I can’t explain the love I have for the twilight movies, some may think it’s silly, but it’s just so mesmerizing. The movie is obviously not real, but the love portrayed in this movie is the reason I love it like I do. The thought of being so loved by someone like Edward and Bella is so beautiful and makes me hopeful. The end of twilight leaves this dull, empty feeling at the bottom of my stomach every time I watch it. It leaves me like this for days, I’m back to reality. I think the reason being is because it’s so captivating, I feel stuck in the movie, a break from my stupid and unnecessary life. When it’s over, I snap back to reality, to this sad little world. My love for this movie is endless.

My boyfriend and I had our first dance to this song at our prom in 2015. The prom was over and we were sitting on a black bench waiting for our car to pick us up. It was dark out and there was this white gazebo a few feet away. I told him it reminded me of Twilight and it would be cool if we could dance to it. This song was playing when I found out one of my best friends in the World had stage 4 lung cancer as was going to die. He was a wonderful, generous, kind, and decent man who would help anyone. He was a flightless bird, his life never took off, he never got married, never had children, yet he helped so many others. He was the brother I never had, and it was a big pill to swallow when he passed away earlier this year. I miss you and love you Mike. You are not forgotten.

October 8, 2023 and i just finished watching the whole series of Twilight. I have been doing this every October since they were released, there's just something about the whole series that wraps you in this world and makes you a part of it. My husband made me watch the entire series. We’re on Breaking Dawn Part 2. I hate to admit, I never watched any of the Twilight movies. I was a die hard Harry Potter fan, who took little interest in other realms. I wish I would’ve watched the series when it came out, because I’ve been really loving it and I know my 14 year old self would’ve loved it too.

I looked up the meaning of this song since no one seemed to know and its actually quite beautiful, tragic actually. This is what someone else posted;
"IMO, there are dual, yet similar, themes running through this song: (1) an individual's loss of innocence/idealism; and (2) the degradation/dissolution of the mythical "American" dream.
The first verse sets our protagonist as an innocent child (quick, wet, diving too deep) - newly born, baptized, full of energy/enthusiasm, carefree. We get a glimpse of what's to come through the "blind" eyes of the adult world whom the child can already see seem focused on material things ("plastic toys"). The "cops" (his own adulthood) crash the party and he's forced to grow up and give up his pure youthful enjoyment of life (cut his baby hair). Thus, he begins his quest to find his meaning/life in this adult American landscape. For me, it also brings to mind the end of the idealism of the peace/protest movement of the late 60's...the system crushes the uprising...the hippies cut their hair...and wander off...going on to what?
Well, the second verse tells us exactly where our protagonist's journey has landed him...a big fat safe spot with the adults of his youth. He's achieved the "American Dream", or has he? Now all talk and no action. He curses himself and the wrong/injustice he sees around him, yet he idly sits and watches these "poison rats" (the establishment, big business, corrupt government) slither by and destroy his ideal world. He bides his time in his magazines, finding pleasure in viewing some advertisement of folks fishing in some idyllic river. He is not out there himself, but even if he was, he would be merely pillaging/ruining/sacrificing a place of nature ("blood of christ mountain stream").
It's a really depressing song, but it's certainly beautiful."

I love these lyrics, "diving too deep for coins" going out of your way for something that isn't worth much in the outcome. I think this shaped the rest of the song because he explains questioning something of worth. Something we all search for when we find it. We question if it's too good to be true. I think this is a concept of the idea between finding what we seek what we look for inside ourselfs we end up finding it in other people. And the cycle never stops, until we find them. Then we don't question anything, because we are sure of what we found.
First saw twilight in 2008 when I was 9 years old at a cinema downtown Toronto with my uncle and brother. Absolutely changed my LIFE, met my best friend a year later and both fell deep into the twilight hole. So many nights as a 13 year old crying and be depressed over boys in my little bedroom listening to the entire twilight soundtrack. Lykke Li, Band of Horses, Paramore…. So many iconic artists that shaped my entire pre-teen life. Even as a 25 year old today I STILL am obsessed and love twilight just as much as I did as a kid. Some may say they are cringe movies, but there’s just something about them that I’ll love forever and ever
I love the movies as well. I’m only 2 years older than you. I rewatch them every year. I love the soundtracks a lot. I wish I could find someone too share life with just like these too. I’ll never quit watching these movies.

-Even though he doesn't do it anymore, he still sees how easy it is for others to hurt each other.

-Again, couples fishing for an opportunity to make each other jealous to get attention.
Thrown in the cold and clean, blood of Christ mountain stream
-Resembles his life with the girl in it, she makes a cold and bloody river seem like a clean stream of Christ.

I'll never forget 5th grade, all of my friends were twihards but my mom would never let me watch the movies, one day I was home alone and new moon was on TV so I watched it, the next day I told my friend kaylei and she SCREAMS at me to watch them in order, so when my sister was out of town I stole her DVDs 😂😂
I remember how badly twilight had its grip on me, my childhood is all about waiting for twilight series and watching it and dreaming about it😍 like I watched new moon 4 times continuously without break😣

This song SOUNDS pretty but the lyrics make zero sense whatsoever.

I do have to agree though, the lyrics are gorgeous but trying to understand them makes my head hurt.
I think it’s about chasing that “American dream” but then realising that it’s not being what everyone expected it to be.
“I was a quick wet boy diving too deep for coins” meaning that he was young and naive trying to do whatever he could to make money. It meant everything to him.
“All of your streetlight eyes wide on my plastic toys” I think means how society is eager to rip his childlike innocence away from him, his toys (his happiness) are plastic and therefore not real.
“When the cops closed the fair I cut my long baby hair” I think symbolises coming of age in a world you’re not ready for, he’s still young hence the baby hair but he’s trying desperately to grow up. The fair (fun) is over and now it’s time to work.
Then with the bird, we all know the symbolism behind the american eagle - power and freedom. yet he’s found a bird, unable to fly. this is his realisation that he never will be free from societies hold on him. Coming to terms with the fact that the “american dream” is nothing but propaganda.
The bird is jealous, weeping because it’s restrained and held captive unable to fly.
“Now I’m a fat house cat” The need for money has overcome him and he’s succeeded in a job that pays well. He’s older now and successful, but is he happy?
The poison rats are what I believe to be those who
weren’t as lucky, representing all that’s wrong with the world that everyone ignores because it doesn’t affect them. He’s drawn to it, as a “fat house cat” because he’s greedy, but he can’t go outside and even if he does they’ll poison him. He’s rich and he’s above that, but he still feels guilty. He knows it’s not right, but that’s always how the world has been. You either make it, or you don’t.
That's what makes songs like these special, it means something different to every person.
