Wife and I were in Vegas, Caesars palace back in 2005, Drinking and gambling, saw John Daly at the bar. Asked him for a pic. He asked us to sit down, we chatted for a bit he covered our liquor and food bill and he wished us good luck. He was a true gentleman and very humble.
John’s great redeeming quality which people absolutely love him for, is his natural transparency. The man is real. And now he’s coming into a nice time in his life, the best time, the best years of his life, when can now spend some time reflecting upon those great memories of his, those great achievements, which will keep him going forever.
JD's honesty and openess about the struggles he has faced is why the people love him. He is one of the most talented golfers we have seen but he relates to the avergae person. He loves golf and he enjoys his life. He is humble and that's why he certainly is my favourite player.
Many years ago my dotor told me to stop smoking, drinking sugar drinks with spirits and begin exercising. If i introduce alot more fruit and vegetables and less processed food my kidney health will not subside. My missus told me that i had my time drinking and that it was time. For me it was easy , you see people love you and want you to live with them. If you're still doing it into your fifties then what have you learnt . Surely you can see the light by then...surely. good luck John

Means a lot to come home from yet another long day at work, to see a new JD video up. Thank you Mr. JD for your astronomical contribution to the human race. Best wishes to you and your family. Godspeed my friend.
I watched John hit a bad pull drive to the left on the 9th hole, 1998 PGA at Sahalee. A severe dogleg left, John was so far left we couldn't see him from the back of the green. Suddenly, a ball landed about 10 feet from the pin. John hit an 9 iron, 168 yards, around a large tree with a 40 yard draw. He made the birdie putt.
same thing at firestone north. hit it so far left nobody saw him go to his ball. just saw a ball come back to our hole over people's heads. then he gave his driver to a fan and got into a fight with the club pro's dad. good times.
Two of the most controversial (=interesting) guys in the game. Excellent! I don't know when this interview was recorded, but for JD and Feherty both, to be so apparently real, is very nice to watch. To hear, to see. This is a great interview. I have met very few celebrities in my life, but I attended a professional snooker tournament in England in Oct '17. I had Players' Lounge access at that event courtesy of a Mr Mark King, and met many of the top professional players. It was a thrilling experience, especially the time I was given just in conversation by Stuart Bingham and John Higgins. So gratefully appreciative that they took the time, and JD is right, they are also just people too, ah, nice to meet you, and thank you 2 ways for your applause and back at ya for your realness. Cheers.
John is a legend. An American icon. I've been trying to emulate that swing for years. But I'm lacking the talent he was dripping with. Nobody got screwed harder by the game than JD. Name another player who deserved a Ryder Cup chance and was skunked harder than JD.
The first driver I bought was a lion! I played a little before that and had been fallowing you for ever. Now I got 15 years on the course holding every grounds/assistant/superintendent job there was. Thanks for giving me a love for the game and a respect for the course. Lotta love john! ❤
Such a super interview. These two are great together and so funny. Loved it! John Daly will always be my most inspirational player ever. No wonder JD has so many loyal fans.
fathers should take a good look, this is how you affect your children. john is the product of his father's upbringing and it took him a lot of wasted years to recover. imagine john with a long successful career. i love his new outlook and i hope that john uses what he has left to be the good man he really is.
I absolutely LOVE JD. One of the most honest and beautiful human beings probably ever. If anyone can beat the C word, it's John. JD and Tiger are the reason why I started playing golf. God speed my dude. God speed.
I remember watching JD playing in LA Open in 1992. Phenomenal striker of the ball - terrifying power. Around and on the greens, incredible touch. So glad he got some majors.
I'm not even normally a golf fan but I grew up in St Andrews and I was revisiting other golf videos and landed on Daly and Roca in St Andrews in 1995 and then I landed here... and I'm finding your guest here Daly a fascinating human being and I'm really liking your channel - subscribed immediately - the conversation is fascinating and the humour is putting a big smile on my face.
I followed Daly/Scott at the Kemper years ago and couldn't believe how fast they played the course. In one motion, he would drop the cigarette, place the tee/ball down and start the back swing, then slay it 300+ yards down the fairway, then pick up the cigarette and start walking. Incredible!
Man, was needing something to watch tonight and thought of this for some reason. Looking at Daly's eyes, he was lit for this interview. You can tell it, and that makes me like his authenticity even more for it.
John is so humble. He doesn`t tell you the athlete he is. Watching the Superbowl and drinking a 12 pack is intense! At least 12 times getting up from the recliner, and racing to the refrigerator for a beer and hitting the john to drain one and then get back so as not to miss commercials. It`s grueling and takes training.
12/26/2023, Some of the greatest pearls of wisdom and fact arre imbedded in this 43:24 video. I admire both of these men. Big John is a great guy with a few demons in the shadows.. the demons have had their take on his marriages, his finances and his health but they have not (and can not) touch his soul! Love this guy!
so Daly playing in local men's league here in Clearwater FL a couple years ago, waiting to join senior tour...I ask guy who saw him "was he on range warming up"? "no" he replies, "he was in the bar drinking"....ahh, that's what I've missed all these years in my game, true story
I know what it's like to be ridiculed for where you grew up. I was raised in Stuttgart. In Doctoral school one of my professors told me to my face that I was the product of a deprived (Arkansas) culture and I didn't belong there. I changed my major to a more difficult one and graduated with honors. He basically left in disgrace. Even so, that sort of scar stays with you for a lifetime and it comes back to haunt you from time to time. You go, JD.
His life was an open book, and that's gotta be hard because you're trying to please everybody. Thats a lot of pressure. And of course the media can be brutal. So to survive all that is a testament to John Daly's real character. I wish him all the best. What an amazing player he was. One of a kind.

TY for your career!! I remember the 90s well. Beat that cancer! And yea, BIPOLAR is some serious shit. My ex was, and she told me near the beginning and I was like what John said, "Who isn't?" It's hard to explain but she was downright scary at times. She also was on a bunch of meds like Feherty.
you'd have to say with John's lifestyle he would be a bipolar poster child. It's hard to tell whether that "who isn't" comment was non-bipolar ignorance or just bipolar denial. He's certainly never publicly accepted any kind of diagnosis.
No one is ever 100% HONEST about their life.
