They also don't seem to understand that "influencer" means to guide the actions of others. In other words, "to manipulate." Marketing has been manipulating people for as long as it's existed and doesn't promote free thinking individuals because its nature is to drive a particular narrative in order to increase sales of a product. In the case of social media, the product influencers are selling is the number of views on a video in most instances. Easy to achieve that by being controversial, posting hate comments, click bait titles, and generally going against the grain. It's a sad state of affairs.

The social media world that children have access to (yes even an 18 year old is still a child) they can access without your permission and be influenced strictly by others who are "selling" them a way of life that seems more appealing. Of course, they hear "you don't have to work" and want that to be true. Of course they hear "pass the buck to others and make others do it instead" This isn't just parents..it's group think of a whole generation.

I'm retired with a pension. She will not have that. I work part time in a specialty cheese shop in a major grocer. I've worked with many people her age who have no idea how to work hard or care about the product they provide. It's sad that I care more while paying more than half of what I earn in taxes. They will quit the second they are asked to work. I wonder it this is the result of liberal policies pushing excessive minimum wages, living wages, and free college? Why bother if you don't have any incentive to make any effort? Why bother after high school if you have another free four years without any kind of responsibility? This isn't gen Z, it's lazy G.

Come on now, Dr Phil, nobody in late millenials and younger can possibly afford property AND kids in these hard economic times.
They're striving for work-life balance instead, because these basic life achievements, these milestones to work towards, are simply not THERE anymore for the less-than-privileged.
The stress-related strokes and heart attacks in those who try anyway, will also be devastating.

She expresses a desire to become a social media influencer to avoid a traditional 9-5 job. However, she may not recognize that many of the most successful influencers often engage in extensive work hours, sometimes exceeding the typical 9-5, to maintain their platforms, produce content, and manage their brands effectively.
She also says that employers use fear to motivate their employees. But how will she deal with online trolls, doxxers, and stalkers affecting her self-image and platform? Those threats are much worse than a boss at work.

They would HAVE TO do some work...or not graduate. Supervised from a distance, only intervening for instruction, not physical help. No power, no internet, no phone, no TV, no company. Make them self aware.

I have my criticisms of modern society but they stem from how we become too reliant on it and if it crashes what will do if we can’t survive without it? But living off grid, for example, is hard work. Survival is hard work. There is no avoidance of hard work no matter which direction you go in. To be self reliant completely is asking for more work not less. A 9-5 is much easier than living off the land.

There are 2 types of adult people in this country. People who are assets and people who are liabilities. If you work and pay taxes you are an asset. If you don’t work enough to support yourself and must rely upon some sort of assistance you are a liability. It should be an embarrassment to you and your family if you are an able bodied person who is a liability.

The factor i really object to with the GEN-Z attitude of "get by doing as little as possible" is that one learns, extends, grows and develops oneself by taking on things one is not comfortable with. Learning, in its essence, is an uncomfortable activity because one needs to bridge the gap between ones current knowledge and skill base to a higher and broader knowledge and skill base. If you ALWAYS want to remain in your comfort zone you will NEVER EVER grow and develop to you full potential - or even a degree of your full potential.
What a waste of a life, as far as i am concerned - especially if you also become a wining, moaning demanding oxygen-thief in the process!

Exactly. Gabrielle is very eloquent and poised, but I'm stunned by her utter lack of awareness and real world work experience. You can tell she's never had to manage team. The second you've got two employees whose calendars clash on general principle -- under the guise of "work-life balance" -- it's over. You don't have a team anymore, and as a manager you soon won't have a job anymore.
Work is called "work" for a reason. And companies are set up the way they are for a reason. Someone has to be in charge and someone has to take orders. Otherwise, nothing will get done and the business won't thrive.

Fun fact. In history, the older generation almost always believe the younger generation is lazy and will doom us all, yet we still are here today. It is because the younger generation doesn't conform to what the older generation think of in terms of hard work. Technology advances exponentially, which influences the way people work. Eventually the world adapts. Gen-Z will eventually also find the generations, younger than them, lazy and/or annoying when they grow old.
