Most people don’t realize how challenging it is for a machine to balance like that, or how quickly these technologies are advancing. Just wait a couple of lustrums, and you’ll see.
Also surprisingly amount of people don't see robots are prepared or remotely controlled in most of demos and think we are going to see robots be like real humans, like ai and mechanical progress are the same.
We are still far away from the dream. I want a robot that is super intelligent, goes to work, makes the money while I lay in bed all day watching UA-cam and ponder about the meaning of life.
It's for developers right now who want to figure out practical uses and make programs or train neural nets so it can do stuff autonomously. Probably we'll have one company that makes the hardware and a bunch of companies that provide the automation, maybe via cloud SaaS
As long as u can remote control it, it is possible to write sophisticated programs for various use cases. Think of a DJI drone with third party software that can inspect dangerous facilities.
Yeah, not even that, they are for people in the same industry, basically great for experimentation, developing software, maybe studiying the competition to get some ideas..
I have a suspicion that some fairly major leaps forward are on the way in this field. I'd guess by January next year there will be a similarly priced humanoid that can autonomously open a fridge and retrieve an icy cold beverage, and bring it to someone sitting on a couch. If so, all bets are really off from there.
Every one of us random chaotics know exactly what we would do with that handle, and that's why we never get invited to these kind of events. Or any events...
What I am imagining is a central AI on the cloud, i.e. your own AI assistant, specifically allocated to your account. You basically give commands to the AI software and the AI controls the robot. In that sense, the 'soul' and consciousness of the robot is basically in the cloud, but the body is in your room. Like in the film Avatar. So, I guess it's no different that a Google Home Hub type of a set up.
As was probably expected, the hype demo videos from the company set expectations much higher than the reality could deliver. Giant RC toy is the present reality.
@@cameronbigger3412 It's easy to understand if you can differentiate between a robot and an AI, what's being shown is the ability of a robot to show that an AI can do these actions, this robot can be programmed to do whatever he wants to do
Cooking, cleaning, stocking, inventory checks/audits, assembly etc. These are the baby steps you're seeing. Future robots will come programmed already to do many things and will also learn as they practice like humans. Some learn while a human controls them or guides them (like babies).
What's the load capacity of these? If this could follow me around the city for short distances it'd be a HUGE advantage moving equipment that I have to make like multiple trips with.
the big one which they didn't bring that cost 4 times the price can carry 40kg walking and 100kg for wheel. enough to be a gun platform with a belt of ammo... heh.
. they def should have had leaned on accessibility by having someone in a wheelchair use the robot to walk around the room and chat with people. also, how good the hardware is, it seems like they are only missing the AI tools that nvidia was talking about during their keynote. this is gonna get better fast!

Its basically just a hardware development platform for you to create your own software to control it. It is not intended for endusers, but more for developers as a devkit.
I think that's going to be the standard for most humanoid robots. They have a lower center of gravity so it's easier for them to stay balanced - and if they do fall, they'll take less damage. Also, I think many people would be uncomfortable around adult sized robots.
its worth like 8k at the most in my eyes. i want samsung or apple to make a humanoid robot they would get it right would costs about as much as this robot but would at least have AI
I got a dog from the pound it sits, lays, rolls over, greets me at the door, lets me know when strangers are at my front door or back yard, it plays with me and takes me to the park and all for the low price of $50 bucks. Note does not come with batteries.
Would be cool if you can control it with a VR set and hand controller. The AI would support you and take care of the legs, while you control the hands and what to do. I think that Tesla can do that. It is not cool as 100% AI, true, but the potential for remote work are infinite. Also ... not having ChatGPT integrated to "at least" understand basic vocal commands and to answer questions is quite a downside ... but this is the 1st robot of his genre to be affordable to the masses, and probably these improvments will come soon. Probably there is already a 50000 version coming.
They need to be selling these at cost so they can speed up data collection to make these things do stuff we can actually use them. As soon as they can do my laundry and wash my dishes I'm going to have two of them.
Give it 10 years and they'll do that and more. In 15 years everyone will have one and wouldn't fathom how anyone lived without one just a few years prior
So a very expensive robot toy that cant do anything functional? What is the point of a biped robot that has no functional hands and you have to control it?
cool. but what can it do besides be a fun toy to show your friends. I need it to Load and unload my dishwaher, pickup stuff off the floor, load and unload washer/ dryer and hang up and put away clothing. walk the dog etc.when can it do that?
Probably 5 or so years. You're seeing the baby steps in that direction friend! Some robots learn while humans control or guide them (the one in the video isn't one of those)
Yep, we made bots, so we can push them around. Now, so long as people are not stupid enough (sadly some are) to try to add any form of real emotions to them, or make them to react emotionally to things, these bot will be just fine for pushing around all we want. For they really will not care. But if we do make them able to care about things, on a human level, well, we have real live human as an example of what happens when you push something emotional around at all, too much, or too often. Take a hint, robot developers.

Why should any company hire your robot and pay a "salary" instead of buying one?
It's not that far away, like 2 years or so if that.
