My 2 cents: @2:55 Bajaj had a performance bike called Kawasaki Bajaj, 100 CC (Popularly known as KB 100) to compete with Yamaha RX 100. They had released it as early as the late 1980s. However, it was not as popular as RX 100. The bike which took the country by storm was Hero Honda CD 100. It was a four-stroke bike with great mileage. It was an all-India super hit bike in the late 80s to mid-90s. They released Hero Honda "Sleek" which had a sporty look was aimed at youngsters. Ind-Suzuki was another popular 100 CC vehicle at the time. Of course, Bajaj scooters were also a super hit all through 80s and mid 90s (may be even in 70s, I don't know as I don't have first-hand knowledge, hutte irlilla naanu aavaga!). Upto 1992 all we had was Yezdi, Kinetic Honda, LML Vespa, Hero Honda, Ind-Suzuki, Bajaj scooters like Cub, Chetak, Narmada Scooter, Rajdoot Motorcycles, Bullet Bike (Royal Enfield). Basically, I could easily identify the vehicle by just listening to the approaching vehicle's engine sound. There was one high-performance bike called Rajdoot 350 (RD 350). There were these Luna, TVS 50, Hero Puch etc., too. Around 1992 TVS-Suzuki released Suzuki Shogun and Suzuki Samurai and then later Suzuki Shaolin which had 5-speed gears. Around 1995 the government made the catalytic converter mandatory for 2 stroke bikes. As a result, RX 100 became RXG 125 CC, KB 100 became KB 125 so on and so forth. Then came the Bajaj Caliber in the late 90s followed by Hero Honda Karizma, Bajaj Pulsar around 2000-2001, and a host of other bikes. I may be wrong with the chronology by 1 to 2 years. My Mom brought me a brand new Bajaj KB 125 in the year 1996 when I joined engineering. It had 12.5 BHP with a great pick-up. Yamaha guys used to underestimate this bike and often lose in street racing with me (very less traffic back then in Bangalore). This KB 125 had great road grip owing to its optimal length-to-height ratio/CG. I truly owe my life to KB 125 because so many times the bike went out of control but managed not to have a bad fall. One rally champion suggested I put on button tires which increased the road grip by another 20-30%. You can find the images of all the bikes mentioned in the Google Images search.
