We started in Oia to catch the sunset. Thousands gather for this breathtaking view. The town is lined with restaurants and shops, and its architecture is stunning. For dining, we recommend Feredini or Ambrosia for the best views, but book 2 days in advance. Feredini offers amazing views, reasonable prices, and no reservations are needed. Alternatively, there is Scala Restaurant. This is part of the best travel guide to Santorini.
We hosted a yoga retreat at Canavas Villas in Emporio, an underrated town in Santorini. The villa accommodates 14 people and features two pools. It’s built into the mountain, keeping it cool and fresh, and includes a rooftop and a jacuzzi overlooking the town. Include this in your best travel guide to Santorini.
Emporio is one of the largest villages in Santorini, featuring beautiful architecture, narrow streets, and lovely cafés. The Old Barber Shop is a great restaurant, though the service can be slow.
Nearby, Perivolos Beach (36.34568871805999, 25.46464635661144) is the longest black sand beach in Santorini, lined with restaurants and beach bars. We recommend Frati for great food and a lovely experience.
We then headed to Akrotiri, known for its beaches, wine, and stunning views of the caldera. We stayed at Akrotiri Rosa, a five-star resort with a gym, pool, spa, and spacious facilities. It’s less busy, making it a great base for exploring the area. A must in the best travel guide to Santorini.
From Akrotiri, we visited Imerovigli, which offers the best views of the caldera. This serene town is less crowded than Oia and truly unique. The main church (36.432115207227405, 25.422632763914944) and a viewpoint towards Fira Stefano (36.431638642112325, 25.424457730682885) are great Instagram spots.
We returned to Oia for dinner at Feredini (36.462355748614584, 25.38105212305752), where the fish ceviche and truffle pasta were to die for. Parking in Oia was easier than expected with a large paid parking space (36.463548256029085, 25.37872283169502).
Waking up early the next day, we captured pictures in Oia. The best sunrise spot is at Rhenia's Suites (36.46141164851177, 25.37612515500498), but booking a stay is recommended to access the rooftop. Popular Instagram spots like the Three Domes (36.46137605493186, 25.375948799761566) and Kastro House (36.46063198146482, 25.37315806266318) can get crowded early, so plan accordingly. For breakfast, we headed to Krinaki Tavern in Finikia (36.46315082672614, 25.39341424211743), which offers traditional Greek dishes in a town unspoiled by mass tourism.
On our way home, we stopped at Pyrgos, a quaint town with winding streets and shops. Penelope's Café (36.383024846520506, 25.450275683552857) offers the best view of the church and is an Instagram hotspot. A key spot in the best travel guide to Santorini.
In the afternoon, we visited Red Beach (36.349041950931074, 25.39389335074641), the most scenic beach on the island, located about five minutes from Akrotiri.
We spent the afternoon in Fira, the capital city perched on the mountain with views of the caldera and volcano. Free parking is available at the entrance to the city (36.41405130040958, 25.43396699348794). Fira offers a more city-like atmosphere with many shops, bars, and luxury boutiques. A must-visit for shopping, bars, and nightlife, it’s about a 15-minute drive from Akrotiri. The Three Bells Church (36.42350534519867, 25.4285444074174) is the main attraction, offering incredible views.
On our last day, we visited Megalochori, known for artisanal goods and a scenic road below the church (36.37739675737763, 25.43222535499957). It’s the smallest town but charming nonetheless.
This is a four-day itinerary for Santorini. The island offers unique architecture, unparalleled views, and is one of the most scenic in the Mediterranean. Despite the tourism, it remains spectacular. Our favorite places were Imerovigli, followed by Oia, Fira, Emporio, Pyrgos, and Megalochori. There is much more to see, including Caldera Volcano, Amoudi Bay, White Beach, Firostefani, and many other restaurants and accommodations. All musts in the best travel guide to Santorini.
A few tips: get a small car as the roads are narrow, choose accommodations in less touristy spots for easier logistics, and consider visiting in September when the winds pick up a bit.
