Synopsis
In Earth's future, a global crop blight and a second Dust Bowl are slowly rendering the planet uninhabitable. I watch hundreds of reactions of this movie and it still doesn’t get old
It's freaking amazing
This is one of those movies that I will get emotional every time I watch it. Nolan + Zimmer + Raw human emotion = tears.
That's a perfect equation right there
Definitely- this movie REALLY SURPRISED me because it's so rare for a movie to pull tears from me (well, it's BECOMING a little more common... story below): This is actually the FIRST movie I can actually remember pulling tears from me (relatively recently too, at age 35! And yes... I think that means I'd been quite repressed all my life :P). A few years prior to that, "Inside Out" came VERY close but since my roommates were there, I managed to suppress impending tears (but ONLY with very painful difficulty!). And actually, suppressing tears during "Inside Out" was SO painful that I immediately wished I could go back in time and just let it out, lol.
And actually I think that is why I subsequently started intentionally TRYING to find more tearjerker movies, because something STILL "needed to be let out."
But that wasn't all... I found out, contrary to my "typical history"... I actually started to get very strong CRAVINGS for tearjerkers, of all things. That REALLY confused me... until I did a bit of research and found out that tears can be associated with feel-good brain endorphins. I apparently had just never noticed those until I was 35 years old for whatever reason (!)
A RE-watch of "Inside Out" actually did nothing to me, and I discovered finding any movie to trigger tears from me was easier said than done.
Interstellar was quite a surprise for me. I knew NOTHING about it, so had NO expectations... in fact I was only watching because it was REQUIRED for an online science course (!). To save time, I watched it in pieces as I ate my lunches.

I learned thereafter to put my food DOWN if I sensed anything important might be coming up while watching a movie :P
It took yet a while after Interstellar, but with a bit of looking and recommendations, here are some more that also "effectively destroyed" me::

@@xxsilentreatmentxx I've definitely heard of that a LOT, but had not had easy access to it, and finally gave in to the temptation to watching some UA-cam movie reactions of it (instead of watching the entire thing on my own first). But even watching just the reactions; that movie is purely brutal. There were definitely tears but for me it was more on the side of the the Korean version of "Miracle in Cell No. 7" in terms of the "fight-or-flight" emotions competing with the sadness. Because... starvation and malnutrition really freaks me out- it always has, actually. Even before I saw that movie, I'm the type of person who has always done heavy research on what foods every one of the 26 essential nutrients are found in, and who eats all of my (for example) orange including the peel, and will even rescue potato peels if my roommates make mashed potatoes and are about to throw away the peels. Same with if they roast a chicken and are about to throw away the scraps- I'll rescue the bones and connective tissue and make nutritious bone broth out of it.
I'm always spotting (and often practice foraging and eating) food / edible plants growing outside. And I definitely have a tendency to think long and hard about spending any money especially if it's NOT on food. So yeah... I really understood the seriousness of the movie for sure. I really think such tendencies may have something to do with "genetic memory" from my grandparents surviving their own wartime hard times.
That “we’re just here to make memories for our kids” line gets me every time.

I'm only 10 minutes in, and I love how you pointed out how Tom is hurting too! He seems to be forgotten because the story focuses more on Murph. No one knew who Timothee Chalamet was at this point, but he made so much of his little screen time, even the purely functional lines, that I knew he had the potential to go places.
Absolutely. That guy was broken Inside by his daddy was leaving. I don't know if I left it in the reaction but in the full version I was like "is that Timothy Charlemagne"???? lol he looks so little,. but yes he did a great job here
Tom didn't seem the type to hop into 'Cryosleep' like scientific Murf.
Tom was well gone even if he had lived a long life. Said his goodbye's on the messages, 'letting him go'.
@@JosephHuntelvisnspiders Right. I assume Tom had passed on, especially after living most of his life on the dusty farm. And he was several years older than Murph, who was almost 100 at the end! When Murph said that nobody believed her that her dad gave her the quantum data, that might have included Tom. I can see why the end had to be so focused on Murph and Cooper, but it would be nice to know that Tom's family got to a place where his son could be healthy.

"Arrival" and Interstellar are two films that make me feel similar things. Highly recommend watching Arrival.

Arrival is absolutely amazing but the short story that the movie is based on is probably one of the best things I’ve ever read in my life. It’s seriously on another level and it’s a quick read like 100 pages or something.

The story of arrival was brilliant, but the theatrics as a whole were underwhelming. It just felt kind of slow and drug on.
The 'monologue' given by Professor Brand as they take off from Earth to travel to Saturn is a poem from Dylan Thomas, copywritten in 1939.
The first planet, Miller's Planet, is so close to Gargantua that the tides have, over time, smoothed the planet to an equal depth. But the gravity is so strong that it creates MONSTER tides. Tsunamis look like ripples on the open ocean, but grow taller when it gets to shallow areas, like at the coasts; this entire planet is uniformly shallow, so the tides are HUGE. Nothing can live there.
The 'first handshake' points to the fact that Coop is in love with Brand; love led him to her. And it leads him to leave the mass exodus to rejoin her on Edmonds' planet. Not to bring her home, but to help establish a home for the exodus to come home to. Edmonds' planet is to be humankind's new home.
9:32 These lines were not written for the movie. They are from the mind of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, who wrote the villianelle style poem to his dying father. It's title is aptly "Do not go gentle into that good night". It's a short poem, so I will share it here:

“We agreed Amelia, 90%” will always be one of my favorite lines. I think it perfectly encapsulates being human and the dynamics between the characters in this film. Then Coop changing Tars’ honesty parameter to 95% after being rescued made it even better.

Don't know if it was mentioned. Christopher Nolan actually went to Hans Zimmer with the plot or idea for the movie without haven't even written yet. Hans Zimmer came up with the entire score for the film with that little information.

They also planted the corn crop. They didn't want to burn someone else's so Christopher Nolan grew all those corn for this movie.

Actually Nolan didn't tell Zimmer the actual plot at all. All Nolan told Zimmer to do was make a score about the connection between a father and son. Zimmer thought it was going to be a drama about a father son relationship, not a sci-fi movie about a father and daughter saving the human race.
Also they used a real church organ in the main theme. It's the organ in London's Temple Church, made in 1926. The organ is huge and vibrates the whole building.

The clips of interviews with older folks is from the documentary The Dust Bowl, by Ken Burns, which is about the American Dust Bowl, a lot of this movie reflects the environmental effects that that had on Midwest America. Honestly I would love to see someone react to a Ken Burns documentary, they're amazing, I've never had documentaries make me cry and feel so many emotions the way his tend to. The Dust Bowl is a very good one, the people they used in Interstellar are folks who were children living through those times and some of the stories they have to tell will break your heart but also impress the hell out of you with how resilient people can be
If you are looking for another documentary to make you cry.... try "Blackfish" (captive killer whale documentary). That one got me 4 times during my first watch of it. Documentaries, even whale or other animal documentaries, even animal commercials, NEVER before made me cry but that one sure did.
That one last mission at the end is not to bring Brand back but to stay with Brand on that planet to start the population/civilization thus making the human race "Interstellar" by having one branch settle on a planet and the other branch in the space stations. Which we know succeeded because we became fifth dimensional beings in the very far future. Part of me wants a sequel that would tell that story but it's up to our imagination now.
That makes sense. And yes, getting a sequel to Interstellar would be a gift.
Our imaginations are so challenged in this movie. Thinking outside of the box is mandatory. If you let our minds go there, we can solve anything. What a nail biter!

This has got to be one of the most emotional films I've ever watched. My eyes were very red and swollen by the time I was done watching it. Best movies to date, honestly. Also, great reaction. There's more to Interstellar than being just a movie about space and looking for a brand new colony up there. It's more on the importance of human bond and connection and also the complex reality that is coming to terms with loss, love, and regret.

10 fuckin years since I saw this in theatre, and this movie still hits me like train.
It’s one of those timeless masterpiece. I feel that.
Speaking of such a time gap... that reminded me of ME and "The Land Before Time." ACTUALLY... when I saw "The Land Before Time" as a child, even though I knew it was very sad, I never cried to it. Then, flash forward to a re-watch of it at age... 35... THAT hit me like a train!

I am divorced, and this movie came out when I was divorcing, my daughter wanted to be with me not with mum, I knew how hard is for father to get the child, so I would watch this movie and cry all time, jesus... but in the same time I would gather my strength to fight for my daughter, and I succeded, my daughter lives with me since then. So whenever I watch this movie I remember that period, especially when Cooper have to leave and Murph is sayin: STAY... jesus man.... anyway, greets my friend.
Interstellar focuses on a fathers unconditional love for his children.
Arrival which is another beautiful movie focuses on a mother's unconditional love for her daughter.
To very beautiful and tragic movies with amazing soundtracks.
Arrival is seriously underrated and brought me to tears.

Its taken me a few watches to realize that Coop grabbing Brand's hand is an example of what Brand said about love traveling dimensions. I think he loves her so hes able to reach through the dimensions and touch her.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but on the water planet you hear a ticking sound in the background. Each “tick” represents a day passing on Earth
I'm surprised you didn't have more to say AFTER it. I spent the next few HOURS just piecing it all together in my head and thinking about it and being AMAZED, that in the end, it was A LOVE STORY. Of all things, between him and Brand (his wife died, her love died); you didn't realize it, but the movie was them together, their relationship. I remember realizing, the worst part of watching the movie was... and it was a terrible part... that I would never be able to watch the movie again for the first time.

When I watch this movie [own it of course] I’m from now on going to think of the great book “The Indian in the Cupboard” because of you saying “He was the one in the shelf!” Lol. That could be the title of the movie. But I think “Astronaut in the Shelf” could be a dead giveaway for the movie.

Watched this movie for the first time a few days ago. Shed some dad tears I wasn’t expecting. Couldn’t believe it was already ten years old.

I use reaction videos to my favourite films as background to study, and every single time I watch an interstellar one I cry like its my first time watching the movie, even tho I know it by heart at this point
Awwww it took a while to find a movie that did that to me, but for "Nimona"-- THAT one got me 15 times! "Hachi- a Dog's Tale" got me 5-6 times (no clue why THAT one was less than Nimona, but emotions are weird lol).
It's thought that inside a black hole space and time switch places. This movie does such a cool job at showing that in a way that we can understand!
You may have heard this already, but when they're on the first planet (the one where time is radically changed) every "click" you hear in the soundtrack represents an entire day going by on Earth

One CRAZY math that never occured me before was that when Cooper went back and joined with Brand.
Lets assume that the planet was ok and they could survive there and live a healthy life.
Now, Cooper lands on the planet and clock is ticking.
After first 24 hours, 168 years went by on earth.
After first week, 1176 years went by on earth.
After first month, 5040 years..
After first year, 61.320 years..
And lets assume that Cooper lives at least to 80 years old. He has all the equipment and stuff to do so.
He is 35 when he lands on the Brands planet and lives another 45 years... so.
The time when Cooper dies at age 80....

This movie is my favourite of all time because of the concepts of space they explored amd the effort put into putting the science back in science-fiction. Yeah some concepts may be outlandish but they are all at a minimum based on actual concepts per Kip Thorne

YUP, like I mentioned to him in my own comment: I "don't trust" anyone who does NOT cry during Interstellar :D
Interstellar sure surprised ME when I first saw it... here is my little story leading up to it: This is actually the FIRST movie I can actually remember pulling tears from me (relatively recently too, at age 35! And yes... I think that means I'd been quite repressed all my life :P). A few years prior to that, "Inside Out" came VERY close but since my roommates were there, I managed to suppress impending tears (but ONLY with very painful difficulty!). And actually, suppressing tears during "Inside Out" was SO painful that I immediately wished I could go back in time and just let it out, lol.
And actually I think that is why I subsequently started intentionally TRYING to find more tearjerker movies, because something STILL "needed to be let out."
But that wasn't all... I found out, contrary to my "typical history"... I actually started to get very strong CRAVINGS for tearjerkers, of all things. That REALLY confused me... until I did a bit of research and found out that tears can be associated with feel-good brain endorphins. I apparently had just never noticed those until I was 35 years old for whatever reason (!)
A RE-watch of "Inside Out" actually did nothing to me, and I discovered finding any movie to trigger tears from me was easier said than done.
Interstellar was quite a surprise for me. I knew NOTHING about it, so had NO expectations... in fact I was only watching because it was REQUIRED for an online science course (!). To save time, I watched it in pieces as I ate my lunches.
During that infamous "23-years-of-messages" scene... at Murph's line of "...and today I'm the age you were when you left," (as I was STILL subconsciously chewing on my salad!)... I suddenly wondered, "WHY is there liquid running down my nose?!?? OH- probably because this is a sad scene. And, DARN, I'm half-MISSING it because I was so focused on my darn salad!" :P
I learned thereafter to put my food DOWN if I sensed anything important might be coming up while watching a movie :P
It took yet a while after Interstellar, but with a bit of looking and recommendations, here are some more that also "effectively destroyed" me::

@@FrankFreezy_ Hah that's awesome. If you haven't seen it already he did a movie with Guy Ritchie back in 2005 called Revolver you might want to check out. Its a movie about the human ego. Very interesting and underrated film.

Thanx for the re-upload, u have a couple of great ones for us today. Its a lazy, snowy day here so this is perfect watch. Beautiful and crazy story, love it. The works of physicist Kip Thorne inspired this film and the film "Contact". Also the robots names pay homage and r anagrams, one being KIPP is for Kip Thorne, TARS is an anagram for STAR, etc. Well supposedly. Love a film that makes u think. Films like "Circle" 2015 a psychological horror-thriller film and "Cube" 1997. If u havent seen them I recommend, if u have let the Q and A begin, lol. I'm not going to lie the robot was my favorite character in the movie. He was hilarious. Thanks for recommending but after watching my sixth sense reaction, you can tell that I cannot do horror at all😂😂 Anything scarier than that movie and I will turn it off

I believe you missed out on dr man saying science discovered that the last thing we see before dying is our children , thus he died and he saw his daughter and beside his daughter is having her last moments before dying as well and she saw her dad finally before she passes away in addition to the colors of things being white like the suit and space ship at the start but then towards the end its all black ,,,black reference to grief and sorrow ,at least its how I analyzed the movie after watching it tons of times
