Am I the only one who liked the interviewer? He was quiet and respectful and didn’t try to interrupt or speak over Stephen and just fed him questions and let the genius speak for himself.
No, you are not. He had the roadmap of what they needed to cover in the time allotted and without ever cutting Stephen short he kept them on it and moving forward. He had done his homework too. He knew what was important and what people wanted to hear. Stephen didn't leave a lot of need for follow up. He was articulate yet affable, and he didn't interject his own personality into it. He was not intended to be the comedic counterpoint to Stephen. A tough spot to be in. Job well done, I say.
Agreed. This interview was very insightful. Stephen Colbert is always so honest and intelligent in his responses. Love his show
Stephen Colbert, and all those involved with the show, keep me sane.
We have to thank Stephen for this Master Class on writing.
The wit, energy, conciseness and speed with which Stephen talks shows he's a brilliant man. My ears and my brain are smoking after listening to him.
There's no show with more wit and integrity than this one, truly, and the process is so sophisticated, well put together Mr. Colbert
Bless your heart
Stephen has to be one of the most brilliant people in the world. I am stunned at how quickly he thinks and responds to questions. He uses his brain on his feet with his heart. I also think he is the best political commentator we have. I love hearing him sing and watching him dance too.
Andrea I think he should moderate one of the debates in 20/20
Andrea He's really not. He's a corporate stooge, who knows the Dems are wormongers and hypocrites, just like the republicans are. America is a mess.
Anjuli Kamins You need impartial people to host debates. Preferably someone who despises ALL POLITICIANS.....They're all evil.
YES. Did you see the duet he did with Jimmy Fallon? I was floored. It was a comedy schtick, but his voice is impressive. Dude can actually sing :D
And his metaphors in this interview are so spot-on and effortless.
This man deserves so much respect. And the whole team behind his show. Such an incredible, legendary, historic man.
I rely on this man to keep my sanity in check!
SC is an outlet for our expression. He says what we feel. He feels what we feel.
A Goddamn national treasure!
I hope Stephen always has a voice and a camera. It was also great to see how sincere he was about his staff - praise to the writers and other staff as well.
Colbert has a special aura
and...INTEGRITY...for cryin' out loud!!!
Love the intelligence and warmth of this man from the uk 🇬🇧👏
Karrie pink what do you mean from the uk? Is he a Brit like me?😊😊😊
So nice to hear a decent human being speaking frankly
I'm an atheist - and Stephen Colbert is my favorite Catholic! Never miss a monologue.
That's exactly what I thought. With all what's going on around this was very comforting
indeed ^.^
Get out and vote for non-criminals that can speak mostly the truth.
you can vote every day with the choices you make and mostly with the things you buy : >
We are so lucky to have Stephen Colbert as a late night comedy host. His intelligence, his charm and his wit makes it possible to go through these weird and depressing times. Thank you Stephen Colbert...we are grateful to you and all your team. Fantastic Job!

We are so lucky to have observers like Colbert and Jon Stewart on the scene at this troubling time, carrying on the tradition of what Will Rogers was doing nearly a century earlier. This wonderful interview answers the question, "Why does he need all these vacations?" Colbert also makes it clear that the show is a team effort, and one that he leads.
He did a great job on election night. Stephen save my life...
As a permanent resident who cannot vote, yet has lived in this country for many years, I was literally in a state of shock election night. I have since that night gravitated toward Stephen Colbert because there is comedic intellect in his delivery which on a daily basis one is desperately in need of to make sense of the sheer madness that occurs. The White House is 21.3 miles literally away and it’s sobering to think that this craziness is made easier because of this thoughtful, smart, comedic man.
kim clarke - I'm sorry - it must be SO frustrating not to be able to vote when so many with the privilege don't use it and so many others are clearly too stupid to make smart choices, especially at times like this.
What makes you feel entitled to vote?
I so hear you. What a horrible night that was. The first time I did go through the five stages of grief. So devastating, especially knowing HRC wouldn’t ever have another opportunity. Wow :(
Hey fellow immigrant here that just became citizen a couple of months ago. Out of curiosity, how long you been a resident for? How much until you can apply for citizenship?
I was touched by how much Stephen seemed to be emotionally uplifted by the audience and doing the show, saying at one point that he needed the show as much or even more than they needed him. He repeatedly came back to this point of how good it made him feel to do the show, and how much it gave back to him despite the amazing amount of work and hassle that can go into putting it together. I love this kind of truthful people connection.
Stephen is both a brilliant interviewee and an interviewer. Such well thought out as well as thought provoking answers.
This is an excellent record of who this delightful man is in actuality. His intelligence and humor keeps us informed every day in these horrific times.
Agree. credit to the excellent NYT interviewer Sopan Deb too.:) 👍
When the Colbert Report first aired I was around 14 years old living in a very small, very conservative Kentucky town. I was reaching to find people who thought more like I did instead of what I was constantly surrounded by. I got soo into the Colbert Report and have been just drawn to this man ever since. I'm now 26 and still look to him as sort of a father figure lol. Just seems like such a genuine person and sharp to boot! Keep doing you Mr. Colbert, much of us would be lost in this crazy political world without you!
You couldn't have picked a better senior figure to help 'ground' you in this "crazy" world. Mr. Colbert is a man worthy of respect and time.
Just found Colbert this past year here in a smallish Kentucky town. Not many of us here
In the TV president era, Stephan Colbert is our moral and emotional president.
Tilley Tilley....Colbert... MORAL~~?? You are grossly uninformed and misled!! Colbert's saying that Trump's mouth is Putin's "cock holster" on tv is hardly the actions of a moral person. Vicious and unfounded personal attacks on Trump's or anyone's family is immoral. Listen carefully to what Colbert is saying and the pompous, self aggrandizing way he says it. This nattering nabob actually believes he's performing a needed public service. Matching Colbert with the NY Times is apt. Both are washed up progressive losers bitterly clinging to their glory days. They're like the buggy whip industry but can't accept it,
lol wut
ZigzagWanderer
You have a right to your opinion. I totally see him as a necessity to keep people that are mad at this president from having emotional meltdowns. He is medicine
ZigZagWanderer - Colbert is a hell of a lot more moral than Trump. And did he say he believes he is performing a public service? Well, if being entertaining is a public service, then he is indeed performing a public service.
ZigzagWanderer ...you have an interesting manner of judging morality. And interesting that you choose to quote two-thirds of Spiro Agnew’s phrase describing the 70’s media, those nattering nabobs of negativism. Agnew! Mr. Nolo Contendere himself! Currently residing in the landfill of ‘american’ history! Where I think your hero is going to occupy, sooner or later. We’ll just have to wait and see how soon.
He is so smitten with his wife, so cute ❤️
As someone from the UK I'm so glad they put so much of his show up on UA-cam. It really is a delight to wake up to in the morning.
I love stephen (and hearing him say "fuck it" just makes me love him even more)
Stephen makes me laugh. I like he makes fun of those deplorables. His joke is always subtle. And he really lightens up my day.
*"Today I spoke with my wife... on the phone (smirks). It was really nice... (muffled laughter).*
“Occipital Rolodex” has to be one of the best analogies I’ve heard in a very long time.
His entire explanation about the monologue being an “Emotional event” is so brilliant and sensitive to how to deliver the insane reality the US is going through.
Brilliant, sharp man and comedian.
When he says " you get to see me" I couldn't agree more. I remember that first show ..he was all in character... funny and intelligent but nervous and hiding a bit. He had George Clooney as his first guest. He and his team have evolved at lot. (Stephen you rock....just being you!) I esp. loved seeing him interact with Tiffany Hadish and Nicki Minaj and Helen Mirren!
stephanie brown:" ... I remember that first show ..he was all in character."
I laughed my head off at his appearance - in character - before a congressional panel:
ua-cam.com/video/UTDCgOvVOx8/v-deo.html
His way of saying "You guys are SO stupid to subpoena me here." They could have cited him for contempt but they didn't know how to handle that. Guy has balls the size of coconuts.
@@stevemorrill1524
This is one of the best interviews I have seen of Colbert for a while.
he really is a true professional and a very smart guy
Stephen is really the perfect man. I can just feel the crazy amount of respect rushing through my brain for this man. The kind-hearted nature, the genuineness, the maturity, the fierce, fierce intelligence. My god. Just, too good.
Stephan Colbert you are so appreciated! People need to laugh so much right now!! Thank you so much for being a much needed salve fo America! You are a genius! 🙏💜!
Paula Brown whats funny about this man?
respect and appreciation from eastern europe. i do not miss a show.
Jeez ya didn’t even spell his name right ! Some appreciation...
Paula Brown Stephen's a class act, and always has been. He has this subtle and ironic style to him, i love him.
His take on emotional honesty is spot on. The show from the Daily Show that Jon Stewart did right after he returned from Gaza is one I will remember forever specifically because he was upset and angry and he let it show.
I hate that there’s not a lot of Daily Show videos on UA-cam. Do you know where I can watch it?
It looks so slick when you watch it, but that’s how you know it’s a shit ton of blood, sweat and tears.
Stephen Colbert has my utter respect and appreciation- he’s such a huge voice of this generation ♥️♥️♥️
and era!
Stephen can be goofy and silly on the show....but especially in a context like this interview, you really get a sense for just how ferociously intelligent and serious he is as a human being. He's done his homework on a _lot_ of subjects. There's something a wee bit intimidating about his intellect....and I love it. I adore people who are in the top 1% in terms of intelligence....and I think it's clear Stephen is in that echelon. Much respect...
avedic Intelligence is very sexy💫
You can see it when he has politicians on the show and he’s interviewing them. You can see his intelligence. I love his show
avedic watch his interview with bill o Reilly. It’s fucking hilarious
Temuchin Jackson you know capitalizing words don’t just make them true. I know you’ve been conditioned this way but it’s not how it works.
I think someone should check on Temuchin. He appears to have suffered from a stroke.
I respect Stephen doing impactful work. Comic relief to ease the frustration of this difficult time “surfing the 🏄🏾♀️ madness” priority level headedness & moral compass “this too shall pass”
I love how comfortable he always acts.
Honestly, one of the greatest human beings alive. What a legend.
It was the night he made fun of 45s tie that captured my attention. I needed to focus my disgust and fear. Stephen spoke for me as he delicately fingered the long tie. I was able to laugh at the foolishness instead of dread it. I've been tuning in every day since then and Stephens quick mind and open tenderness, his bashful flirting, and the brilliant improvisation are cathartic for those of us struggling to express our disappointment. Now, I'm writing a book for my grand children, about my father's immigration from Italy to escape fascism.
🙂
What a lovely comment. Good luck on your book!
Good. Your grand children will need that book so they will know what to do when they need to immigrate to Italy to escape fascism. The only problem is the rest of the world will probably not welcome Americans into their countries now that we are becoming an isolationist country.
Your comment speaks volumes on your talent as a writer. Great luck on your book, Ill be watching. Truly an interesting subject matter, and country, for me. Best of luck!
Goodie Andy Steven didn't make fun of the content of the inaugural address so much as he had fun with a long red tie that was like the one 45 wore. I wanted to laugh. He was ribbing so good natured ly.
Yes, I would definitely watch all skits from "how it should have ended" election night!
Stephen Colbert is such an awesome, caring, educated and funny man. He deserves to be at the top of late night shows.
Stephen Colbert is wonderful man. I want him to be happy and successful forever in life 😁
What an amazing and demanding schedule . Stephen's commitment to truth and humanity drives him and seems to lift his comedian talents to the quickness and sharpness that is happening every night on his show . His genuine friendly demeanor has earned everyone's trust and has led to great honest and open interviews. He is today's best late night host and possibly of all time. His viewers love him and look to him for the truth and a shot against poor behavors. He is a hero for the sole .
Stay safe and healthy Stephen Colbert ... We need you !
Soul* 😜😉
Well, that proves he's no prompter-jockey. He seems a humble guy.
Stephen Colbert = Prozac for this political climate
Intelligent, Smart, Human, Fluent and Funny 😎
Love Stephen Colbert! He keeps it real, his staff (team) are working through a tough time in are growth in the digital age.
He is seriously the main person who is helping me cope through these Extraordinary Scary Time's
Jason Allen now *that's* scary
miraculixx How about not judging someone you don't know
Michal Perach how did I judge? Non intention
Jason Allen I feel the same.💙🦋
Stephen’s good but Bill Maher’s better.
I love the description of the day. What a gorgeous 6 hour process, from the car ride into the city to re-writing the opening monolog. Thanks for the glimpse, Stephen.
#TheLateShow
Yes, agreed, really loved the detailed description of daily process.
His show got me through the past two years
I wouldn't have minded a couple of hours more of this. Stephen is wonderful, and a real American that kinda give you a bit of hope in the face of these current dark times of the Trump Mafia.
An hour of Colbert. Amazing. I wish he did more of this sort of longform interview.
I went to the taping of one of his shows - genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever been to! He’s such a down to earth guy who makes sure those in the audience are having a good time. Would definitely recommend getting tickets if you can!
PhantomKaratOfficial I’ve been too! He’s so damn smart!!
He’s still humble. Also articulate, down to earth and honest while being very open. Yeah I look up
I appreciate his honesty and some great insights.
As an Aussie who grew up on great English comedy of the Goons, Milligan, Cook and Moore, & Python and who has followed Stewart and Colbert for the last seven years it is great to see the U S create quality, intelligent, ironic comedy with self deprecating manner and humility........Hope he offers a cathartic 'meal' for the nation which as to deal with a democracy which appears, from the outside, to have turned into a corrosive 'duocracy'....
Yay for the Goons and Python!!! Friggin' classics, Mate!!
"I'm not sure i can dance on the edge of that volcano"... My definition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Many thanks to the truly marvelous NYT and the also fine UA-cam for letting us have this event in full, and help us get through the next few weeks while wonderful Stephen Colbert is on vacation.
I simply would not have coped with Trump becoming president (still cannot believe it) without Stephen - and I live in the UK!!! Bravo Stephen, you are MY hero!!! x
Dennis Caxton- I agree! I’m Canadian and I can hardly stand this trump situation. Colbert is brilliant, I never miss his show
Nomadic fanadic
I too am a UK... I enjoy and have this man every morning.. I hate Sundays and Monday.. cause we don't get him till first thing in the morning...
UK people, the majority of us here in the States didn’t vote for him. We’re living a nightmare here. I can hardly believe it’s my country.
@@misslanapford9169 Yes! I'm from Germany and watch the show live at 5:30am. On the weekend I always look forward to Tuesday. He brightens up my whole day. :)
What a lovely man. so much respect for Stephen Colbert. He's so authentic, honest and smart.
And sexy 😜
A truly honorable gentleman with brains and compassion. You are so important for our time. Thank you for the laughs!😉💖
The fact that he shares part of himself is what makes him special. The way he shares everything from his Catholic faith, love of Dungeons and Dragons, affinity for South Carolina, and his moral compass is what makes him accessible as a host.
A fascinating and engaging discussion. Colbert has a sharp intellect- I admire his talent.
such a brilliant and sensitive mind. yes, he does influence how people see the world. in such trying times, he's about the only way i can take my news....
Exactly! We get the news, which is usually devastating, softened by Stephen and his writers. A blessing.
I am one of his biggest fans! Such a talented and articulate man.
He seems like such a genuine and interesting person to work for.
A community leader indeed, with our hearts on our sleeves
Great talk! Colbert is just such a real human being.
He's pretty fake.
The interview with Nicki Minaj was in my opinion the absolute best ever from LSSC, he was completely flummoxed by her insanely free spirit and i was in awe of their chemistry 😎
Interesting. Colbert is just so...all round awesome.
It seems to me that a talk show host has more social and political responsibilities than government officials. What is up with that?
Oh my God ...love Stephan Colbert!!! 😂
Stephen is such a fantastic guy! Professional, moral and funny.
His heart is in the right place, but he is far from moral. He had his chips too invested in Hilary and rather than covering the news as he usually does, he double-down on his decision, and pursued to make a career making fun of the sitting president. I used to believe that he defended and respected his spiritual life, a place mind you where he gets his morals, and turned it into a laughing stock. Now he accepts the very thing the bible rejects which is sin. That's why I stopped watching his show. It became an intolerable routine of making fun of the president.
When a president gives such great material how can u ignore it? Two words, Space Force.
Space Force ain't to crazy... Not when China has made a hypersonic aircraft and Russia has a hypersonic weapon. The Pentagon Chief Engineer in Huntsville, AL at AMCOM literally says: "The only way to defend against the hypersonic weapons is by a weaponized satellite, or a space weapon."
Mighty Madrid I disagree with you. I think he really feels trump is dangerous, and jokes about his actions because he finds them stupid. I don't think it's a calculation or an act. He really has zero respect for trump, and one can see why. But I am so glad to see people who critisize him in a respectful discussion. In a free society it is important to hear different opinions, and not just exchane curses!
I'm still waiting for the war Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmell and Jimmy Fallon all the late night clowns have been making jokes about and saying is gonna happen... These late night hosts are such shit show biased clowns... Like Bill Maher saying: "I hope we get a recession, so we can end Trump's presidency." ua-cam.com/video/BiEbmp54Lrc/v-deo.html Guess what? The economy is booming because of dereg, the EPA has set restrictions on it now and small business optimism is up to 50 year highs.... Want to know a joke? The EPA classified mud as a pollutant! Hell they are going after New Castle in Delaware for having some clay mud fall into a stream under the Clean Water Act www.delawareonline.com/story/news/2017/11/04/epa-sues-new-castle-salvage-yard-operator-latest-chapter-delawares-toxic-legacy/814523001/ Now the left-wing clowns like Colbert are cheering on San Francisco making it illegal for businesses to provide lunch to their employees for free www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2018/07/26/san-francisco-has-news-future-techies-your-days-free-lunch-may-numbered/842681002/,.. Like what a joke don't you think? I'm sure you will go Trump uses bad language it hurts my feelings... I go so? Hell remember President Obama calling Kayne "a jackass" after the Taylor Swift incident ua-cam.com/video/pX_-Nd_kOKI/v-deo.html, or when Obama said "I'm gonna kick the shit out of those assholes at Deep Water Horizon." www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/06/07/gulf.oil.obama/index.html When Speaker Boehner and President Obama met interns/staffers that were there said the multiple meetings: "It turned into screaming matches and they would throw around 'shit, fuck, damn, asshole, bitch' and all the 4 letter words." www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/12/31/president-obamas-strong-endorsement-of-cursing/?noredirect=on Yeah Obama didn't poop tweet stupid shit at 4 in the morning, but he raised my taxes, increased regs, and had a dirty fucking mouth around the people he worked.... SO all in all 1 is a used car salesman aka he's nice to your face but talks shit behind your back as a sucker aka President Obama... At least President Trump is a piece of shit up to my face, but hey regs are down, economy is booming and my taxes are down 3% and my state is talking about lowering their tax rates so they don't lose people because the SALT tax deduction being removed by the tax reform act of 2018... Thank you RNC congress!
Wit, satire, sarcasm(light), intelligent, fast, informed......a reflection.....The best......
Having Stephen Colbert succeed David Letterman was a brilliant decision.
Eh, not really. I miss the Colbert Report. Nobody can do what he did there and there hasn't been a watchable replacement, but there are plenty of late night shows to pick from. He brings his own voice, but I'd still love for him to be in character. My favorites were The Word and Better Know a District.
ALSO, there's a serious lack of show hosts warning about the GODLESS KILLING MACHINES: BEARS. Nobody picked up the mantle and we're all in danger now!
I'm with you. I hate regular talk shows ever since Letterman left - and the Colbert Repor(t) was so endlessly satisfying. I would even sit through the (new) Daily Show if he'd come back.
Thank god! Since November 2016, he is therapeutic for me. I needed to have humor. To make humor out of toxic shock is truly a gift.
Sharon Liu absolutely!! I haven’t missed a single show since the RNC
Bitfan 2011? libtard pedos? Oh my god, he called liberals libtards, so original! Probably thinks those on the left are automatically liberal. Forgets those on the far right voted for Trump who stands accused of raping a thirteen year old, and supported Roy Moore, super pedo. Probably goes around calling liberals pedos to deflect from the fact that they're a pedo who supports pedos.
Thank you Stephen Colbert.
The nicki Minaj bit two days ago was hilarious 😂
yeah, she loves him, so I love her now :)
I love that Stephen made a point to say she is very smart and probably was a subscriber of the NYT, after the interviewer 'hinted' that she was not the audience's cup of tea. Nicki will have a even bigger crush on him when she sees this😄
I love how he stands up for Nicki when the guy takes a stab saying "these are New York Times Subscribers." :'D
Me too.
Agreed!
Right I was annoyed he even said that!
The best thing to EVER happen to television. Period
The way he talks about Trump's election night is so gratifying. This whole country....the smart half were in despair that night, and the morons were celebrating. I really respect Stephen's intelligence and good heart. You can tell he genuinely, genuinely cares about women and people of color and just people in general regardless of labels. He's a major intellect on the intersection of politics and culture that helps give our society insight and peace.
Matt Clark. Of that 'smart half', I think only maybe 10% which would make it 5% in the overall picture (sorry for the math) that are really willing to 'fight' for change, or 'fight the good fight' as they say. Whereas on the other side, the bat shit crazy side, I'd guess 80% of them get out and fight for their idiotic views. I'm hoping for a tougher, stronger, 'smart half' in the coming elections. The other side cheats and 'buys' opinions/votes. Get out and fight, and make your country great again.
I agree. I am not American, but I like to keep informed about world events. I understand people not liking HC, but sometimes, unfortunately, elections are about choosing between the awful and the unpalatable. It seems like the people who are the most rabid in the coverage of rallies, are the ones who have the most to lose.
On the bright side, it seems (to this outsider at least) that this fiasco has really inspired a lot of people to get more involved, to fund-raise, donate, volunteer, run for office, vote, and inspire others to do the same, all of which are good things.
Being the spouse of a victim of sexual assaults made election night especially awful.
Zachary. Nice one kid, where did you read that, on the Alex Jones website. Now go play your Nintendo like a good little boy and leave this conversation to the adults.
Zachary Alexander What did liberals do that was so offensive? I'll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created social security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, and the Clean Water Act. What did Conservatives do? They opposed every one of those programs. Every one. So when you try to hurl the word 'liberal' at my feet, as if it were dirty, something to run away from, something that I should be ashamed of, it won't work, because I will pick up that label and wear it as a badge of honor.
fantastic hearing him take us through a typical day
Lots of comments here.... but UA-cam put it on the bottom of the list after ive been subscribed to Steven Colbert's show for 3 years. This is a must watch interview. 🔥🔥🔥
This interview/talk was absolutely fantastic. Just brilliant. So informative, fun and honest. Amazing!
Stephen Colbert is the consummate gentleman.
AND BRAVE.... NOT THAT MATTERS ANY MORE ....... OR DOES IT??
He certainly is
this guy is so important for democracy :)

Shills are never important
Jordan - everyone you just mentioned are all Leftist shills. No wonder the left are all crazy if these are their role models; ex-actors and entertainers who've finally found out how to make some money. They make a fortune off fueling the Trump Derangement Syndrome which turns to violence on the streets. It was a telling question - what would you be doing if Hillary won - I'll tell you what - as none of them are very funny they would all be off the air by now waiting tables.
Colbert says he needs the audience and the sense of community during difficult times that we go through as a nation. I hope he knows that we need him too. Colbert has gotten me through some politically difficult times by making me smile.
Stephen Colbert's sharp humor, broad intelligence, and human kindness will serve as an invaluable public record for historians to reference about this time, for generations to come.
@ Ad Rock
Apart from the bleeped words. Censorship is alive and sick in the USA.
I have a great amount of admiration and respect for Stephen and his team, because they have made the show unlike any other and it's spectacular every day!
By far my favorite Late Night show to watch and re-watch all the time. 👏👏👏
And yes, I have crush on Stephen (because of course I do, he's so charming) 😳❤️
Anyway - thanks for this interview, it's fantastic!!! 🙌
This was really interesting to watch/listen to. Thank you for the fearless authenticity :)
Stephen Colbert takes the headlines from the f*ckery of this administration and makes it easier for me to stomach them. His show is therapeutic.
Thank you for this talk and for posting it! And thank you to Stephen Colbert for being who he is!
I'm so moved by Stephen's intellect and strength. I'm so glad I watched this.
Mr. Stephen Colbert, I'm writing this without thinking first, having just watched--no, absorbed--your interview prompt-reply hour with Sopan Deb. That was the first monologue of genuine reveal I've seen of laying out the inner bones, flesh and tendons of a late night show's rhythm, tempo, tutti chorus, and aria solos. How did the inner workings of the late night show as you as host experience it--in time--never get told before as a story. You're a mechanical mastermind of time and energy and emotion more than what I'd realized. I think the most powerful element you bring to the show is your trust of all your teams, and your many references to ask Chris. That was so genuinely collaborative. I can see why it is that on stage you're able to give, it's because you trust. Thank you for that lesson. You trust the people you work with and the process you've created together. I remember when David Letterman said about your being the next host of CBS Late Night: "This time they got it right, they don't always get it right, but this time I think they did." (I'm paraphrasing). That has stuck with me; how did Dave know that you'd be awesome stepping out of the Colbert Show character and be able to find this muscle to emotionally be real and allow yourself to be the person people encounter when they turn on their television at 11:35, or their devices; it's because emotionally you listen with that comedic bone that guides you to trust that what you'll find funny probably the audience will find funny too, no?
Can this moderator be MORE stiffed? Colbert is amazing
Stephen is so eloquent, he amazes me every time I see him. So gutsy .
Apart from Stephen's professionalism and intelligence, I must congratulate the moderator. The questions aren't cliché, they're concise, to the point, relevant and keep Colbert talking about what we want to hear.
Super funny and super smart. Also a decent human being. Awesome!
So I know no one sane reads the UA-cam comments on their videos, but Steven, that election night monologue really helped give me a sense of catharsis for the election. It was to that election what a funeral is to a death. Thank you.
Stephanie Doolos don't worry, some non-crazies read it too. I feel the dame, I DID NOT know how to handle election night, I just sat there with my jaw agape. I think that Stephen is truly a voice for our generation, maybe we should pitch a Biden/Colbert ticket for 20/20. It would at least be the emotional balm I need.
@DoubleJ
this is a sane polite and smart people gathering.
go away imbecile!
@@atruebrit6452 I completely understand the impulse, but I'm going to recommend against feeding the troll. Anyone who feels the need to go through UA-cam comments for a video they don't like looking for people to call pathetic has already lost their own argument, and isn't worth bothering with.
@Stephanie Doolos
on the other hand, if everyone would react, who knows, maybe stupidity and lying (see the stable genius in chief) would not be praised. ... wishful thinking in my part, i know.
I would like for all decent people out there to be outspoken, to get out from their complacent warm personal space and to push the extremists, the liars, the slime back in the hole it came out of. All of them, both left and right. unfortunately in the US there is no "decent people's party".
I think I'm fairly sane or as much as one can be I hear you
What an interesting glimpse behind the curtain. Thank you.
