Lisa did treat and talked down to usman like he was her son. I see why so many got upset and stated that she treated him like a “slave.” It’s horrible and embarrassing as well as heart breaking. I don’t know how anyone could live with themself being that rude or harsh to another on a constant basis. It would destroy my soul. 🥺😢

Yeah, I really hate that. And not even just the culture but even the amenities. It's one thing to be confused or fuck up a cultural expectation. That will happen by accident sometimes. But amenities? I mean.. you're literally shaming someone for not having as much as you do.
I've been to places where the standard of living is SUPER different from the west. And I DO notice it, but I find it so interesting. Like "Ok, how do I do this?" and i only bring it up if there is some really odd looking shower or something and I literally have no idea how to use it. Then I just say "Hey, I haven't seen one like this, can you show me how to use it?" I don't know why some people get so freaked out because something isn't up to their own local standard. Like once I had to use a public toilet in this small village and the toilet was literally like some brick structure with holes in the ground (not floor. Ground. There was no floor) and the shit was piled everywhere, and sure, that was pretty nasty, ngl. But I still didn't bitch about it. Those people in that village all have to use it because some don't have their own bathrooms. And who is going to clean that? Where do they take it? I mean... Yeah. Like, be grateful you don't have to poo twice a day at Shit Mountain or whatever.

Yikes, so.. yeah. I have a couple of thoughts about this. So when I was living in China, really early on, I went for a walk one night in Shanghai and got myself lost. Most people didn't speak my languages, and I didn't speak Mandarin or even Cantonese. So I had to find my way back home without much help. Thankfully, I had taken a picture of my hotel on the phone, and people were able to help me find out the right direction from pointing (Thanks fam, it actually really helped.) So when you're in a really foreign country, a place you've never been where everything is kind of alien to your experience at first, it's not always advisable to be alone until you learn the culture and the rules.
Granted, ok, they speak English in Nigeria.. I think. I think most people speak English. But it's still a brand new environment for her.
I suspect Usman was off talking to his friend. And I think he needed to because he's about to marry a mean shrew and i know if my friend were about to marry Lisa, I'd have some stern words for that friend too.
But I do KIND OF see why she was scared, if she was actually scared.
Last year during the pandemic here in California, my hot water heater broke. 😂😭 I can laugh about it because we (my sister, myself and daughter) made it fun and joked a lot about it. To buy a good water heater and have it installed it’s about $1200-1600 in California. We were taking tamale and pasta pots baths. 😂😂😂 thank goodness it was during the summer months (took us over a month to save up) but we would heat the water sometimes via the stove. I’m still called “pasta hair” by my daughter but we laughed about “showering” and screaming from cold water and the fun we had. No matter what circumstances or struggles, it always depends on your attitude about it…and perhaps the good company you carry along with you.

In all fairness i accidentally locked him away from his litter box.. if he does that again i'll take him to the vet for sure 🙏🏽

I agree with you about showering using a bucket and the density of the water. I’m from the Philippines and we use to shower with a bucket even if we have a shower head.
I prefer that too when I travel overseas vs. the shower head where I used to always get shocked. 😂 That whole wire mess always scares me. The water heater, too, in some places is set way too high/hot and I have gotten scalded, too. 😂😭
It's Lisa's whole aura. I don't blame her for being surprised or even asking what the bucket is for, but it's such a small compromise. That room might not be luxurious, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I am a 55 year old woman from USA . I stayed with my Grandparents in West Virginia back in the early 70’s there was no hot water unless you heated it over the wood stove. So you learned to conserve. I was also taught to respect our Mother Earth to protect her and your partner is your other half.. you do not disrespect them as it is disrespectful to yourself. I do agree she is just a number , but if you have nothing in common then this is an issue. She can’t even give this person she wants to be her mate the respect of trying out new things.. we all know this is a green card thing.. is the GC worth this? Is she paying your way?? If so you are selling your self worth .

True, when I met my boyfriend, he explained how water was so hard to get. It could be life or death. He is from Bosnia and lived through the Balkan war. We showered together most times🤭
I will say this. While I agree it's better for Lisa to simply calm the heck down and use the bucket, if it was that important to her to stay in an American hotel, then she should have called ahead and made sure there were American amenities available.

I have never wanted to control anyone including my man. Mutual respect and courtesy is important. I do my best to take care of the things I can so when he gets home after a long day he can come home to a clean house, great home cooked meal and relax. Balance is important. We need time together and time with others plus alone time for that is when we grow. Putting a ball and chain on a man does not work. Time spent with me is because he wants to not out if fear of me turning into a Lisa
