People don't think "Catholic" when they think California but it is!! Our capital "Sacramento" is named after the the Blessed Sacrament and a majority of our towns and cities have Catholic names. Please, Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, make California a Holy Catholic place again!! I live in the town of Sonoma, the site of the last California mission (north of San Francisco and San Rafael).
I dont know there are catholics in California but after our indian bishop Dominic Jala died in a car crash in California I came to know because most Americans are protestant
You forgot to mention the Grotto of Lourdes in Emmitsburg, Maryland! The high tower with the statue of Mary, which you did mention, is the entrance point to the Grotto. The Grotto is a replica of that in Lourdes, France, and the fresh mountain spring water is said to be holy. The pathway features the Way of the Cross, an outdoor chapel, and dozens of beautiful statues and mosaics. It is so peaceful and good for the soul!🙏🌹
On the same day as the Chicago fire, Champion WI was leveled by a fire that was an order of magnitude worse. But there were no newspapers in Peshtigo, WI, so nobody knew. But Adele Brise led the townsfolk onto property of the Catholic church, along with their livestock, and they prayed for deliverance. The fire surrounded them, charring the OUTSIDE of a WOODEN FENCE...but it never harmed anyone on the church property. I hope to go there this summer.
El Santuario de Chimayo in New Mexico has beautiful surroundings. The small chapel is rustic and humble but we felt awed and inspired there. Being there and praying there in the chapel contributed to my journey back to a right relationship with God.

Awesome show. Another beautiful place is The Holy Family Shrine in Gretna Nebraska. A beautiful structure you can see off I-80. One of the most peaceful places I know.
In St. John Indiana , The Shrine of Christ Passion is amazing. It is a series of 5' bronze statues that go through the Stations of the Cross through the Resurrection and more. There is also a large statue of our Lady, a dedication to Unborn Children and more.
Absolutely fantastic grounds at the missions around San Antonio. Additionally, there are great missions around Goliad, TX. Its near those painted churches as well.

And if I may add, The St Kantius Shrine in Chicago , Shrine of Christ 's Passion in St. JOHNS, Indiana, Shrine of Maxillian Kolbe , in Marytown, Libertyville, Illinois. Happy travels to you all. 😊❤❤❤
The Marian apparition in Wisconsin is also the site of a miraculous sparing of life in a horrible fire that swept through the area and everyone at the church were spared as they prayed.
The rest of the story of Our Lady of Champion. Read about, or watch The History Guy on the Great Peshtigo fire. While EVERYTHING around the Church burnt, The Church sustained NO damage
When you come to Santa Fe for the staircase and the oldest church in the US... be sure to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe: the oldest church in the USA dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Sancturario of Chimayo, San Felipe in Albuquerque - the current building is over 200 years old... of course San Miguel was nearly 100 years old when the parish was founded... Join the pilgrimage to Chimayo on Holy Thursday... don't worry about a map, just show up at the Cathedral in Santa Fe after the Mass of the Last Supper and join the long walk through the night.
Kentucky’s Holy Land, right in the middle of bourbon country. The Trappists of Gethsemani Abbey, the Sisters of Loretto Motherhouse founded in 1812, the Basilica of Saint Joseph-where America’s first inland diocese was located in Bardstown, and the home of several parishes founded in the late 1700s. Come see the Catholic sites and drink some bourbon. I’ve been trying to get you guys to visit there for years!
100% agree!! It's a wonderful place to visit 💜. My husband and I came for a visit for the Bourbon Trail years ago and ended up loving Bardstown so much we moved here. We just received our Sacraments this past Easter Vigil.
Oh, my, yes! I've been there. It's lovely (although surrounded by urban blight). Fr. Solanus healed my great-uncle when he visited the good Father to obtain a blessing back in the day.🙏🌹
I didn't even know about Blessed Stanley but happened to be living in OkC. I was just happy to find a mass and confession time that I would make. Once I had gone a few times I finally made it into the museum and walked the grounds. It is a beautiful site and moving story. Very inspiring. It became my regular saturday mass location for quite a while. I learned to try different churches from my mom. She is always trying to attend daily mass and it leads to many great discoveries.
In St Louis is the Basilica Cathedral of St. Louis has the largest collection of mosaics in North America. Pope John Paul II visited there in 1999. There's a museum in the basement with his vestments, etc for him visit. Also the Oratory of St Joseph and other beautiful churches within a few miles of each other. Across the river in Cahokia is a Log Church built in 1699 and up the hill from there is the National Shrine of Our Lady of Snows. Many beautiful churches in a concentrated area in the middle of the country.
I love the Basilica in St. Louis! The old Cathedral by the Arch is a cool place, too. There's also the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is in Perryville, MO (a bit of a drive, but worth it).
Holy Hill in Hubertus Wi is a must see... let us know when you come to Wisconsin... we will join you. Btw... Marquette Univ. is in Milwaukee. Really enjoy your program amd prayers for Father Rich!
How about compiling all the Catholic sites in America, with contributions from listeners, and selling it as a travel book? Southern Indiana: St. Meinrad Archabbey (also a female monastery 10 miles away in Ferdinand).
Should have included the only approved Marion apparition site in U.S. - the Champion Shrine in Door County, Wisconsin. ( formerly Our Lady of Good Help)
Look up the San Xavier del Bac Mission in Tuscon Arizona. We just happened upon it on a road trip back in 2016. It's a beautiful church. From its website: A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. It is a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space.
Please add to your list the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio in Barto, Pa. It was built by Mrs. Vera Calandra whose daughter was granted a life saving miracle directly from Padre Pio shortly before his death. It is a magnificent shrine with so much to offer, please check it out.
So excited you talked about Mount St Mary’s! I graduated from the college and continue to love visiting the grotto. The statue of the Blessed Mother drew me to the college in the first place.
I am planning on going there this summer. We tried last year but it got so hot and I was bringing my mom and her sister. I then had to go back to work (school nurse). Fingers crossed it works out this year!
I wish I'd known that in 1991...I was in Gettysburg on the way to d.c. (dad had a work related thing in d.c. so my parents and I and my older sister Drove out. Brother had high school finals and couldn't come)
I am a fan of two shrines in Michigan. First is the Cross in the woods, in Indian River. I especially enjoy the doll museum - every doll in a different habit of an order of nuns. The other one is the Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest, Bishop Baraga, in L’Anse in the upper peninsula. Last time I was there they had the best pasties!
I lived in San Jose, California, for 13 years. For seven of those years I was within walking distance of the Santa Clara Mission on the campus of Santa Clara University, and I would sometimes walk there on a Saturday morning to enjoy the site and to pray. My favorite drive to take was to Carmel to visit the Carmel Mission Basilica there. That is such a beautiful place: the church itself, a museum, a lovely courtyard, beautiful grounds, graves of converts. I bought a rosary in the gift shop, although I was not yet a Catholic at that time (I was part of a Protestant denomination). One of the things that drew me to Catholicism was the ambiance of the churches. I also was able one time to visit the San Diego Mission, which, again, was beautiful.
I recently learned about Blessed Rhoda Wise house and Grotto in Canton, OH. She had the stigmata. Mother Angelica had a healing and conversion at her house when she was a teen. I have not been there yet
The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama is an incredible place. It was founded by Mother Angelica and is where she is buried. It is also where her order of nuns is cloistered. Highly recommend. They have a free retreat house for clergy, and all the masses at the shrine are ad orientam, with communion rails, and still novus ordo.
Ave Maria Grotto is about 15 minutes away! The artwork there was created by a Benedictine monk who lived and died on the grounds. He spent 46 years of his life putting it all together.
@@brianagrzybowski4734 indeed! St. Bernard’s Abbey is also a beautiful place, including Ave Maria grotto. They actually just got funding to refurbish the whole grotto and they are having a renowned preservation society and university do the restoration.
If you're ever in Chattanooga, TN, come check out Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica. It holds the coffin with remains of Fr Patrick Ryan, Servant of God, whose case has been opened for canonization. There is a documentary on Formed about his story and how he gave his life during the Yellow fever in order to stay behind and care for the parishioners.
Fascinating show! As always , thanks for doing all this research, guys. Sister Wilhelmina’s incorrupt body in Missouri would be an inspiring one to add to the list too.
St Joseph Church in Erie PA, where Fr Larry Richards started an Annual Octoberfest. The Church could be the most beautiful that I've ever seen (outside of Basilica or Arch-Basilica). The Octoberfest is highly recommended (I have no ulterior motives), and tents ensure that you need not worry about the weather.
Cloisters on the Platte outside of Gretna, Nebraska is a silent retreat center, that has life sized Stations of the Cross... overlooking the Platte River. It is based on St Ignatius of Loyola prayers... ❤
St. Augustine is one of my favorite places as a Florida Native, so I will definitely be making the drive to start the Camino, Been there a few times but never knew about the stamp ! I was blessed enough to be able to visit The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in DC and spent last Good Friday there where I got to actually adore/touch true relics from the Passion of the Christ (thorns from the crown, shavings of the nails, piece of the cross, etc.) in the Crypt shrine as well as participate the stations of the cross and Good Friday mass.
The shrine of N. American Martyrs in Auriesville (Osssernon), NY is right in my neighborhood. Been to Mass at the coliseum, and celebrated July 4th there as well. Beautiful area and a must see for any faithful Catholic
Up until this past August, I worked in IT for the company that currently owns the hotel next to Loretto Chapel. Absolutely beautiful location! It is literally a block and a half from San Miguel Mission, a 3-4 minute walk. So two beautiful locations very close to each other. If you guys are ever in Santa Fe, I have to recommend both. I still work in Santa Fe close to both locations, so feel free to hit me up if you need a guide to them. 😊 By the way, the Sisters of Loretto, who are a Roman Catholic congregation of women founded in Kentucky (another state I lived in) are still sometimes involved with the chapel and do things there. I once assisted them in getting IT work done for an event they had there. The company I worked for did not own the chapel despite the hotel also being called Loretto, but we still helped where we could.
Not on the list, but two places are very special to me: - The Saint Kateri National Shrine and Historic Site (Fonda, NY); Where my husband and I had our last date before we decided to be in a relationship. I was in the small chapel and wrote a prayer intention for St. Kateri, asking for prayers that if I was meant to be with my husband that I would be open to the graces to recognize it. Sure enough when he asked later if I'd be in a relationship with him I said yes! - The Our Lady of Fatima Shrine (Youngstown, NY); Where my husband and I went for a day trip date, and he proposed around the heart-shaped rosary fountain after we attended Mass. Now we've been married for just over a year, and I am so blessed and happy to always be growing in faith with him. ❤
You can add "Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica" in Lackawanna, N.Y. . Beautiful story/miracle on how the Basilica is heated buy natural gas to this day since 1926. Also, The Chapel of St. Michael in Tarpon Springs, Florida & the beautiful story on how the chapel came to be through a miracle of healing a young boy who lived there.
Thank you for reminding us of OLV in NY. the letters I rec'd from there had a beautiful odor of sanctity about them......occasionally I get a whiff of that exact essence as I am carrying my cross. I know it is a grace indicating the presence of God and the BVM helping me.
St Joan of Arc Chapel at Marquette University is in Milwaukee. It’s about 2 hours from the Shrine of Our Lady of Champion. People miraculously escaped the October 8, 1871 Peshtigo Fire at the shrine chapel.
2 places by Buffalo/Niagara Falls: Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica in Lackawanna NY founded by the Venerable Father Baker. I’ll drive there for mass if I’m really feeling the need to put my mind at ease. There is so much to see. Also in Lewiston NY the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. I think the Barnabites founded it. It has amazing statues all over the grounds.
I watch Fr. Chris' talks on The Divine Mercy UA-cam channel. I went to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Found out it was about 2 hours away from there and went. Got there (didn't know it was St. Faustina's Fest day) and there were a lot of people. They have life size stations and to me going into the shrine and seeing the stations was well worth the trip there!
Utah has a beautiful cathedral of the Madeline. Its so nice to pray the rosary in there. And especially on Wednesday or Thursday. There is organ practice. Soo beautiful highly recommend to go. on Sunday mass with a choir ans we also have a relic if Mary Magdalene.
Definitely come up to Milwaukee and pray with us at the St. Joan of Arc Chapel! If you're here during the fall and spring terms at Marquette, the 10 pm Tuesday night Mass at the Chapel is a highlight of many of our students' week, and a fond memory for our alums. And the story about the stone that St. Joan prayed on and kissed always being cooler than the surrounding stones is a "Can Confirm" 🙂
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Somerset, Ohio. First Catholic Church in Ohio and where the Columbus Diocese stretch of the National Eucharistic Procession will start with Bishop Earl K. Fernandes this June.
The National Shrine of Blessed Francis X. Seelos is in New Orleans as well as St Louis Cathedral, the old Ursuline Convent, and many other beautiful churches and shrines in this very Catholic city.
Hanceville, Alabama also has a few cool Catholic places to visit. There’s Ave Maria Grotto, which is on the grounds of a Benedictine monastery. One of the monks, Brother Joseph Zoettl, was originally from Germany. He joined the community in 1892 and died in 1961. He spent 46 years of his life creating all the statues and works of art that line the Grotto’s walking trail. About 15 minutes away from there is the Eucharistic Shrine to Pope St. John Paul II. It’s a church that Mother Angelica built as an offshoot of EWTN’s main headquarters in Irondale, Alabama. When she died in 2016, her remains were interred in the crypt underneath the church. Both of these places are beautiful hidden gems tucked away in the Alabama countryside. I live in Nashville and it’s about 2 hours away from there.
If you ever wanted to check out Canadian sites, there's the Martyr's Shrine in Waubashene, Ontario, Mother House of the Grey Nuns of National Historic Site, St. Joseph's Oratory in Montréal (which was founded by Canada's first home-grown saint and now has a museum), the Rosary Path at Mary Lake, and much more!
Scheel, the largest statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe is in Windsor. There is a festival for the Feast of the Assumption where I will be helping run the fireworks display if you want to check it out. That invitation is open to everyone!
Here's a big one, yall: Fulton Sheen's tomb in Peoria, Illinois. Stunning church. And it has a really nice reliquary.

The other one is the Shrine of the Snowshoe Priest, Bishop Baraga, in L’Anse in the upper peninsula. Last time I was there they had the best pasties!
National Shrine of the Divine Mercy, my sanctuary for almost 20 years!
Great information
Will be adding these to our RV trips
Our Lady of the of Snows in Illinois is beautiful
I lived in LosGatos and we were able to visit lots of beautiful shrines & missions in a weekend
I recently learned about Blessed Rhoda Wise house and Grotto in Canton, OH. She had the stigmata. Mother Angelica had a healing and conversion at her house when she was a teen. I have not been there yet
Is she a blessed now? ❤
The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona, AZ is another must visit!
In PA we have the Shrine of Padre pio and the national shrine of our lady of Guadalupe
Also the Our Lady of Częstochowa Shrine
Mission San Jose in San Antonio TX in Espada Park
A great Benedictine monastery with a very impressive collection of relics and manuscripts is Mount Angel Abbey in St. Benedict, Oregon.
Ditto on the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We were fortunate to spend several days there and could’ve stayed longer.
Yes, both of these! We are blessed to live about an hour away from them and love to go, they are both such peaceful places and the shrine is gorgeous.
Still novus ordo- ugh
The Grotto in Portland, Oregon and Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona Arizona
If you're ever in Chattanooga, TN, come check out Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica. It holds the coffin with remains of Fr Patrick Ryan, Servant of God, whose case has been opened for canonization. There is a documentary on Formed about his story and how he gave his life during the Yellow fever in order to stay behind and care for the parishioners.
Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona. Also Cathedral St. John the Baptist, Charleston, SC. As mentioned by others, Our Lady of Victory, Lackawanna, NY
Fascinating show! As always , thanks for doing all this research, guys. Sister Wilhelmina’s incorrupt body in Missouri would be an inspiring one to add to the list too.
I did the last 100 km of the Camino in Spain, which was fabulous. I like this American Camino in St. Augustine. I would love to get my stamp there.
I live in Upstate NY. I've been to the National Shirine of Martyrs. It's an very powerful place. Oddly a very quite and solemn place.
If you ever visit Wisonsin, come to St. Josaphat's in Milwaukee. We have a wonderful history and a beautiful experience for you!
Very interesting. There were a few places I've been to, but long ago, and this made me feel a desire to go back.
Mt St Macrina is in Uniontown Pa. They have a big gathering every Labor day Weekend.
By the way, the Sisters of Loretto, who are a Roman Catholic congregation of women founded in Kentucky (another state I lived in) are still sometimes involved with the chapel and do things there. I once assisted them in getting IT work done for an event they had there. The company I worked for did not own the chapel despite the hotel also being called Loretto, but we still helped where we could.
But it’s not owned by the Catholic Church anymore
Great show! Could you please provide time-codes for each site. Thank you very much.
Not on the list, but two places are very special to me:
- The Saint Kateri National Shrine and Historic Site (Fonda, NY); Where my husband and I had our last date before we decided to be in a relationship.
Chapel Of The Holy Cross in Sedona, AZ
Our Lady of La Salette in Massachusetts and St Mary’s in Conn and Fr McGiveny and KofC
2 places by Buffalo/Niagara Falls:
Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica in Lackawanna NY founded by the Venerable Father Baker. I’ll drive there for mass if I’m really feeling the need to put my mind at ease. There is so much to see.
Also in Lewiston NY the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. I think the Barnabites founded it. It has amazing statues all over the grounds.
I was going to mention them too.
I'm going to St Meinrad in Sept. Can't wait
San Xavier del Bac Mission in Tucson Arizona is an incredible place and should have been included on your list!
Holy Hill is another great stop in Wisconsin.
if you're ever in or near Savannah GA check out the Cathedral of St John the Baptist
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Somerset, Ohio. First Catholic Church in Ohio and where the Columbus Diocese stretch of the National Eucharistic Procession will start with Bishop Earl K. Fernandes this June.
My father lived in DC in the 30s. He told us, about going to Mass in the Crypt of the Shrine. I thought, that was so cool.
Another reason I live using Seton Homeschool curriculum. These and more are in the American history lessons. Im ready for a road trip!
The National Shrine of Blessed Francis X. Seelos is in New Orleans as well as St Louis Cathedral, the old Ursuline Convent, and many other beautiful churches and shrines in this very Catholic city.
Basilica on the High Plains in Victoria, Kansas
Right off I-70 free to get into.
Beautiful!!!
I was born and raised in Washington DC and visited many of the Catholic Shrines in the DC area.
Where can I get saints clock like the one in the background ❤
Pope Pius Clock popepiusclock.com/index.html
What about the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre De Dios?
The Basilica in DC is awe inspiring. Jaw dropping. I attended my first mass there.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Would recommend
Scheel, the largest statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe is in Windsor. There is a festival for the Feast of the Assumption where I will be helping run the fireworks display if you want to check it out. That invitation is open to everyone!
