As it stands you are paying far too much for an mt07 with some fairing and slightly less budget suspension.
Yes finally! I've been waiting for you guys to get your hands on the R7. Your reviews feel way more realistic and include critical points way better then the mainstream outlets.
Sounds like they've taken proven parts and refined them into a really enjoyable package for riders with a bit of talent who aren't interested in 200+ hp.
Totally agree dude. But I'll also add that along with enjoyment, bit of talent and not necessarily needing 200bhp, there's the final point that many of us (myself included) can't afford the 200bhp Superbikes even if I wanted one anyway. Watching the "big boys" at trackdays when I'm on shonky old SV Minitwin you see them piling in fuel, ripping through tyres and generally just looking like it costs an absolute fortune to keep them going. I just fill my tank up and crack on for the day. Same tyres wet/dry/whatever and always have a massive laugh. I reckon one of these would be exactly the same smiles per pound 😎👍
You could just go buy an older 600cc super sport for cheaper and have an infinitely better time with that talent. Plus the 200hp bikes are easy as hell to ride. I know, I have one, the aids do all the work. I went from a 2004 164hp GSR1000 to a 2021 200hp R1, the R1 is so easy to ride. I don't even have to try. Turning the aids off is another story however. This bike is a budget bike, aimed at those who can't afford better. Let's not sugar coat it.
Great review, brilliant bike. Props to Yamaha for understanding the market. I have almost 3000 miles on on of these in the twisty backroads, and with minor mods it rips and it shines.
Fair play. Seen a load of reviews on this & was wondering what Al was going to think. It sounds like they've done what they did with the Tenere 700 and did a great job with a simple formula. Thank you for this great review, fun is the name of the game. some folks are hateing this bike, but Yamaha give us an affordable Street bike. If I had the budget sure I would buy a liter bike but this will do just fine and it’s a real head turner in the 60th Anniversary addition. I am taking delivery in January.
So in a different light this is essentially a fully faired Fazer. Yamaha had a good formula and they made it better and better over time. I do like the idea of the R7. Comfortable package, reliable and strong engine and a racing feel without the insane powerband. The Fazer was THE mid weight naked for in the city from Yamaha so to see it come so far is a great thing. We all would of loved the idea of an R7 a redo of the infamous 750 racer but in today's world where regulations etc are effecting the industry it's gonna be harder to make those hooligan bikes we love so much. What Yamaha delivered us was a package perfectly suitable for most riders today. I do love it. Personally I still prefer the proper old sports bikes and when I get a big bike it's gotta be a 600rr or F4i. But the R7 seems ideal for an everyday bike. Good bike. And as always budget Statham delivers a great review 👌🏽🏍️💨
It’s amazing that every review heavily critiques the aggressive ergos…but it’s obviously got textbook supersport ergos so I’m not sure if nobody expected it to be this aggressive or it’s just the most aggressive ergos ever seen on a motorcycle.
I think the extreme ergos are even more apparent over here in the US where we *don't* get the Tracer (the only Tracer we get is the increasingly pricey T9GT), so there's a neutral-ergo naked and a race-tucked full-fairing bike with this motor, but nothing in-between on 17" wheels (I'd probably buy the Tenere if I wanted to tour on this motor)
@@FortyFourTeeth that’s a little concerning. I’ve purchased it sight unseen (subject to test ride) as they don’t launch in Australia until December. To make things worse I’ve owned a very comfortable mt07 and bought the r7 because it looks amazing…but I also have a bulging disc in my lower back and am 195cm. I just don’t think the r7 will work. While significantly more expensive, is the rs660 more comfortable?
@@JamesBond-ph6hr it is way more comfortable. I’ve sat on both and not only is the aprilia way more upright…the seat it has is soft and super comfortable. Honestly it’s a bit too soft for my liking…as I think it makes it a bit hard to shift around on the track.
@@JamesBond-ph6hr dude the research has been yours for the taking for months now. Every review that I've seen or read has included the fact that the bikes ergos are almost as aggressive as the r6.

I like the look of this. Just bought a Gen 3 Busa and every time I look down I’m doing triple figures, which isn’t great for the licence. I like the idea of this, something I can legitimately push in the bends and have a good laugh on.
@@tokyosmash I have a twin 800cc rotax with a 360° crankshaft and a 3rd conrod slide weight for balance. I still think triples fours v-twins are better v-4 even. But it's all about cost. Soon every bike will be a single or parallel twin.
100% agree I work at Wigan Yamaha and we are taking orders for a bike that until recently had no price it’s a great bike at the right price so say all the tunas and other big fish !
@@FortyFourTeeth With a nice growler, the CP2 is at least on par with the RS660. Watch the Yoshimura R7 video, it is delicious. Also great video as always, thank you mate!
Al nice reviewing I see it has enough power to lift the front wheel and flows through the twisties nicely. A good rider will humiliate many big bike guys including very respectable race track manners
Just rode home on a RSV660 after dropping my V4 1100 Tuono Factory off for a service - 660 does not have a 675 top end rush, it’s quite spartan and paint is... - but it does have a blipper, a little bit of a top end rush, you sit right in the bike, it turns really well and you can have some fun at semi legal road speeds/front pops up easily. Can really see the point in these bikes - but would I love it like my old 675r or a 250 2-stroke - no.
The MT07 family of bikes is stupid appealing. If you have the (relatively affordable) price money, the biggest problem is picking which one you want. I thought I wanted the Tenere 700 but I'm not sure anymore
Great vid. Bike looks so sweet with all the rear guard n gubbins removed. Cannot wait for the head to head with the RS660, as I'm genuinely ready to ditch the 1000cc 4s I've been riding for years for something more engaging, without the paranoia that comes with enjoying 1000cc motorcycles on British roads. Its a toss up between the R7 and the RS660, and if I go R7 I could be left with a few quid for some trackdays! 👍🏻👌🏻✌🏻
They absolutely need to make a sports bike with the 850 triple engine. I have an XSR900 and the engine is a diamond. They would then have a twin, triple and inline 4 sports bike
Epic, nice one Yamaha. I've a Yamaha with a CP4 motor and fancy electronic Ohlins suspension and I still think the R7 is ace. I'd love to have one as a track hack. As much as I love my monster rocket riding a slower bike fast is very very rewarding. More so than riding a fast bike fast.
do you adjust the suspension yourself during the review of bikes, or do you just ride it as they give it to you? just because you mentioned the settings a few times, so i am curious if you fine tune it after a few laps / after a while on the road
I've had many bikes over the years and I've never adjusted the suspension on any of them. Not a single one. I just got used to how it rode and got on with it!
So far this sounds like the strongest contender for replacing my old cbr600rr, which is already way too fast to really enjoy on the road, even a 600 you can't really open it up enough on the road to get full pleasure from it. The most fun bike ive had on the road was a ducati 749, it was a debt trap but so much funn just enough power to go fast, keep up with just about anything on the road and not too much power so you could open it up and feel like it was singing its heart out. I dread to think what a 1000 is like, must be boring, never being able to let it sing because its to fast.
I did have my reservation for a Blue R7 but canceled it as a GR Yaris Circuit Pack was available. I do like the R7 60th WGP edition livery it is very tempting and I still have my MT-07.
Proper bike for today. Commuter friendly and will silence a few egos at a track day too. Anyone that thinks 72hp isn't enough hasn't spent a day on a 60hp 400 and got home shaking like a hostage! Plus, these middle weights won't have you hunting the best credit card APR's to pay fines or have you telling fibs to the boss about why you can't drive the company car for the next 3\6\12 months, let alone worrying about getting humped dry by your cell mate. Who the fcuk is Nige?
Probably good fun on a twisty road or on a very small track. But as soon as you hit a big gp track this bike will become boring. We need to stop validating mediocre performance for premium prices if we want accessible motorcycling to survive. The old expression "its all you need for the road" is another way of saying: satisfy yourself with less power. If this was the case, why are we not all riding around on R3s and duke 390s? 99.999% of people wont be able to get even a 400cc supersport around a track as fast as marquez. Does that mean no one should be allowed to upgrade to a more powerful bike? No it doesnt. There is just no getting away from the fact that you are paying almost 10 000€ for a bike with 70hp. You used to be able to get a zx6r which has Twice the power, better brakes, better chassis and better suspension for just a grand or two more. No matter which way you cut it the R7 is overpriced.
@@Probeionic key word you used was “relatively”. Of course it is cheap compared to a 1000cc superbike. But its only a grand less than a street triple R for half the performance. And i dont doubt that it is a good bit of fun on a tight twisty track. But on a bigger track you have far better options for not much more cash.
Looks like a fun track day bike Sir, but that special with the factory race jewellery and set up for the track with a set of Michelin Powercup 2s would be all day fun for sure. Importantly, carrying less timber onboard would squeeze a little more from of the 75 horses too. Wouldn't you agree!
This has to be a great bike for someone wanting to do track days on a bike with true super sport geo, but with manageable power to learn on so they don't die.
It's a shame you're wing man was not with you (MOSSY) Because when you're both together riding and an honest review at the end is most amusing. But even you're on your own a great demonstration of new R7.🙂👍
I find in all cars and motorcycles. I actually end up speeding with the smaller engines I get carried away. With a big engine I have nothing to prove and just chill. My friend only got done for speeding on a 125cc. His other bikes are a 1250 bandit cbx1000. Honda sp2. If I get done for speeding it will probably be on the aprilia sx50 not the 800gs. And the R7 still does 0-60 in under 4 seconds and over 100mph in less the 1/4 mile. Very easy to get fined for speeding.
The only thing I didn’t like about the MT07 was the suspension so even if it is only a little bit better that’s good enough for me, still will love my F800ST more 😅
Most riders don't need any more than what this R7 provides. And a really skilled rider would have a blast on it.

Finally I’ve been waiting on your review and your review only!!!!!!
It’s amazing that every review heavily critiques the aggressive ergos…but it’s obviously got textbook supersport ergos so I’m not sure if nobody expected it to be this aggressive or it’s just the most aggressive ergos ever seen on a motorcycle.
It was more of a surprise than anything. There's never been a bike in this class that has such extreme ergos. Even the Aprilia feels like an armchair
Every review that I've seen or read has included the fact that the bikes ergos are almost as aggressive as the r6.
in the first few minutes with the 'oooh shut up' u are completly right. people always bitchin about this bike but I swear it looks awesome it has an awesome motor and it is going to sell like no other sportbike in that range
I'd love to see you guys compare R7, RS 660 & CBR650R in a video
Thanx guys
Yass 😻
It would also be good to see a street triple thrown in there to see if you actually need the fairing and racing crouch. ..
The RS660 would slaughter it. And for the price difference, it should lol
Sat on the balcony on holiday with a beer, what perfect timing. Buzzing for this one 👏🏻
Nice one Nige the only review that counts
I think this looks a cracking bike love the minitwin segment it's just fun.
Also - went S22 on the back of 44Teeth using them - oh my goodness, best tyre I have ever ridden on! Binned the Super corsa SPs in favour of these
This was llong time coming.. I was waiting for this!!
Been looking forward to this video since the R7 was announced, anyone else itching to see a middleweight supersport 'mega-test'?
I like the look of this. Just bought a Gen 3 Busa and every time I look down I’m doing triple figures, which isn’t great for the licence. I like the idea of this, something I can legitimately push in the bends and have a good laugh on.
Definitely looking forward to a head to head, oh and the bike comparison too!
I’m pumped for this thing. Will make a killer start point for a track bike
Just get a used cbr600r much better track bike. Pick one up for £1k rather than £8.5k
@@chrishart8548 plenty of us out there who prefer twins
@@tokyosmash I have a twin 800cc rotax with a 360° crankshaft and a 3rd conrod slide weight for balance. I still think triples fours v-twins are better v-4 even. But it's all about cost. Soon every bike will be a single or parallel twin.
Missed you Al! Looks a right laugh miiiiiinnnnndddd
What a motor. Seems to be such a hit no matter the platform. Yamaha may be convincing me to give one a test ride…
Thank you so much for making all these videos especially for me. Nigel (Nige) Gibbon
No worries Nice
There aren't that many of us left 🤣
Another belter of a bike review Niiige! Cheers Al! When’s the BBB coming?!
On board footage NEVER does a ride justice and this still looks the t*ts... epic upload as always; thanks lads.
100% agree I work at Wigan Yamaha and we are taking orders for a bike that until recently had no price it’s a great bike at the right price so say all the tunas and other big fish !
So, having ridden the R7 and the RS660, which would be the more ‘fun’ as a trackday bike, if you were stepping away from litre bikes for a while?
Haven't ridden the Aprilia on track but even so, probably the Aprilia: better noise, more character etc
@@FortyFourTeeth With a nice growler, the CP2 is at least on par with the RS660. Watch the Yoshimura R7 video, it is delicious. Also great video as always, thank you mate!
A Daytona 675 😉
Alastair Fagan. One of the best in the business. ❤️
Al nice reviewing
I see it has enough power to lift the front wheel and flows through the twisties nicely.
A good rider will humiliate many big bike guys including very respectable race track manners
Looks like a great little bike , I will be tempted when the R9 is released if they do a similar job .
Little? Why do you think you need 1200cc? Didn’t you listen
@@arlinghamindoorspace3052 It is small I have ridden the 07 a great LITTLE bike with a punchy LITTLE engine , I ride an MT09 and would get a CP3 R9 .
Love a good Fagan review👍🏼
Another entertaining review,thanks!
I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while!
They absolutely need to make a sports bike with the 850 triple engine. I have an XSR900 and the engine is a diamond. They would then have a twin, triple and inline 4 sports bike
Bikes like this are going to give the supersport class a well needed refresh.
The Anniversary and GYTR are pretty f**kin cool 😎
do you adjust the suspension yourself during the review of bikes, or do you just ride it as they give it to you? just because you mentioned the settings a few times, so i am curious if you fine tune it after a few laps / after a while on the road
Why is dry weight even a thing? It makes sense for shipping etc, but when will I ever move it dry as a consumer?
☝👍
I did have my reservation for a Blue R7 but canceled it as a GR Yaris Circuit Pack was available. I do like the R7 60th WGP edition livery it is very tempting and I still have my MT-07.
R7 SP for the win!
That GYTR version quiet literally had me salivating. How anybody can talk down on twins is beyond me.
If it was a 1000cc twin I guess it might be OK I didn't think it sounded very good. ☹
I'm a keyboard racer who could never ride this bike to its full potential but think it needs more power.
It's a shame you're wing man was not with you (MOSSY) Because when you're both together riding and an honest review at the end is most amusing.
But even you're on your own a great demonstration of new R7.🙂👍
This was a proper review 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Is this new R7 an evolution of the TRX 850?? Remember those?
FIrst review I've watched of this bike, waited out the squid show pony youtubers for you guys, yes!!!
That red and white bike is ❤️
The exhaust is the first thing that gets replaced anyway so it's fine if they went budget on that
Awesome review bud cheers 👍🏻
I like that little heat shield poking out :)
I love thrashing my little 600 fazer about, like you said pushing a bike to the max is more fun than 180 down a straight!
Would be great to see a feed of the telemetry on track. Hard life though eh. Good stuff.
Fun looking track tool.Thanks.
Sure fire way to get invited next time - give a raving review
I find in all cars and motorcycles. I actually end up speeding with the smaller engines I get carried away. With a big engine I have nothing to prove and just chill. My friend only got done for speeding on a 125cc. His other bikes are a 1250 bandit cbx1000. Honda sp2. If I get done for speeding it will probably be on the aprilia sx50 not the 800gs. And the R7 still does 0-60 in under 4 seconds and over 100mph in less the 1/4 mile. Very easy to get fined for speeding.
1st thing i noticed were the dutch licence plates on (all) the bikes ^ ^
The only thing I didn’t like about the MT07 was the suspension so even if it is only a little bit better that’s good enough for me, still will love my F800ST more 😅
Hated MT07 suspension, always felt like it was gonna wash out on me when I pushed it hard, no such issues on the R7.
The red/white bike looks glorious.
it will be fascinating to see these and the other new geneartion of "sports" bike., competing next year at BSB and WSBK.
The GYTR spec in the 60th Anniversary paint scheme would be lovely.
I own an MT-07 and let me tell you just tucking makes a huge difference so i can only imagine what a full fairing kit does..
Never though the blacked out version looks awesome
