Lyrics:
Don’t call me by my name
All of this is temporary
Watch as I slip away
for your sake
All of this is temporary
Well maybe I could hold you in the dark
You won’t even notice me depart
secondhand thread
in a second hand bed
with a second man’s head
leaving through the door without a word
You won’t even notice little bird
Better off dead so I reckon i’m headed to hell instead
So don’t wait for me
Don’t Wait for me
Wait ah
it’s not a happy ending
Don’t wait for me
Don’t Wait for me
Wait ah
it’s not a happy ending
Jesus needed a three day weekend
to sort out all his bullshit
To figure out the treason
I’ve been searching for a fortified defense
four to five reasons
but, Jesus,
you’ve got better lips than Judas
and I could keep your bed warm
otherwise I’m useless
I don’t really mean it
Cause who the fuck would choose this?
Well maybe I could hold you in the dark
You won’t even notice me depart
secondhand thread
in a second hand bed
with a second man’s head
leaving through the door without a word
You won’t even notice little bird
Better off dead so I reckon i’m headed to hell instead
So don’t wait for me
Don’t wait for me
Wait ah
It’s not a happy ending
Don’t wait for me
Don’t wait for me
Wait ah
It’s not a happy ending
Don’t wait for me
Don’t wait for me
Wait ah
It’s not a happy ending
Don’t wait for me
Don’t wait for me
Wait ah
all of this is temporary
All of this is temporary
all of this is temporary
All of this is temporary
Maybe I could hold you in the dark
You wouldn’t even notice me depart
Second hand thread in a second mans bed
With a second man’s head
all of this is temporary
All of this is temporary
all of this is

Each track is phenomenal. Halsey never disappoints.
Hi guys. I covered " The Tradition '' on my channel : ua-cam.com/video/Q7MDHmoHF58/v-deo.html
Hope you like it !!
She definitely doesn’t!! 💛💛💛❤️🔥💛💛💛💛
I love that bout her
Trent Reznor wrote it.
Then why did he say her song writing gave him goosebumps? She writes… she said their finger prints are all over the album….not that he wrote it. Sorry man don’t think so.👍👍
I loved the use of Halseys "Bells in Santa Fe" in the 8th episode of you season 4. the scene with marianne in the cage. masterpiece.
It was the 8th episode but none the less. Beautiful placement of the song.
the scene is SO good
Such a good scene and song. I immediately had to shazam it
That’s why I’m here! 😊
Also here ‘cause of “YOU” 😅
THIS IS THE SONG I WAS WAITING FOR
X2😩
Don’t wait for me
Don’t wait for me
WAIT
Me too and the other one she had in her trailer!
Same!
"All of this is temporary" is a great foreshadowing to what happens with Marienne in "You". Perfect song for that episode❤
The way she says ALL OF THIS IS TEMPORARY is so hauntingly beautiful. Oh maaan I feel like It's a memento mori moment.
I'm glad I'm not the only one 😂
@DÆRK I was watching this wearing my founders hoodie and seeing this comment I felt so connected lmao
Its a lyric from another song
Unus Annus
There is nothing to say. This might be the best song on the album. "All of this is temporary." this sentence sums up everything she's been through. She sacrificed a lot for this career and more. And now it is in its rightful place. In the background of these songs is a broken but repaired stronger heart. I love you and your music Ashley.♥️
She is talking about her baby no comparison to her superficial career don’t get it confused !!😢
This album gives me shivers. It's the kind of album a queen sings WHILE she declares war.
Edit: holy shit so many of you agree🥺
Oh you hit every word in the nail!!! Crazy that I thought the same - gave me chills
That’s exactly what the movie gave off!
EXACTLY!
@@lilysann4012 ikr!!!
@@Amunrablu yes!
One of the things I adore about this song is its title. It seems a kind of gothic to me so it sounds very majestic and tragic. I think 'bells in Santa Fe' can be funeral bells because of the lyric that's about losing someone you love with all your might which makes you lose yourself too. 'Santa Fe' means 'holy faith' so the song can be also about losing faith because of devastating pain.
Sorry for my english...
this is beautiful!! honestly i think halsey put multiple layers into this...
it is probably about her past miscarriages. she is singing to herself trying not to get her hopes up too high so that the pain when she loses another baby won’t be too bad.
“don’t call me by my name
all of this is temporary” she doesn’t want to name her baby too soon because all of it is temporary and the baby isn’t here to stay for long etc. all the lyrics make so much sense if you know abt ashley’s history of miscarriages and manic depression
Your English is perfect, don't apologise.
"all of this is temporary" is so addicting
I really wish I could tattoo melodies on my body
@@thecarnivorouskat YES!!!!!

It’s a line from a Circa survive song! So good
This is so dark, but beautiful. God she brings so much deepness and wonder. It’s so insanely amazing.
Check out Trent Reznors other work if you like this track.
Halsey is not just a singer, she is an ARTIST... and her ART... JUST PERFECT🔥⚔️🖤
Why in every song, people have to say art art art, bruh like that's enough, She is great and makes good songs, but don't do that, you are sounding like you commented before even listening to the song.. People know her actual worth..
@@Nikhilbashist I listened the song like again and again... And I think its art. Thats my opinion. If you dont think so respect me. I just shared what I thought

@@Nikhilbashist or maybe just let people enjoy music how they want to
Thanks YOU for bringing us to this amazing song.
In the context of the album being about pregnancy and horror, and what we know of her past miscarriages, these lyrics definitely sound like they’re from the point of a view of a child who won’t make it to full term. Like “don’t name me, don’t get attached to me, you’re going to lose me,” and I’m just tearing up thinking about how badly she’s wanted this baby.
Secondhand thread = the curette in the Dilatation and Curettage procedure (it's a thin af instrument that recovers the remains of a miscarriage)
Secondhand bed = likely a bed in a clinic
Second man's head = the midwife or doctor
Omg I hear it now…
OMG THANK U
"dont wait for me, it's not a happy ending" 💔
omg the way this throws us back to her "More" song
@@henritsoru omg i felt the chills when i read your comment
The scene with Marriene and this song GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS
I heard the beginning of this song in the trailers and was most excited for this song and OMG it did not disappoint!!! Halsey never disappoints
This entire album is such a masterpiece. It talks about such important topics at times and then it’s also very personal and interconnected to Halsey’s personal life. The music, the production, the transitions, everything is so well done
Can you explain? What are their meanings? I thought that all the songs have the same feminist vibe (I don't have a problem with it but you know, nowadays everyone is doing this things) but now I think it's much more than this
Because it's coproduced with Trent Reznor
this track is a masterpiece, but the album is really extraordinary. Halsey deserves to be recognized as one of the best and mature artists of this music era
Halsey's vocals/lyrics with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' production on this album created an avant garde emotionscape that I can't get enough of. MORE please!
❤
Fact: everyone who's coming here is becoming more stronger and confident after listening to this album
So fkn true

Right? I’ve been listening while at the gym. It’s Great work out fuel! 💪
This album is her best shit. Trent and Atticus really hooked this shit up. Her voice is great over their music.
Halsey with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross production is everything. This album has the Nine Inch Nails feeling and it's epic. Similar to The Downward Spiral and The Fragile.
100% it's almost like we got a new NIN album.
@@lednails I have listened to HTDA and it's great.
@@lednails This...
@@lednails Yup. Its more How to Destroy Angels and the albums from Hesitation Marks onward...
It's more of NIN with Trent and Atticus. This is also including their work for The Social Network and Gone Girl.
The production on this is INSANE 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Over 30 years of experience
I mean, yeah. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are gods in the music industry.
Ya for real this is a double entendre maybe more… people think they know what the song about but I don’t think so
You might like Nine Inch Nails :)
I feel this can be a Game of Thrones track. All the songs in this album is dark, meaningful and EPIC. 🔥
Exactly what I was thinking :)
I think they could be better in vikings
@@omar_02 Yeah, sounds awesome too.
When I heard "you won't even notice little bird", that's where my head went
Maybe it can be Yennefer's theme album from the Witcher
I’m a 34 year old man. A nine inch nails fan. With “eclectic” taste. This album is blowing my shit away. 😵💫
It's her lyrics as well. They're out of this world.
Trent never disappoints for sure. You can hear clearly his print in this album.
Same here. I'm about to be 38, and I had no idea this collaboration (I guess is what it would be called?) was happening until UA-cam threw up the Capitol Records interview with Halsey, Trent and Atticus. I already liked Halsey because she's just a damn good singer/songwriter, and the fact that she has done an album with Trenticus intrigued me enough to watch 20 minutes of the interview before going, "I gotta hear this shit". Played the first song of the album - good, ominous intro. Played the second song, this song - godfuckingdamnit this is a work of ethereal art.
I used to be a huge music snob when I was younger, and I hated pop. Or at least I thought I did because I've always loved 80's pop; I grew up on it. Phil Collins/Genesis, Peter Gabriel, etc. has always been my jam. Anyway, the older I've gotten the more I dropped the whole notion that only metal/industrial was music. And then it was, "Oh, pfft, only hardcore music is real music". And then, "Oh, only indie rock was music". I went through these phases every few years where my musical palette was growing, but I didn't even realize it. Over the decades, I grew to love most forms of music. And now, within the last few years I've realized that modern pop music, while I don't enjoy a lot of it, isn't any different than what pop was in the 80's for me. Now, I'll sit and listen and play my guitar along with Halsey just as I do with Metallica, Poison the Well and Minus the Bear.
Bit of a rant, but I guess I'm just saying I relate: I love NiN, and I admire what Halsey has been doing. This marriage of both worlds has created a utopia for my ears that makes me look back at my younger self and say, "Open your ears, you fucking nerd; you're missing out". Better late than never.
Likewise. 41 and I would not otherwise have ever heard this fantastic album.
@@DukeLetoIII Credit to you for coming to the realization! There is always good music out there for all different kinds of people. We all have different tastes, and there will always be new music being made that suits our ever-evolving tastes as we continue to grow older and live our lives.
Halsey keeps serving art after art, she never disappoints
Ive been a fan of this woman since i was 14. Im 21 and love her more and more every year. Her music has gotten me through bullying, depression, stress and heartbreak. So thank you halsey for helping so many young women like me❤❤❤
To me, it is 19 years old to now 25 years old. Love her. Every album is insanely good and her growth. So happy to see her to be a mother. MORE -> 1121❤️

"I could keep your bed warm otherwise I'm useless, I don't really mean it, bc who the fuck would choose this?" The whole album is an artistic masterpiece.
This album is so mature and open. Every song has a different vibe and message. It feels like she's speaking my mind. If I had to dedicate an album to my life it would be this one. Spectacular work! Our queen Halsey!
Wow the amount of grief and anger in this song is so palpable. I feel like I've read into Halsey's heart
she killed this whole album. never would have expected her to collab with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
My interpretation of this song is that she doesn't trust herself enough to get close to anyone so reduces herself to the role of a bedwarmer. "Maybe I could hold you in the dark, you won't even notice me depart" she sleeps with them/has a short relationship with them and then leaves because she doesn't trust herself with anything more than that, hence the "don't call me by my name, all of this is temporary" and the "don't wait for me, its not a happy ending". This theme was mentioned before in 'Forever..... is a long time' where she switches from love for a person to self hatred halfway through the song because she believes herself incapable of loving something without destroying it.
This makes so much sense!
There was another comment that said the song is about her miscarriages, which makes sense. “Don’t call me by my name. All of this is temporary.” She was afraid to name the child because she feared the pregnancy wouldn’t last.
@Joy Holmes yeah given her other songs in album too, the meaning related to her pregnancy did make sense to me as well but then I don't understand the bed warmer and other references in the song that @Sophia Mock has pointed out (which I too believed the song to be about in the first place).
@@charvyr I think when she says “maybe I could hold you in the dark” it’s referencing her dreaming about holding her newborn child “you won’t even notice me depart” is her waking up from that dream and it disappearing from her mind. When we dream, most times we don’t remember what it was we were dreaming about once we awake.
@@joyholmes254 the holding in the dark I interpreted it as holding a miscarried baby only after death (either the baby's or after hers as well) but well, maybe it's a tad too sad
This song paired with Marienne in the cage was so masterfully done.
It was beautifully agonizing.

Okay I’ve said the same thing while listening to every song but this whole album is too much, so relatable and so beautiful and it’s pure art
This track as well as “I am Not a Woman, I’m a God” gives me so many NIN feels. That plus Halsey’s hauntingly angelic voice… 👌 👑 🔥
For sure. Very much like "Closer". So good
She is not God. Shes a musician who says what people want to hear
she is the definition of: Art and perfection
If this album doesn't win a production grammy as well... Just too good
Halsey + Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross is the most amazing combination we didn't even know we needed. This is classic.
Trent Reznor and his friend did a great job at producing this album! We need more works like this album! Their duo is amazing and Halsey s vocals are on level as usual!

This one is A MASTERPIECE. I never felt like this before but i'm in trouble when i eard this song FOR REAL ???? The instrumental ? lyrics ? voice ? I can't breathe. THIS IS THE BEST SONG
Literally!!
As a huge Nine Inch Nails fan I just wanted to say this album is absolute fire, and if you've never given NIN a listen, now's as good a time as any.
Everything they touch is gold. I was so excited when I heard they will produce the album.
Can you request me some of their songs cus I really love their touch
@@flyingcucumber9325 well if you prefer female vocals you can also check out How To Destroy Angels because that's basically NIN with Trents wife on vocals. The 6 song EP they put out first is great all around, from the album Welcome Oblivion, I like Ice Age, How Long, and And the Sky Began to Scream
@@flyingcucumber9325 as for NIN proper it might just depend on your mood, I like the album With_Teeth (2005) as a jumping off point as it's pretty accessible while still being deep and worth multiple listens to really absorb. Dave Grohl did most of the drums so it has a more rock-centric feel.
It's a common sentiment that The Fragile (1999) is NINs best album and besides maybe the song Starfuckers Inc I'd have to agree. Into the Void was probably the biggest single off of that album because it's got a really good groove and some nice angsty lyrics, but I'm also partial to We're In this Together Now, the Big Come Down, Please, and The Great Below.
@@flyingcucumber9325 but every album has something great IMO, from the almost new wave feel of songs like Sin from Pretty Hate Machine (1989), to the instant classic that was Closer off of The Downward Spiral(1994), to the politically charged nature of Capitol G from Year Zero (2007), to Discipline from The Slip (2009), I could go on and on.
The pain mixed with the strength...the rarest combination of emotions i have heard in someone's vocal...truely rare🖤🥀
"YOU" brought me here!!! Digging this song, glad I'm here.
the vocals and the background vocals are killing me, this is amazing
i lost my cat recently to feline leukemia. it's been three months but it still hurts like hell. he's not human, but he felt like my son. we did nearly everything together and he brought me so much joy. this song helps so much with the grief and the self resentment that springs out sometimes.
So sorry for your loss! I loss my dog because she was on a terminal disease ):, I understand you, feel satisfied for try and do the best you could, hes not suffering anymore, hes in gods hands! Send a huge
The whole album is a MASTERPIECE.
An album that's dark and powerful.
I'm blown away!
This is a masterpiece.
"Jesus needed a three day weekend to sort out all his bullsh*t figure out the treason" is my favorite part, plus i love how the ending cuts off suddenly and all the static is so well doneeee
what does it mean ? I don't understand this sentence
@@julie-cz9fb It's a biblical reference. Jesus was betrayed by the apostle Judas who outted his presence among enemies by giving him a kiss. Judas' actions are what got Jesus killed. After Jesus died on the cross, he was entombed. After three days, his followers came to pray at his tomb and saw that he wasn't there because he had risen and gone to heaven. So the reference "Jesus needed a three-day weekend" refers to Jesus and the three-day period in which he was entombed. "Figure out the treason" is a reference to him ruminating on Judas' betrayal.
@@haute03 how does it relate to the context of the song tho?
@@_sycophantic_ it means that even Jesus needed about 3 days to figure out about the betrayal ...so is she suppose to to cope with betrayal of her miscarried baby in a second...like she isn't prepared enough to cope with the trauma...if I used a rough language than I am sorry..english isn't my first language
