    Hi Marcelo!
Here in Portugal we use to say excuse me (algo como: desculpe ou com licença) in that situation. At least the most part of people does it and the answer is a kind of "no problem" (mais do tipo: à vontade, não tem mal).
About:"You're welcome" is just one of the ways used in English to reply to "thank you". Some years ago, the first time I was in London, I asked an information to a person and after his answer I thanked him and he replied "You're welcome". I got very surprised once I didn´t know that that could be our portuguese "de nada". My knowledge of English was fewer than now and I thought that that sentence only could mean:"Você é bem vindo". That was about 2011, after that I have been to London 4 times more. Fortunately, London is 2 hours from where I live (Porto, Portugal). For you it's much more far and surely more expensive going to London, but when you can do it, it is a great city to visit.
You are doing a great job in the way how you are impoving your English.

@@bellajully3740 Olá. Nasci e sempre vivi no Porto.

Answering with "No Problem" is a generational mistake. Mature adults usually know the proper response is "You're Welcome." For example, If a clerk in a store says No Problem, I think to myself, of course it's no problem. It's your job to serve me. Of course it's no problem. The reply should be YOU - ARE - WELCOME.
