’s a benzodiazepine, which is the same class as Diazepam/Lorazepam etc
They literally didn't explain anything about the deep sedation about what they do, what method it is or anything. They just said they have a nurse to help them with this type of sedation. I still have so many questions.
Not sure if you had it done already but from my personal experience. You’ll be sedated through IV. They gave me laughing gas first to calm my nerves and started the iv after that. I was high as a kite and slurring my words from the gas. When the dr came in and gave me the sedative meds in my iv I was out fast. I woke up after the surgery. Honestly the sedation part was a piece of cake. I had double vision afterward but it only lasted an hour or so. The worst part was recovery. You’ll be sore, be swollen and possibly have headaches. Thankfully recovery is quick. Listen to the post op instructions and follow them to keep your mouth clean and to avoid infections. Good luck ❤
Pretty much. It has no pain relieving properties on its own. A good dentist/doctor will provide pain relief, but the main use for Midazolam is amnesia and making the patient more cooperative
What is the youngest age you would use sedation to fix decay on a baby's teeth? My daughter just had a appointment with her dentist and they informed me that she is going to need to be referred to a oral surgeon to fix all four of her top teeth due to decay and cavities. She is 13 months old and I have brushed her teeth everyday. She has always fought me brushing her top teeth and I admit that they have not been brushed as well as I had hoped but I had no idea it was as bad as it was. I have a great deal of concern letting my 13 month old go under sadation. Do you recommend holding off on getting these cavities /caps treated until she is older ? She also chipped two of her top teeth in a fall. Does that contribute to cavities and decay?
