Lets not forget the purpose of soca is to bring it all together and who better than someone with soca in her veins. Just heard the news that Phase II Pan Groove will be going with "SOKAH" by Nailah Blackman for Panorama 2018! :-) I think Boogsie moving smart as he wants everyone to know his band's panorama tune very well come the finals so they can fully appreciate his arrangement. I think Phase II Pan Groove could be hot favorites to take the Panorama title for 2018 so them other bands better come real good or else licks sharing! ;-) Congrats to Nailah Blackman and the producer Anson Pro on having their tune selected by one of the top T&T steelbands for Panorama 2018! I could already picture Nailah on stage at the Panorama Finals waving Phase II's flag. Her grandfather Ras Shorty-I would be proud as he started his career as a steelpan player and arranger even before recording his first calypsos in the early 1960's!

He deliberately got Bob Marley & the Wailers to infuse their reggae music with rock music elements so that it would appeal to a wider white audience. Bob Marley was also pushed into the forefront as the leader of the Wailers because he was mixed and his look would appeal more to White audiences than Peter Tosh or Bunny Wailer.

I think Boogsie moving smart as he wants everyone to know his band's panorama tune very well come the finals so they can fully appreciate his arrangement. I think Phase II Pan Groove could be hot favorites to take the Panorama title for 2018 so them other bands better come real good or else licks sharing! ;-)
Congrats to Nailah Blackman and the producer Anson Pro on having their tune selected by one of the top T&T steelbands for Panorama 2018! I could already picture Nailah on stage at the Panorama Finals waving Phase II's flag. Her grandfather Ras Shorty-I would be proud as he started his career as a steelpan player and arranger even before recording his first calypsos in the early 1960's!
If Phase II had stuck with this tune for the Panorama, I am convinced they would have placed higher in the Final. BP Renegades Youth Orchestra won the Junior Panorama this year playing this tune and Nailah Blackman waved the flag for them during their performance in the Final.

He deliberately got Bob Marley & the Wailers to infuse their reggae music with rock music elements so that it would appeal to a wider white audience. Bob Marley was also pushed into the forefront as the leader of the Wailers because he was mixed and his look would appeal more to White audiences than Peter Tosh or Bunny Wailer.
Why do Trinis always feel their music has to be watered down and Americanized to appeal to others? Other than Rihanna's music and Drake's cultural appropriating songs the Caribbean music that has been a hit internationally has been soca and calypso apologetically.

I just checked and all Nailah's releases so far are hits and she either wrote or was the main person involved in writing all of them. Nailah already has 3 back-to-back soca hits so far with well over million UA-cam views.
In fact her first hit "Work Out" released less than a year ago now has approaching 7 millions UA-cam views;
"Baila Mami" has approaching 5 million UA-cam views and was released in late April this year;
"Badishh" released in 2nd half of August this year is currently on well over 2.5 million UA-cam views;
This latest release "SOKAH" is clocking over 25,000 UA-cam views per day since its release this Tuesday which means at current rate this track will be near or passed 1 million UA-cam views sometime between Christmas and New Year's Day.
So all the folks criticizing please note that you can criticize all you want but Nailhah seems to be doing something right since she burst onto the soca scene and into the limelight earlier this year during the 2017 Carnival season.
