Been using the Duo since launch day and as each day passes I love it and the dual screens make for a new and interesting experience! This thing has gotten so much unfair hate online. This is the kind of device you need to get in your hands to really enjoy.
I'd take that device back to the store. that exposed internals at 3:23 can't be right. That is sketchy as heck! Also glad to see you messing with phones again!
Nice initial review. Waiting for a long term review. Great to watch your reviews after long time. Hope you'll make more videos as mentioned as new videos every weekend.
Hey Erica! I've missed your reviews, wonderful to see you doing this on a launch day! I pre-ordered the Duo and having been using it for about 24 hours so far, really enjoying it, even with the foibles on the software side.
Because of a surgery I'm staying at home and recently discovered your channel and I noticed you are a big fan of Nintendo (as I do) but I don't play anymore videogames since 2016 Through your channel you inspired me to rediscover what feels to play the Nintendo 3DS so, I took a zelda game( a link between worlds) and finished it again in hero mode. Thank you for remember me those things that makes me happy. Saludos
Welcome back my dear. We missed you terribly. Its time to hit the million subs so don't disappear on us again OK hun. Really glad to see you girl. 🤗👏👏💯😀💕
Its been a while! Im glad you still doing videos! Big way to comeback viewing this $1400 tablet. Should had been $800-$1000. The Surface Neo which is the bigger version and has a better reason to buy around the price of $1400
Does the outlook app work well on this device? My sense is that the 4:3 aspect ratio on this device makes it easier to read emails vs. the current 16:9 aspect ratio on most smartphones.
I agree, I can't see a reason to ever "close" this device. The back is glass too, so I just bought some thick screen protectors and a Dbrand skin and leave it in the screens out closed position all the time. I'm surprised m$ didn't go that route as well as other devices have been released using that screens out configuration in the past.
Thank you ERICA for pointing out something I've always felt about this concept that the other reviewers aren't saying. Not holding one it's tough to name but you just did: the thing where UA-cam disappeared from the backscreen. We get that the backscreen turned off but we don't get why UA-cam didn't come right back when you unfolded. That is NOT intuitive. You didn't request a screen clearing but got one. Well done.
Being a business product, the folding design also allows for a case with a physical lock, which means easy 3FA. Imagine a thin leather folio case with a diary lock as a deterrent.
Erica I don’t know if you’re reading this but on your switch motherboard swap why do you need the v2 digitizer or fan I’m thinking of doing that to my v1
Finally someone that understands this device is a true paradigm shift and hazy glimpse into the future. I have been using it for two days now. I'm sold, this level on productivity is seemingly impossible to walk away from after experiencing it first hand.
If the bezels were smaller and the gap nearly zero or a folding screen, this device would be incredible, I love that it’s like a little notebook, I’d use this to take notes for sure, they should make a pen that magnetically attaches to it somewhere...
And how do you make calls on this ? If the phone is in your pocket, do you take the phone out ? Completely fold out in order to take a call, and have too press answer or does it automatically answer when you fold out the device ?
Just hit answer if it's open or open it and fold it back all the way to answer. It's hilarious that that's one thing I didn't even think about because this ain't a phone. This is a tablet that can make calls. Haha
Erica Griffin in that regards my Teclast P80x works better as a phone then. Thank you for your answer. I have watched a few reviews of this Microsoft phone / phablet and had wondered about making and receiving calls
When they first show this phone 2 years ago it was more interesting than the actual look . It was smaller and when it was close you can see the incoming call and then when it opens the surprise that it was also a small tablet . This is way different and it looks like my phone lg 8x think q and I didnt pay $1,400 🤔
Its awesome ...but why realisticly would u "slap" in shut. I been using it for past 2 days. I never slapped it shut lol.. but overall super glitchy and laggy. My hardware amazing
Thank you for this informative deep dive. More than any UA-cam video I have seen. I will hold off. I wanna love it but I just don't think I can buy for that price. Like how I wanted the Windows phone back in the day to do well because Continuum looked amazing. Now we have Samsung Dex. I kind of hope that makes a comeback somehow here if the Surface phone line continues.
I don't mind companies experimenting with foldables but designs like these are more meant for different fields ie: Medicine. Unless our pockets change i only see the flip phone or Galaxy fold style working out for PHONES. Different foldable designs for different things running the same OS will be the future though... Question is who will realize this first and not try to market them as phones.
I do really love this phone but it's just too expensive for me to consider now. Maybe if I wait for awhile the price might become affordable for me....
I'm buying this in 2022 for 400 as my new kindle device and simple gaming This will help me extend the life of my more expensive phones This is great for Zoom meeting and you can pull up Office app like Outlook at the same time It also just got a software update and Android 11 Comic book reading and jazz on the other side
You always find those tiny details about the products that give you the big picture. 👍🏽
Thank you lol.
She is awesome.. very detail oriented... the title itself is thorough
As soon as she showed that area below the USB-C port I paused the video and double checked mine 😜

Totally agree

Fairly typical microsoft quality control tbh.
Nice initial review. Waiting for a long term review. Great to watch your reviews after long time. Hope you'll make more videos as mentioned as new videos every weekend.
I'd return that for an exchange, those panels exposing so much internals does not seem normal or acceptable :/
I also agree, my surface doesn't have any gaps like that. And I'm using my surface duo to respond to this comment by the way.
Same here, something is wrong with that Duo. Mine is cosmetically perfect.
That was the deal breaker for me
Reminds me of a phone I loved, the BlackBerry passport
Your videos are so soothing to my own inner technology nerd.
Hey Erica! I've missed your reviews, wonderful to see you doing this on a launch day!
I pre-ordered the Duo and having been using it for about 24 hours so far, really enjoying it, even with the foibles on the software side.
Love the amount of detail you go into compared to a lot of other reviewers; you can tell that you really USE the device and don't hide anything
hey erica great to have you back, thank you for sharing
"How do astronauts use the bathroom?" - I watched that same video haha. I guess I wasn't the only one that wondered about that.
"Phone"...yeah right xD That reminds me time when you had that gigantic Sony phone Xperia Z Ultra was it?
I still have an Xperia Z Ultra. After all these years, it's still a great phone. And its purple
Mine died sadly ... and i'm still waiting for sony to produce a worthy successor. the xa1/2 doesn't quite get to the same feel it had.
I still have a vivid memory of people using the very first Samsung Galaxy Tab as a phone.
@@roxdbox yeah. Good times.
I had that very phone it’s my favourite mobile device I have owned.
Hey Erica, glad to see you are actively making videos again!
Always good to see you Erica!
only review I've seen that addresses issues other reviewers don't talk about. great job.
Your reviews are very articulate. Kudos to you.
I didn't see any staining with my Duo in my pocket. Glad you brought that up didn't even think of that. Great review as always.
I always get excited when I see a new review up from you. Thanks!
being able to see the glue that holds the glass together would be unacceptable on a $500 phone, much less a $1400 phone...

Omg I havnt watched your channel in years ( maybe 4 years ) and i can already tell i am gonna binge watch all your vids in this lockdown😂
Good to see your thoughts on this device. Thanks

Looking forward for your long term review for this!
you will let us know when it's out of beta. wish it came with windows phone os, I miss those smooth sliding tiles!

Love your reviews... Looking forward to your thoughts on the galaxy flip. Pre-ordered mine black with a red hinge.
the nintendo 3ds looking kinda different 😳
retro is the new modern

Great video, Erica! Love your channel!
Absolutely love your content Erica. A real pleasure to watch your video's
Binge watching your videos! Love your Duo and Fold comparison ♥️
Learned a few things thanks for the review. Look forward to your next video on this phone!
They should make the screens curved at the hinge, that way that huge seam would look a little bit less awful with full screen stuff.
Have you exchanged your device for a replacement due to the exposed internals?
Will u try exchanging for the slight separation? Maybe it’s a one off
Are you back reviewing phones?
Been waiting so long for this!
The question is...when is the Z fold 2 coming to your channel? Would love to see your thoughts on it.
Best reviewer back with a bang

Adopting early tech is bad. Bless the rich who can afford the early models, creating enough demand so that the rest of us can afford it years later
@rrobertt13 I appreciate all the bugs they fix for version 3. Not all, just enough to justify version 4
Being a business product, the folding design also allows for a case with a physical lock, which means easy 3FA. Imagine a thin leather folio case with a diary lock as a deterrent.
Erica is the best tech reviewer
Will be interesting to see if the updates degrade the product in typical MS style or possibly even brick it!
I would definitely keep portrait lock on 90% of the time. The screens constantly flipping would drive me insane.
Erica I don’t know if you’re reading this but on your switch motherboard swap why do you need the v2 digitizer or fan I’m thinking of doing that to my v1
Can’t wait till the next video keep it up!!!

Are you getting the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to review as well?
I wanted this when I thought it ran Windows but if it's just Android.......why would I buy it instead of the Fold 2?
Hei Erica, do you know if they plan to release a version with another OS?
Thanks. I love your opinion on the latest technology. You're awesome. I am torn between duo vs Note ultra...
What a refreshing review of the Duo.
Loved the video, especially all the fine details. Can you show us how large the phone is as compared to the new Note or S20+ ? Thnakyou.
And how do you make calls on this ?

Lol. There are some things I'm curious to look at.
I'M THE DOCTOR...
Have a look at google pixel 4a. i want to know ur opinion about it.
Thank you
hi, more info like ... hdr in netflix and youtube? color gammut? nits? 10bits or 8+2 only 8?
Thanks for that great detailed review!
I absolutely love mine. So much I can do with this device.
Hey Erica did u get the necessary funding for ur videos??
Liked your detailed review.
After a month this will end up with her 3ds collection!!!!
Well done Erica!
What is the meaning of handy dandy ?
love this review. i think this would make a perfect e-reeder but still has more development to go before it's a phablet replacement
You must use the galaxy fold z2. And tell us your opinion compare to the surface duo
That build quality on a $1400 prototype?
The UA-cam pause button with full screen is quite hilarious
4:31 Typed: “Hello there”
Microsoft keyboard suggestion: This Surface Is
THIRSTY
The first time you slapped the device shut, I reached out to the screen and held my breath.
It's a constant struggle to me... I mean, I find very useful having two apps in different screens, but what about when I need just one bigger screen?

I'm sorry, I couldn't read that subtitle in the beginning. It's in Comic Sans MS 🤦♂️
That's so sad. Hey, can you signal to us about your being too cool for some things some more? I want to remember what high school was like.
Too much of Hello? Are you there?? Would drive me nuts
Thanks Erica for the review ;)
I would return that one. That open side panel is a no go.
Adopting early tech, always a big no.
Return it and buy fold 2
This device isn’t for me though i can appreciate the hardware. im excited to see what they bring to the table with the neo.
They should have made curved screen in the center.
They couldn’t pull off windows phone maybe they can pull off this 🤔
After seeing your review I put in my preorder for the Galaxy Tab S7 plus.
I pre-ordered the tab 7+ and the the fold 2.
Just wanted to say that I love your content and thanks to MrMobile for introducing me to it! :D

When you unboxed it, I thought you were unboxing a Microsoft 3ds lookalike.
Cool video tech talk
The phones nowadays are slighter larger than my old slider phone.
I don't understand the hype for the Surface Duo.
You have no vision of future. You dont know Panos Panay. He is the guy that future favors! Obey to Panos.
It's a promoted hype. Nobody wants it. But Microsoft thinks if they keep shoving it in people's faces enough time, they'll grow to want it.
I'm interested, but not at that price.
I do really love this phone but it's just too expensive for me to consider now. Maybe if I wait for awhile the price might become affordable for me....
