For the price the image quality is quite good and better than I thought it would be. I have never used such a wide angle lens before but I have preordered the new Panasonic S5II with the new Panasonic 14-28mm f/4-5.6 macro lens, so I am looking forward to trying it and seeing what kind of images I can get at 14mm.
Well, there is a huge difference in field of view between a 14mm full frame lens and micro four-thirds. With a crop factor of 2 on the M4/3 system, your 14mm would equal the field of view of a 28mm full frame lens, not ultra wide angle at all.
A good value lens, I think. Not perfect, but the higher-quality equivalent lens I already have (the Rokinon/Samyang 14mm f/2.4- bought years ago largely on the basis of your review, by the way) was nearly 4x the price- and this one can take filters, unlike mine!
The lack of distortion is welcome! My Rokinon 14/2.8 has a ton of 'mustache' distortion at the edges. Otherwise, this lens appears to perform about the same. (Dark corners, 'OK' sharpness.)
If I was buying this lens, I'd be more than interested to know about its midzone sharpness (and field curvature), which is one of the most important things to know and sadly isn't covered in this review (I hope to see that included in some future reviews). I'd also care very much about its centering (which is always a gamble though, and can't be tested for every copy). Quite often with these Chinese companies even the samples they send to reviewers are (sometimes severely) decentered. Something to consider as a risk, since I don't think it's easy and cheap to send the lens back to China (especially after import taxes).
Why would you send it back to China? Just send it back to the store or Amazon UK and they’ll take care of that. More than likely you’ll get a new copy.
Honestly, I don't like that you often don't show the change in image resolution as you stop down both in the corners and in the middle. I suppose there was an improvement also in the middle...
Finnaly a full frame super wide with okay F stop fully Manuel with low distorcion and even at a good price My 24mm full frame is feeling a bit to tight / narrow for my personal liking
Takes great pictures! I consider it a buy. Chris, do you color grade or manipulate the photos in anyway, or are all of your test pictures straight out of the camera? (referring to all pictures shown in your videos) Thanks!!
Thanks for all your great reviews, this seems like a good lens for the price and able to put filters on it is a bonus, especially since I have filters of that size already. I shoot with the Sony a7rii, can you recommend a lens that produces good 'sunstars' for me? Thanks again, Ron.
The old Sony Zeiss 16-35 f4 has a very distinctive sunstar which is different than any other lens (it's beautiful). Many of the GM lenses have nice sunstars.
I owned a manual 14mm Samyang and that focal length is too gimmicky, a bit too wide even for landscape. The only remarkable thing about this one is that it has a filter thread which is quite remarkable for a 14mm 2.8
I seriously think about selling my Laowa 15mm f2 now and getting this cheap one for Nightscape Astro stuff. The Laowa is completely useless until f3.5 anyways. Hm.
Did you miss the coma performance section of the video? It takes up to F/5.6 before it clears up. I wouldn't recommend this for Astro. You are better off picking up the Samyang 24mm F/1.8
I really don't know what is wrong with that reviewer. This lens DOES NOT get shrap in the corners at all. Not even at 11. Ask any decent land scape photographer. This is not to be recommended because you will be unhappy with it, depsite the low price.

@@Eikenhorst why you bring m43 into the discussion? S5II is a fullframe camera
@@MrLambda48 Oh sorry you are right! My excuses, I was confused there
Honestly this is a great buy!
I'm trying to get started with interior photography and this might be a great first option
Considering the budget, This lens certainly goes to my wishlist

That low distortion is quite a feat, I think. Nice.
I've seen filters that are higher priced for this lens. Thanks for the review and samples.
Goooood eeeeeveninggg
I was expecting an image just a bit wider than your usual macro test shot camera clock but this lens' minimum focus distance blew my mind 😂

mark ii review was taken away?😅
I certainly love indoor buildings
Wow, amazing results for the price, and that filter thread adds so much value. I love this types of wide angles but shoot APSC unfortunately.
Hi! What has happened to the review of the mark II? It looks like it disappeared.
In blackmagic full frame?
Christopher, how do you compare this one to the Laowa 14mm FF Z D?
If it were also af. Would be nice if sony release g version of their f1.8 something similar to this
Great value. IQ is prett good considering the price and most people eyeing on a more budget lens probably don't have a high-MP camera anyways.

Nisi makes a 15mm f4 lens that they say is designed for sunstars. I don't have any personal experience with it though.

I'd rather take that low distortion than lower minimum focus distance.
I wonder how this would look on micro 4/3.
narrow
It's better than Samyang AF 14/2,8.
Unusual for such a long minimum distance for an ultrawide which is disappointing.
It’s still a bargain though.

@@princeharbinger I'm using a star tracker anyways, so this is basically a cheaper option with kinda same performance as the laowa.

Perhaps lens copies are not the same? Oh, in the distortion/vignetting section, you can see the 2 o'clock quadrant having low contrast.
Think so too and stay with my Sony FE 20mm F1.8.
