This should never be done from the inside. Under NO circumstances. Every residential structure is the USA has at least one egress window in every livable room. That means you can find the fire room from the exterior and soak the room with tank water long before an entry team can get ready and get the door open. When you have soaked the room, break out all the windows in that general area, from the exterior, to allow the gasses to exit directly out of the structure. When the entry team goes in, the interior will no longer be life threatening for them or the victims. I know that takes all the fun out of it, but firefighting is not there for their entertainment. Furthermore, notice how a straight stream doesn't turn off the flames or reduce the heat quickly. That threatens the victims and firefighters. Not only does that allow extension to take place, but you will also be turning the interior into a steam bath. You have to shut off the heat source to make everything better. Adjust the Adjustable nozzle to cover as much material as possible while still overcoming the energy of the fire. If the way you have been told to do things doesn't make sense, ask questions and demand answers. It is YOUR life at stake, not the officer's.

So according to you, find the fire from the exterior and extinguish it. And tell me about your method of removing occupants please, or when the fire is in the rear , or the fire escapes are full of people? Here we don’t sit outside of the door to the apartment waiting for the engines to find the fire from the outside, stretch a line or according to your operations manual, charge a tower ladder, why not.
