Wetherspoons used to do a phal on their curry night, I had one and only managed 3 fork fulls, properly boiled my head! 😂 I was expecting it to be tame like the supermarket ones but it caught me off guard that one!
Personally, I think that eating a Phal is more about bragging rights than enjoying a delicious, rich balanced curry. I like making a nice big pot of food you have to faff around with for ages; unless there's a film on Turner Classic Movies I haven't seen yet.
How weird is that paps? I had one of these for lunch today and it was delicious. It was hot from the start and the heat built up once I had the green chilli. I don't know about you but I suffered from the burn most, once I had finished it. You are welcome to see what my eyes and nose were like because I filmed it.😊
I quite liked that curry, but added some boiled potatoes, a dash of Mr Naga, lots of fresh coriander and some fresh lime juice. I’ve just brought the lamb Rogon Josh and the chicken ruby for later in the week😊
That looks so good Papp. It's a 50/50 toss up between being too hot that people won't buy it again and not being hot enough it's not worth buying again for the experience. So I suppose the manufacturer meets it in the middle. Personally I'd prefer the taste over a screaming demon heat and leave the authenticity up to the restaurants who know what a Phal is. Unfortunately phal convenience meals aren't available to us Aussies, so it would be a restaurant thing with the extreme heat. But there again I've not seen phal on any indian restaurant menu that I've visited. Not to foul for a phal. Cheers Papp 👍🤤😀
Papp me old beauty, I've had this a couple of times now 🤔. Think it's really Tasty and great for the money. One of the best supermarket Currys. I would give it a strong 8 out of 10 👍😁😉🍻🍻
I got this today was gonna have tonight , but then went into iceland and got the pepper X new spicy curry . Literally has just blown my head off 😂😂 This looks really nice , I might have enjoyed this more lol
Looks nice i not had a curry 4 ages i just buy the budget ones but i think i need to step it up to a more pricer one to review great review as always papparoni 😊
I think that I've said before that my Phal days are over, Papp. However, I'd quite like to try this. Seen a couple of other UA-camrs try it, and they seemed to enjoy it too. I can imagine that it's nothing like the Phal that I used to get in the Raj Duth in Southampton (1992-1995) but that may not be a bad thing! The Phal/Fall Guy...#DadJoke ✌
Looks like a decent offering Pap. It's a shame when companies err on the side of caution though. Everyone should know a phal is supposed to be very hot. One to tweak with I suppose. Good price.
Well with all these advancements to make our life easier you would think that someone would have come up with a scanner to determine the exact heat strength in curries because there really is no bench mark manufacturers tell fibs and put 5 chillies on ready meals when really there not. So if my idea of a scanner that determines the heat strength happens we will be sorted until then it's just hit and miss as we all know.
@@PapparoniAgreed.. They do on the other hand have the other ones in the same range... Prawn Bhuna and Chicken Tikka Masala but not this Phaal or the Jalfrezi....?
I saw all these Bilash curries in Aldi today & was put off by the amount of water swilling around in the sauce. Chicken Phsl, Keralan Chicken, the Prawn dish were all the same 😏
It looks nice from looks alone I would buy that and prepare myself for disappointment in the "phal heat" stakes I buy lots of different curries from supermarkets and have yet to find any that are hot, Madras, Jalfrezi even Vindaloo all below 5 on the heat scale and these seem no different
I'd definitely recommend the Naga chili curry from Morrisons - hot and packed with flavour. The Phaal in this video is on my list to try next as it looks very good.
I dont understand the phal spelling. Its phaal, phal means jump in bangladeshi. No idea what theyre trying to do here lol. Anyway, still looks like a good effort. Thx papp.
Tried this. Usually can handle hot food but struggled to eat it all! Too hot for me. Flavourful though. Dont bother with the tikka masala of this range - it was nothing as tasty as this
It certainly looked the part Papp... But i had a very strong inkling that the Spicy Heat levels wouldn't be on the level of a genuine Phal strength Curry my friend... That you have to verify your age before you're allowed to purchase it in-store... As it's an age restricted product that's only allowed to be sold to those who are 18+ years old... His view on the Curry was that it was indeed very hot... 🌶 But the Chicken was in small pieces and there wasn't very much of it either... And just to let you know if you didn't already Papp... Many thanks for the review Papp... It's very much appreciated... All the very best... Cheers mate. 🍺
Fantastic heads up mate, age verification, crikey me that says a lot! I had no idea what Pepper X was, and now you've told me, it's no wonder it's so far down the ingredients list as I just looked it up on their website :)

Actually looks delicious and the price is ok but they can't be claiming it's a Phaal but actually it's just a mild Madras. We are paying for Phaal heat not Madras heat.

That did make me laugh, and I know exactly what you mean, many a man have I seen sweating and regretting taking on a phal.

Tip top additions mate, Mr Naga bringing things to the next level yet again, and I must get some coriander, thanks for putting it in there..
I so enjoy your reviews and this one didn't let me down. Beautiful music as always Pap. Thank you.

It's arguably a good thing that you chaps aren't offered phals in your curry houses mate!
Looks like they are trying to take on Asda's Bom Bahia range. Which is excellent.
It does seem that way Trevor, personally I prefer the Bom range.
Good authentic tasting Indian cuisine but can't find it in the Dumfries branch any more. Bring it back aldi
I'm with you Andrew

Great channel and review, would love to see the new pepper x chilli range from iceland on the channel
I'll try my best Collette :)
@@Papparoni thank you would he great to see your review on any if the new pepper x iceland range
Aldi seem to have these on sell through for £1.79. Picked up 4 today and straight into the freezer.
Great find nice one.
I had one Friday...Nice enough and plenty of chicken but not particularly hot...But the upside of that is that it had taste to it..
Very well put Darren.
Had the vindaloo from Heron last night but I think u reviewed that yonks ago.. the phaal looks 😋
I certainly did Sarah, in November 2022, it humbles me to know that you remembered :)

The budget ones are ok Siobhan :) If you want to step up, try the Bom Bahia ones from Asda..
This phal curry has been doing the rounds. Bilash are apparently good.
I liked it, prefer Bom Bahia though.

Go for it mate, and The Phal Guy - well done ;)
Always think the chicken in these ready meals is much softer and juicer if you air fry, extra cost but it's worth it sometimes.
It can be yes Frankie, I simmered one on the hob once for about ten minutes and that seemed to work as well.
Looks like a decent offering Pap. It's a shame when companies err on the side of caution though. Everyone should know a phal is supposed to be very hot. One to tweak with I suppose. Good price.
Indeed so Phil, salt, lemon and Mr Naga would sort this out.
Would love to see you do the pepper X 😅
I might get involved mate!
Hi Pappa.... Try the Lamb Rogan Josh in the same range...it is amazing!
Thanks for the heads up David :)
Gonna have to have a go at that Pap!! 😋😜👍
Fill your boots mate :)
Hey bro i had same bilash but veg kofta curry of aldi best taste.
Good to hear my friend.
Looked really nice just a shame it didn't have the heat factor and lacked seasoning. Nice one Pappy

Still not in my local Aldi store here in Birmingham....
You'd think Birmingham supermarkets would be the first to supply new curries

Hey pap. Hope you're OK. I have this in my fridge to try. I tried that pepper x chicken tikka masala. Did a video. Man oh man that was hot..
Just watched, you did well mate!
@Papparoni thanks mate. I couldn't get my words out haha
Will try Aldi in the next week or two 👍
Hope you found one Sarah :)
@Papparoni I've not had chance to go in Aldi yet but I'll hopefully be in on Saturday 👍
Is the Carolina reaper iceland curry still the hottest you have tried ?
From a supermarket absolutely so Carl.
Looks hot but not anyway it's getting that time of the year again when the silly food is out there on the shelves.
Indeed Wayne, I have something silly to do already ;)

Indeed most supermarket curries are a let down regarding heat, the one that sorted me out was the scarily spicy Carollina Reaper one from Iceland.
I'd definitely recommend the Naga chili curry from Morrisons - hot and packed with flavour.
The Phaal in this video is on my list to try next as it looks very good.
Thet seem to of stopped selling it in aldi now ? Shame, as the phal one was lovely.
Just checked their website and it looks like it might be that way unfortunately.
