No offence to SJP, but Kim Cattrall has always been the actress who has stood out for me on that show (it's not really my kind of show in the first place). Every scene she has, she steals it. Excellent actress.

Carrie was the most annoying fucking character of all time... She was like a grown up toddler, spoiled brat.... Always getting so much love from her friends, and Aiden that truly loved her, begging pathetically for money from Charlotte while buying 40,000 worth of shoes, and it still was never enough...

Her character also had good qualities. Without mistakes she'd be perfect, and that would be unhuman. And none of tha has anything to do with SJP's acting skills, which are very good.
I’m only 22, but Kim made me change my mindset on aging. Knowing that there are beautiful, sexy, and confident women like Kim/Samantha out there has made me no longer fear the “over the hill”

SO true.The facial expressions of Samantha when I rewatch some clips are exquisite. Such natural comical ability. It does not immediately scream comedy, which is when it's comedy at its finest imo.

I agree. Felt so when the show originally aired, and unlike with some other shows you revisit many years later this hasn't changed for me. Miranda was a realistic strong woman, Samantha a fantasy.
It took some time, but I grew to deeply appreciate Charlotte. She was unapologetically plain - which is what many of us are. She didn’t need to stand out, obsess over designer stuff, date a lot of people or have a lot of sex but loved her friends that lived differently too. She was meek and lady-like in the traditional sense, but was quite assertive when things mattered to her.

True and if they did what friends did with the cast having them all get paid equally and shown her some respect she would have probably have been involved in the HBO reboot. They have shown on the show that women can have the same freedoms as men and not be labeled whores and too bad that as actresses they didn't show that each woman was equal and should have been paid equally.
People often say Carrie is the normal one, the grounded one. But I always thought Carrie was the most selfish and neurotic. She was always making drama where there wasn't any. The other 3 knew who they were and what they wanted.

I think carrie was the normal one in terms of how most people are in general, dysfunctional and self sabotaging under the illusion of self righteousness. There are very view people who are realists and live their truth like Samantha thats why she was everybody's favorite character. This show was quite dynamic
I love all of the characters like really love them. But it sucked that they were not able to include a character who is a POC. It is necessary to be inclusive, but in the writing/plot sense it would be more interesting and more broad like they can explore many depths and issues because a woman of color would have a more different experience than what the characters had.
It is television but Carry never was grounded. Carry always wanted it all, when she had it, she did not want it anymore. The first time when I saw SATC on tv I thought Big was an asshole. The second, third...:-) time I watched it on DVD I realized Carry was the asshole. She was complicated, selffish, egoistic and so on...I loved her style the most but as a friend: NO! My order of friendship..Sam the perfect friend, than Charlotte, than maybe Miranda, but I definitly would not have a friend like Carry.
Haha that's the thing about Kim Catrall, she broke barriers by refusing to settle for old maid/mother roles just because she was over 40. Good for her, Samantha will always be a legendary character. No one else could play her
I love love LOVE Kim Cattrall. The fact that she’s not doing the reboot actually shows that she’s the truest to her character and the series on a whole. So graceful. Samantha Jones was the main character

It's funny because when I was younger and watched SATC for the first time it was all about Carrie for me. As an adult watching it back Carrie is the LEAST appealing character. Hands down Samantha & Miranda carried that show and are by far the most interesting/complex characters on that show. Such a joy to watch those 2.

@@Serena-ch8xl SATC is not a dramatic show, it’s a sitcom. There was need for silliness and levity, maybe some immaturity that Carrie and Charlotte brought to the show. I think the four balance each other perfectly.

Cattrall is a very good actress. You can see her talent from just this clip alone. Her natural demeanor and speaking style are far different that what she used for Samantha. Sarah Jessica Parker (and many other successful actors) always seem to be playing the same thing in role after role --- same delivery, same mannerism, same voice. I've always admired actors who convincingly change their mannerism for a part. Cattrall did that well as Samantha.
IMO, Cattrall and Samantha were the secret weapon to the success of the show. Samantha was the most well written and interesting of the characters. Having an actress of Cattrall's talent to play her made the character a gold mine for the show. We'll have to see how the upcoming sequel series is written and played. However, I bet money that, without Cattrall and Samantha, it won't be nearly as good as the original.

Good writing matched will talented actors is always a great marriage. Samantha was written to be the standout as series television needs both, no one would watch just a whole show of Jack and Karen you need a Will n Grace to plateau much like the other actresses in Sex in the City. I came to appreciate it in my later years when I was older great idea!

Every woman on this show was inspirational in their own way. I began watching this show, probably when I was a bit too young to even be watching anything about sex (13). I remember laughing at the funny sex scenes, but also kind of getting a "lesson" about making mistakes with men(carrie), being a strong, independent women with her own (Miranda), being safe with sex but still having fun (sam) and keeping hope that love actually existed (charlotte).

When watching her on interviews, you can see why she didn’t really get on with the other actresses. She is SO calm, confident, soft spoken, thoughtful and intelligent. I’ve been watching these interviews with the rest promoting this show and they are SO PHONY. Especially Kristin Davis, just laughing, screaming grinning from ear to ear like a 6 year old at Disneyland. It’s just so fake… There is no way they’re really like this all the time. Kim is too real for them. And I respect her so much for having more respect for her character of Samantha to have her be humiliated again, as they did in that 2nd movie.
The memory of this show is fading, but I remember caring the most for Kim's character. She was hilarious and when something bad happened to her, it was felt.
I'm still so sad and I'm gonna miss her so much in the reboot, Samantha was the best character in the show, always so self-confident and strong... and I'm sure that nobody would ever play that role like Kim did

In the scene where Sam is at a black-tie event wearing a wig due to being bald from chemo, pulls off he wig because it's just too damn hot. 10 years later that scene is my inspiration for being able to go wig-less when I'm also bald & going through chemo. Wigs are hot and I was already suffering from miserable hot flashes. Thank you so much for making that scene.

Kim MADE THIS show….her antics, attitude, and comedic talent, looks and acting abilities far outweigh all of the other 3 actresses, period. I watched it BECAUSE of her…..she was a hoot to watch. Love this actress, she is great in all she does.

Kim really gave a dimension to the City that brought the series to life in a way that never would have happened without Kim 's performance.I don't think anyone could have made that show sing the way K.C. did and it never would have been the hit it was without her amazing,poignant, humorous,playful ,distingiished , BRILLIANT performance.She is a magnificent actress and should have been paid every bit as much as SJP was..
As someone who is now her age and who decided not to have children, I appreciate what she did with the character so much more.

I'll never forget how amazing Kim looked in the LA episodes. She really was the standout comic relief and you were just drawn to her in every scene. It saddens me that she isn't involved in the reboot. I hope the personal drama gets resolved
I’m 22 watching Kim play Samantha completely change and revolutionized the way I think about aging as a woman. She was older AND she was sexy confident funny and amazing.

I remember being upset when a friend told me I was more like Samantha than Carrie. She would of told me that today and I would of been very pleased. Samantha was the character the most genuine, free, open, trustworthy, powerful, non-judgmental of the show. Love her and glad Kim took the role.

I remember a tv critic saying in the early 2000s, shortly after the show ended: “the show’s “supposed to be” about Carrie...but Samantha was the one they tuned in to see, Samantha was the one they remembered.” Oh how true those words are. Samantha was the heart of the show, along with Miranda. Kim and Cynthia are fantastically talented actresses, and the life they both infused into their characters made them so dynamic, layered and relatable. Carrie for me was the most unlikable of the 4 leads....I thought so as the show aired and think so today

She was strong and powerful, graceful and unashamed of who she is and was. She did get upset at times in the show, and broke down like we all do. She had a career and friends she loved. But when she fell, she cried, talked it out, dusted herself off and went again. I think Samantha was the only character not to bring up old drama or pick a fight just for the sake of drama. And if a man was a jerk, she didn't stick around that long.

I’m 25 years late watcher and the fan if Sex and the city! I just started to watch less than year ago. I knew all four actresses only from interviews and newspapers. I never understood the obsession of the fans with Samantha until I started to watch the show. Now I know and understand why she will be the forever favourite.

If she said TODAY "I wanna revisit Samantha", the doors would open for her. Bottom line: she didn't want it.

After watching the past few weeks of AJLT, I can confidently say that I’d rather watch a show featuring Samantha’s personal journey in the UK than the other 3 in NYC.
