G'wan! Great session. How did they manage such a session on St. Patrick's day in Dublin. I would have thought the Yankee tourists would have drowned out the tunes with their clapping along.
As one with Irish blood coursing through her veins (among other nationalities), this stuff never fails to make me want to stepdance. The pipes (never seen that form before! I only know the usual bagpipes from Scotland so I have no clue how those work!), the fiddles, the flutes... all of it moves me. But I'm wondering who in the world in this group is keeping time like drummers do. I see what looks like a Bodhran at the foot of the guitarist, which I assume is the equivalent of the drum kit, so is the guitarist keeping time? Are all these people just good? This baffles me @3@
The Scottish pipes most people are familiar with are called Highland Pipes (there are other types like Scottish Small Pipes & Border Pipes...) but these are called Uilleann Pipes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uilleann_pipes The rhythm is set by the musician who starts the tune and everyone else follows.
differous01 Ah, that's interesting... Yeah, I looked up the Uilleann pipes sometime after I wrote this comment. Those are interesting, too. Wow, I just can't fathom a song without drums and one without them sounding so fluid!
