Most heart-felt condolences over the loss of the Queen (and Long Live The King) -- even here in the US she was a symbol of the enduring strength and steadfastness of the UK. Let's all celebrate her reign and her consistency through huge changes across the world and in the UK!!!

She died?? Awe. She was getting up there in age. It's weird how she looked well one day and gone the next. Harry had just been out to see her and tried to get his kids to see her as well. Sadly he did not. Even though I did not wish anything bad on the Royals, i think the whole institution is a load of crap.

Well on the cod bottle and a beautiful little porthole mirror! I love the gold colored acrylic glass!
So back in 2017, my Dad and I did a DNA swab. The results were not really what we imagined they would be. I had been told alley life that there was alot of Native American heritage in my DNA. Well, to my surprise, no Native American was there but a huge percentage British, add in a dash of Scottish and a dab of something else European. I am in the US and as far as I knew, all my relatives have been just American. But it seems like there is a solid line right back to Britain for me. I think the percentage British was something like 90%. Who knew?! Take care Simon!

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson 2 роки тому +1

Yep! All Americans were ultimately from somewhere else. We haven’t been around long enough to be our own group. The Native Americans have, although they mostly came from elsewhere as well.

Beautiful mirror upcycle. I didn't look through the comments to see if anyone said it, but I believe the 1/2 glass might refer to the thickness of the glass. It does look to be about 1/2 inch thick.

Oh that porthole and how you bought it back to life is just stunning. How I wish I had something like that, brilliant idea to make it into a mirror, the patina of the metal is so beautiful...you are so very clever at finding ways to re purpose things. Just seen your video from 3 years ago, the poison bottle one, and shortly after Tim found a long thin bottle with a rounded bottom for worming or something, the reason the bottle is round is they fitted into a pouch on the saddle bag, saw it being explained on antiques road trip by the militaria expert who found a camera for fifty quid and they flogged it for over 20 grand, name escapes me, but the long thin bottles usually go with equine equipment.

Hi Simon. Love your channel! I've been doing picture framing as a profession since the 80's. I've seen videos of you framing things before. Here in the US, most small framing shops love to help home crafters. The big box stores, not so much. A "not-too-posh" framer would more than likely cut your glass for you for a minimal charge. You should (LOL.. that's always a loaded phrase) But seriously, you should poke around and see if you can find a custom picture framer that has a small shop and cultivate a relationship with them. Especially for small stuff. A framer always has lots of scrap. Best wishes Si. Thanks for your great videos.

Going out in a hovercraft looks like such a blast! You have your fair share of fun and then some! It’s such a great way to be - getting all you can from life, doing the things you enjoy and making so many interesting friends. I’m pea green!
My favorite finds were definitely the Roman pottery pieces. To feel that connection with someone from a time 1700 years in the past must be very special. I’d have to have a craft all my own because I’d want to load it ALL up to cart home. I’d be hoarder, but I’d be hoarding worthwhile pieces! 😂
Nice cod bottle, complete with its marble, and looking shiny and pretty. And your fellow larkers found some real treasures, too! The pipe with the bird and the figural one of the black man were different from the usual. That third pipe almost looked to me like deer with antlers, but I didn’t stop the video to have a good look. I’m guessing it’s just my whimsical imagination since you all were wondering about Masonic symbolism.
And then there’s the porthole. It was a pretty great find to begin with, and then you took it and elevated it to so much more. I love the patina, but I actually love it even more with the couple of added spots where you brushed some of it away. It gives it an added bit of depth. Definitely your best work yet! And that’s really saying something. Clearly, sweet Daisy agrees!

Simon, my wife thinks the 1/2 Glass on the porthole is to indicate the glass thickness required by that particular porthole. However she does not know if the measurement is in cm or inches. The glass looks as if it could be either with what we could see of the broken edges... Fabulous results! I think it means one half inch thick glass is required. I think that, because, using 1/2 for cm measurement would be awkward, weird, and probably no one says " 1/2 of a cm." in reference to a measurement.

Hi Si. As an adoptee, the DNA tests I took really surprised me. I didn't know I had Welsh ancestry but considering much of my maternal relatives were from Staffordshire, more specifically Walsall, Walsall/Wolverhampton isn't that far from the Welsh border. I wonder how many Welsh left their hometowns to look for work in the industrial centres of England. Finding out you have Italian ancestry makes me wonder how many Romans integrated with the local population. Si, I was curious, if your family lived in the greater London area for severall generations. Why i am asking is I also got a Danish result in I can't remember if it was 23andMe or Ancestry. Early in English history I learned from an English history class in college that there was era of history were parts of England were under Danelaw.

    Also liked the Roman pottery!

I know this episode was from a year ago, but I decided to do the test anyway. It happens to have a BF discount anyway. Perhaps I will find out if my Mum’s family have some Spanish blood in them! 😂 The story goes that when the Spanish Armada ships were wrecked on the Irish west coast after their defeat, some of the crew decided to stay in Ireland to live. They married local women and she was convinced that this was the reason she had black hair and not the red or auburn hair that many Irish people have. 😂😂 Can’t wait to find out! Just love your channel! (and Nichola’s 😊) Happy days! ❤😊

What a great day! And the port hole mirror was the cherry on the cake! Absolutely beautiful 😍 You picked the perfect mirror for it. It invokes the person looking into it to dream about the open sea, of places far away and coming back home again. Si this is in the top 3 of my favorites out of all your up cycles! So talented!

Oh Si, I'm a real genealogy geek; it's fascinating stuff. I have Swedish, German, Dutch, and pretty much the whole of England, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and Ireland represented in my family tree. I've even traced back to a 7th century Welsh saint!

Cheers Simon 😁 I really like that porthole 👍
I had mine tested a few years ago and was surprised when I looked at it again because it had changed! Apparently the more samples they get, the more they can hone the results. I'm 99.8% European with the majority 66.2% from the Bavarian region which can be either German or French, 33.6% Polish (which was just listed as Eastern European previously) and the final 0.2% is Somali. Kind of goes along with what I had been told by my parents.

The broken cup with the cement type of stuff in it would make a beautifully pin cushion if you can't remove the cement stuff.
I'm so in love with that porthole mirror and using the gold mirror was genius also such a good idea not cutting the mirror.
