I am very surprised to see so many people liking it. I could watch it a couple weeks ago, so not many reviews were out at that point, and after watching it I did not expect that not liking the movie would put me in the minority. But great for everyone who liked it of course. I think the painful part was that the actors did a good job with their characters, so I did feel kind of invested in them, but the story was just insane. I personally was most frustrated with the insane amount of drone shots, but that whole section with the worst painted green ambulance ever was also a big joke. I am still confused if the idea was that it would not be recognisable anymore, or something else. Either way it was dump as hell. With movies like this I don't know what went on in the meeting room because so many of the idiotic things could have been fixed so easily. But fun to see a review with which I agree on this one, as always great work!
I liked it, in spite of Michael Bay falling back on his usual bad habits (shaky cam, too many closeup shots, not knowing how to cut action scenes so we know what the hell’s going on, too much bloat, too many characters and subplots, and bad comedy at inappropriate moments). I think if it were 30 minutes shorter, and gave more focus to the two main characters and more insight into their past and why Black Manta is so loyal to Donnie Darko, it would’ve made for a better movie, but what we got was fine. Not great, but fine.
“That man saved my life”. Who? The guy that shot you and then dragged your ass around LA in an ambulance destroying half the city and LAPD? Good production, good acting and generally love Michael Bay movies but man this was some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen
Imagine the following: they had a chance to paint the van. Why not just tell the paramedic and the cop in one of the ambulance and tell her to drive to the nearest cop, meanwhile other diversions goes on. The robbers get in the gangsters car and flee.
i guess the hostages were still leverage? I thought the same. the movie was too stupid and I couldn't even see how they would get away. It was pointless.
Here’s a different angle to consider: I went to see this on Friday with my 14 year old son. He loved it. When I brought up my 3 biggest issues to him (Why did they need to paint the Ambulance green when just having a bunch of ambulances go in different directions was good enough? Why didn’t Jake wear a mask when he is so recognizable but then in other parts of the heist he slid one on? Why did the cop change his mind at the end and randomly decide to credit Ya Ya’s character with saving him? Seemed super forced) he said “Dad, nobody thinks of this stuff we just want a good time” As a 34 year old movie fan, I was disappointed because there was a good movie in here somewhere with better writing and just a pinch more logic. But maybe Bay doesn’t care because in the end he knows we’ll pay for explosions as a society.
You said it! a 14 years old liked it! The rational part of a teen's brain isn't fully developed and won't be until age 25 or so. This is whiplash the movie. From the nauseating drone shots to the absolutely bat poop story. It's completely senseless. The story wants to be taken seriously at times, then immediately flips and becomes a comedy. Will shoots a cop, it's serious business, then Jake goes "that's what you get for hitting me, he's a marine". I'm going to need a neck brace after watching this. The scene where the two bank robbers break into an 80s song in the middle of a car chase perfectly encapsulates the mindless and asinine nature of this movie. And the crew of bank robbers, what a joke! They were right out of a cartoon, meanwhile, the movie is trying to be as gritty as HEAT.
I was not thrilled off the storyline especially the ending and on top of that it had potential to be on par with the town and I do like an exciting Michael Bay film how he just blows up as many vehicles as he possibly can is just amazing, but but the story itself was just terrible Midway through. I felt like once the federal agent said that Will was weak, the character literally fell into a weak unstable emotional roller coaster mindset and when against his own brother for some female he just met and a cop. It's a reason this film got 6 out of 10 and I'm pretty sure the only reason for that was the special effects. Everyone got to go home except the brother who gave him multiple options to walk away and even saved his ass multiple times and yet he got the short end of the state trying to save his brother that's insane to me. Sometimes viewers do like to see the main antagonist win.

I think the green painting was about distracting the police. I also think it did go on way to long and was like “damn can’t you guys get out of the ambulance by now!”. I did surprisingly enjoy it but I do see where some of your comments are coming from.
I enjoyed it more than you did, but agree with a lot of your criticisms. The humor almost never worked and was really jarring. But I still found it solid three-star entertainment. I liked all three of the leads, and while it went on too long, I was captivated by what went on in the ambulance itself. The chase scenes were fun.
I like to think of this movie as Heat if it were followed by the 90 min chase after the bank heist from that film. I can sort of tell MB was inspired by that film since they both have shootouts at a bank.

It was a quick simple movie that didn't feel long or rushed. For the cinematography. I loved it. For me it does compete with best cinematography of the year.
Cody, I agree. Ambulance was nothing more than annoying. The writing in multiple acts had me cringe. I did appreciate the action, however, the time duration and illogical choices got me frustrated.
Maybe I watched a different movie because the story line was explained in the movie. The movie was amazing. I enjoyed it from start to finish, so I don’t understand what you are talking about. It just seems like you are just doing your jobs by critiquing the movie because it gives you guys more views. As for me it was fun and relaxing movie.
Actually bro. Every person that I have seen review it was very disappointed. I watched it the other night. Yes the talent, especially Gyllenhaal, really made this movie better than it should've been. The "Go Left!" scene was my favorite, when Gyllenhaal makes the big choice to side with his brother. It was definitely a Michael Bay movie. It didn't suck, and it was definitely too dam long, and you can definitely feel it.
I guess they spray painted the ambulance so the cops would chase the normal looking ambulances first. It's dumb but it's something I guess 😆 I don't think the movie is good but I had a fun time.
I felt the same way about the drones. It's like the guy just discovered the drone. The editing was stupid. It would twirl around then just show another stable angle shot of the same thing. The jokes makes me think the script writers are socially awkard. Wrath of Man had terrible dialog as well and I just watched it before this. Movies like this make Tarantino EInstein in terms of dialog.
I loved this movie up until the point where it came time to spray paint the ambulance. There were so many other vehicles they could’ve switched into at that point… but the green paint was probably there to make sure the audience didn’t forget which ambulance was which, because they expect the audience to be dumb I guess. That was the one thing that really frustrated me but honestly I dug this film otherwise. I had fun and the characters/actors did eventually win me over. It’s on the longer side but it didn’t feel like a 2 hour movie to me.
@@Turok1134 I could be dead wrong on this, but did the cops have any reason to suspect the other random vehicles at the switch spot? In theory, the cops would've booked it out of there once they saw an ambulance (their suspected hostage vehicle) take off. The main characters wouldn't need hostages if they were in unsuspected vehicles, I guess is my gripe. but it's likely I missed something that details why they couldn't do that.

Cody,
I agree.
My boy Cody looks good ill see it
This movie was good af
I'm on your side Cody. This is my 2nd worst film of the year. Was not a fan of it at all.
Don’t forget the “we both go left” shootout scene at end, smh how convenient
I’ve seen the trailer a number of times. Not sure if I’ll check it out
8:36 lmao , btw it's not Eliza it's just Eiza
What a relief, i thought i was the only one who thinks this movie was a garbage.
the ending, oh god, lady save the guy, put money at the stroller. and the tears, really?
Cody do your self a favor and call a24 back because everything everywhere all at once is movie of the year go see it asap it’s incredible
Phone Booth that was a good thriller and they didn’t move. Just saying. It was short sweet and effective.
Within 20 minutes, they are robbing the place.
It's dumb but it's something I guess 😆
I don't think the movie is good but I had a fun time.
Great movie!!!! Respect your reviews
They still needed the hostages. Switching to another vehicle was a no-go.
Movie was a fun time but I hated how his brother betrayed him. 😒
Awesome sammi curr shirt
