The "Colonel Bogey March" written in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (also known as Kenneth Alford), a British military bandmaster and director of music for the Royal Marines. The origin of the tune is without doubt british.
A memorable feature of the "The Bridge on the River Kwai" movie is the Colonel Bogey theme, that's whistled by the POW's when they enter the camp.

Love love love the baritone countermelody throughout. Almost like they're playing a different march. An all-time favorite!
That countermelody is what got me to playing the euphonium. I thought the gent playing it was playing the wrong tune but in the same key and it fit perfectly.
Love the movie and thevtune
The counter melody is euphonium all the way through.
@@rotunda57 Yes, that gent was me. I did indeed miss a note, but fortunately it fit in the chord :)
@@RetiredBrass Easy to miss a note when all but F are flatted! This is the only tune I've ever played in 6 flats.
Every time I hear this, I think of "Bridge On the River Kwai" Which is not a bad thing at all, a fine motion picture and an excellent march!
Stan Bradshaw: The film had many inaccuracies...
I think of this and SPACEBALLS “Dink dink, dink dink dink DINK DINK dink...”
Stan Bradshaw, I think of the "Comet" song.
@@anghinetti Like not breaking stride on the bridge 🤣
One of the best pieces of marching music in existence!
Must be the New year and I'm getting nostalgic.Calls to mind the film " Bridge over the river Kwai "
The band does an excellent job. Alford's best march, made world famous by the 1957 blockbuster film The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Listen to the euphonium part during the first strain and the trio. It reminds us of the special role played by this instrument in many of his marches.
DANKE, für so schöne MUSIK!!!
Won so many competitions playing this piece. I enjoyed it. I played the Tuba
I'm impressed! I had it a bit easier, I played flute. :D
I so enjoy this performance. . .HOW MAJESTIC!
I had heard this tune as a 'marching tune' while seeing the movie 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' for the very first time with my Serving Lieutenant Colonel father in 1984. Later, as a Cadet - and still later ; while serving for over 23 years in the Army - AND EVEN NOW as a 'retired Major', i whistle this tune whenever i have a long walk....... Can only add that i have a 35 years long association with THIS 'tune' - and it is almost a part of my life. The latest is that my eldest daughter recently sent it from Canada as my 'birthday gift'....... HATS OFF
You are a gem for posting this!! Thank you Winnie
Amused and 5dollars turan said the WORLD car industry is the best place to start a hjk and a half generation 8PM fuck outdoor 55inches 8yo((((((000000000111)@
Thank you for this rendition. I 1st heard Colonel Bogey in my Freshman band class, loved it then, and I still do.
I love this lots as I used to hear this in the band concerts held in the park! The Drum and Bugle Corps do all sorts of dance and formation moves!
Colonel Bogey March --- most memorable from the movie and it was whistled - "Bridge on the River Kwai." Yes, I have a copy of the movie on my DVR but does remind me of many sad moments - my Dad was working on building roads in Burma during the war. He used elephants to carry construction materials through "Chakma" tribal area. One of the roads from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf is still there. I took my son and showed him the road worked on during the War. I have the movie in DVR.
They played this when we passed in a mechanized review in our tanks at Ft. Bliss Tx a thousand years ago
Oh wonderful band music of Bridge on the River Kwai. Its one my longtime favorite band music which I had marched 40 years which I cannot forget the good memories!!!
Great brass band. So glad they included saxophones. I enjoyed watching this.
One of the things I like about the “Colonel Bogey” is you hear the melody from the trumpet section and the countermelody from the baritone/euphonium and trombone section. Saxophone section too. It’s a wow.
Excellent. The undoubted equal of any British band's performance. I could clearly hear the counterpoint in the trio section as well, often masked by the familiar main tune. Bravo!
Indeed!
Ian McKinnon and I
Pelicula y el tema que lo distingue son inolvidables.
what a marvelous band,well played.
I remember playing this song in band. Every band trip we took after learning this we would end up singing all the different parts on the bus to pass the time. good times goooood times.
Love the Euphonium/Tenor Sax countermelody!!
Les Sweetman thank you very much
Bridge on the River Kwai! HELL YA!
I love how they play. Thank you
there is a few tears in my beer! i thank you and god bless!
BEAUTIFUL, just beautiful!!!! BRAVO!!!!
I remember this as the main theme from the movie Bridge On The River Kwai. also, one of the best march songs ever.
expattaffy: Thank you for the history lesson. Saw the Movie (about three times.
Had to be a horrible place. Thanks so much
What movie?
@Reza I guess Bridge over the river kwai
Awesome sound; great precision marching in a tight area. Wonderful performance!
Excellent playing and marching Thanks. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃
Sousaphones? A pleasant surprise from a European band. Wonderful balance in such a large venue.
European? Australian.
''Hitler has only got one ball,
Goring has two but very small,
Himmler is somewhat sim'lar,
But poor Goebbels has no balls at all.''
Quite possibly the best British march ever written.
i remember that when I was a child, we sang that
Beautifull march. I used to play when I was musician in the Brazilian Marine Corps Band. Congratulations.
Great March one of my favorites !!
great song, great video, great horn, reminds me my high school band life
I remember with this military march the great and famous film of David Lean, The bridge over the kwai river, and Alec Guiness and others film actors.
cant sit still when i hear this march ,will played by this band
every time i hear it reminds me of my time in marine corps---it was used for the battalions to march in and make a formation the good old days of endless marching and long hours of work--God how i miss it
Amazing version!
Drums in the front. I love it. Cool march too. Played at a nice British march tempo. Good stuff.
Haha... the first time i heard this was when i was 6, in a London school in the 50's (but it was less elaborated than yours).
My heart is just swelling with pride...I don't have enough words to say....
The last time I was at Lincoln Cathedral, the organist was improvisiong on this in a rather splendid manner. I think it was for the hell of it.
This march is great. it brings fresh memories, i use to enjoy playing it.1st Kalulushi Boys Brigade Band
Die Brücke am Kwai So ist dieser Marsch weltweit bekannt geworden
Love the counter melody
I am a trombonist and have played many concerts. why don't these people wait until the music selection is over to clap their hands, we think it ruins the concert
H.B. Played 8 yrs and I feel the same way!!!
@@henrybadams6237 Thank you Henry. I felt many people would think I was being petty. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Ellen Leach played French Horn for 16 years will have to tell you all the places I have played
good god! i finally found how this melody is called! i must've been wondering for years!
Quite a novel idea wasn't it?
We of the Bellingham High School Alumni Band in Washington State, play this and other marches. I love it. Richard D.
This is one of my Favorite band marching tunes.
this was played during the Vietnam war as well. the 1st cav marching band played this. it can be seen on the CBS Documentary 'The Elusive Enemy' in the Vietnam war series by the late walter Cronkite.
Dit klinkt geweldig!
Ahhh, I finally know the tune Johnny Five was whistling when he re-programmed the other three SAINTs. :D
Love this. It brings back lovely memories of proudly marching past the Schools Faculty and Parents during Sports Day all in whites trousers and house colours. I remember every line though Im hearing this almost after 40 years
We did that as well in Sydney, Australia in the same era.
It was played by "B" Coy on weekend battalion parades when I attended the Royal Canadian Army Cadets Training Camp at Vernon British Columbia Canada in 1963. Acer Acer
Acer Acer Pori all former and present RCAC members. We all listened to Colonel Bogey. Its been 60 years since I first heard it. I think we marched at almost 120 paces/minute to it.
great march !!
Thanx !!!
wow what a performance especially the drum major band played beautifully/
Thanks. I was the section leader at the time and this is just what I was aiming for. Mission accomplished!
Thank you for sharing! 谢谢您的分享!
Excellent congratulations
Well done!
so great dude
We should all be gratefull to all the herous that sacrifice their lives to be what we enjoy today. Nostalgic song that bring back fond memories of our younger days when we held annual sports event. Thumbs up from me.
They played this constantly at the Naval Academy in the fifties at the parades. This band is playing excellent march tempo.
My Dad (WW2 vet) used to sing this to me all the time when I was a kid. That and Der Fuehrer's Face. I miss him!
Nicely Done !
great sounding band
one of the finest marching tunes
Beautifully played with lovely counter melody by euphoniums.
Odd, I always thought the euphoniums had the melody all the way through, and the rest of the band had the counter melody. Especially the final strain.
@@rotunda57 Afraid not!
Una bellissima marcia che eseguiamo nella nostra banda volentieri
sit back and enjoy the whole piece comrade!
Ein super Marsch und sehr gut gespielt ❤❤❤
Super vid/performance. I thought, however, that the main theme is called "Bridge on the Rive Kwai and that the counter-melody, which comes in a few bars later, that tune is "Colonel Bogey" and that whoever composed the former merged it with yet another great British march. Thanks for posting
¡
Magnífico!
いい曲だよね 元気出るよ
@TheBasicStuff it's called a sousaphone - it's a wraparound tuba used for marching - not as cumbersome to carry - developed by john philip sousa for his band
감사합니다.
I played this march at my school won us some extra funding for the band its hard because its in cut time I played the baritone
日本では「史上最大の作戦」という題名の映画でした。 まだ戦争賛美の時代の映画のような気もしましたが、ドキュメンタリーあふれる素晴らしい映画でした。
Marched to this one on the field in H.S. band in '63
very good ! we are playing this in the community band I play in .fun song
This is one of my favorite war movies songs.
Superb marching
it feeels amazing that our sophmore, mmusic class plays this just as well, without the multitude of snares at least
Not complete without snares
Correction to the previous edition " I had marched 40 years ago" under this title band music.
so cool thanks from Greece
What a fine drum section with their royal blue Premiers .Ours were silver sparkle Ludwig Supersensitives, out shown only by our esprit de corps. I had the great pleasure of playing The Colonel Bogey March in the late 60s under the inspired direction of the esteemed John B Robbins. Only Sir Alec's rendition is more evocative. Thanks Winnie9212 for some excellent memories. Regards
The finest yet..
I remember playing this song in band camp
Superb 💪
"Colonel Bogey" was based on a Canadian officer and the whistle was what he used on the golf course instead of yelling "Fore" That's the version I have always heard. It's also the official march of a US Marine regiment, though I cannot recall which one.
Esta música me encanta porque escuché por primera vez viendo la película el Puente sobre el río Wuay. esto cuando yo muy joven
i played this march with my country marching band
An immortal number indeed!
Oh how I love this march! I was privileged to play it in HS and College band plus a couple others. The one HS band leader actually played in J.P.Sousa's Band!!! Yes...and if you notice...this great band is played at a much slower tempo....almost like walking!
+Kathleen Hazeldine It is actually the correct tempo ie 120 beats to the minutes which is the stard quick march pace for the British Armed Forces
not all marches ought to be played at the 120 tempo some appeal more if played at 112 whilst others can be played faster than 120
Wonderful Tune....
Lovell v❤ March we as Cadets as Cadets in our school have Marched our a feet moves attitude magically for a his great Majesty ch as I e so powerfull Grand 💕 love 💕 🇱🇰🏏👍
Charel, ik heb aa gat gezieeen..
love the band🥰👏👏👏 and the marching 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎺🎺🎺🎷🧥🧥🧥🎩🎩🎩❤️❤️❤️🥰
@ridgerunner721601 the song was first sung by Allied troops in Europe. In the Pacific theatre the song starts "Bollocks & the same to you" , the first few lines of Colonel Boget were whistled by POWs as an insult to their captors.
I love the piece, just a bit tricky to play on the trombone.
my 7th and 8th grade band is playing this in our concert next week
