I used to go watch an open mic every week for about a year until they shut down, and somehow the most unfunny disasters were the most amusing, maybe because of all the built up tension. It's like going to watch a car wreck. But an extremely small minority of seemingly razor sharp, confident guys are able to take even the hardest room and absolutely dominate with how funny and charismatic they are. It really takes you back to ancient Greece, where men would get on stage to roast public officials, tell rape jokes and fart and simulate shitting in more or less ritualized procedures.
