I'm so over idiots like this that think they can iron a logo onto the front of some pre made fruit of the loom crap and call themselves fashion designers. It's embarrassing
I dont believe this brand ever hit the big time, like Superdry or Jack Willis, but I do fear the shelf life of university brands. Give them 4-5 years, and few fresh intake of students, and there be a hot new brand, looking to sell to the freshmen students.
These are all very old videos (2013 in this case). From wikipedia: Deal Failed Young Ones declined the investment after filming, stating they felt Bannatyne did not share their creative direction for the business.
I was all onboard until they said the price. Onesies are super popular at Uni, but people buy them for like £20 max from Primark. They would have been better going cheap and cheerful and then lots of designs and colours and said students will want them all.
@@TheManInBlueFlames nope I went to Uni 10 years ago, that was the price then. This episode is probably 15 years old, so them being expensive makes it even worse
Update, they founded a field hockey equipment company, Y1 that seems to still be doing well. The holding company they formed to own it has like 600k in the bank in 22
I know he did take 40 percent but Duncan is usually pretty fair, I read that by 2019 he had sold back all of his den investments back to the original companies. I hope those guys made it work with him
They should have come back with the offer to be equal partners... 33.33% each - Duncan would have been happy to keep them incentivised but also it would have given them 10% more each. It's a fair deal and I believe he'd have compromised on that basis.
I was thinking the same, equal partnerships. They should have tried at the least, but like Aaron said, highly unlikely he would have accepted less than 40%!
Seems like university companies have the most potential, mainly because the founders are more likely to be like minded individuals surrounded by people who they can naturally uptake ideas from, all you really need is to create a brand that appeals to those people ur surrounded by.
What happened to the Onesie Boys after the Den: They decided to decline the offer after the show. The YoungOnes company status shows that it's been dissolved on August 17th 2021. Interestingly, their website is still operational! Not only that, but it also has a "Copyright 2022" on it, and their Instagram account is still making posts. Through their website, I've found out that they have a company called "Y1 Sport" now, so it seems that they've just consolidated everything under it. Don't quote me on that, I just spent 10 minutes doing a google search.
There is something incongruent in the suits they wear and in that they wear suits to promote their anti-formal wear. The whole pitch has a disturbing and unreal quality about it.
The taller one has incorrectly fastened his buttons (bottom one should never be fastened), so the look was probably undone in the eyes of Peter, Deborah and Kelly.
Yeah he owns all of it... very wealthy and successful individual. He didn't make any deals in the first season so they got another dragon to replace him
@@montelvontaviouspore Thought he left because the Dragon’s Den turned into a battle of Egoes rather than helping entrepreneur with credible businesses. At least he is much better than Doug Jenkins. Also the track records I found out is that if they invest too little, they at best have 2 seasons.
Why doesn’t that surprise me Not in a cruel way just in a, they remind me of those guys their age I know that still live with their mums. Probably spend more on their weekends then they’ve put into savings
According to their Facebook page the lads decided after the show that they did not want to give away 40% of the company and pulled out of the deal with Duncan Bannatyne. Although the company (YoungOnes Apparel Ltd) was dissolved in 2021 Chris Rea and Tom Carson together with other shareholders are still trading under the names of Y1Sport Ltd and Y1Group Ltd, they appear to have taken the advise of the dragons and changed the logo from YO to Y1 and Y|1.

Christopher Reason sounds like a designer brand tbh

I love fruit of the loom for being cheap lol. Not expensive.
A bit dramatic to say embarrassing. Maybe it's better quality, plus it's custom. You don't know
Guys these episodes are decades old, yes current prices will be cheaper now
£59.99 and then market it to uni students who notorious for having no money? They don't even know their target audience.

There have been trends that have lasted for a long amount of time and in terms of brand, you only need it to hit once to get a big hit.
Onsies are very popular even today.
