    Looks like the route the young man a month ago tried to take…unfortunately he didn’t make it. I can understand why after watching your efforts. God bless .🙏

      Yes, I'm thinking the same thing. To make matters worse he was not in the right frame of mind for hiking through the dangerous terrain. He had no clue what was ahead. Very sad indeed.

      Yeah to be honest seeing this really puts the whole accident into perspective for me.
      If I put myself at he’s age after I had left a rave in a foreign country.
      I can understand why he made the decisions he did. Especially considering it was he’s first holiday out of the uk. Could happen to anyone. RIP Jay Slater 💚

      You have to be kidding. After watching these fully equipped, experienced hikers slipping and sliding, losing the trail, you still believe our off his head urbanite walked here in his shorts and flimsy footwear with no water. Don't you ever question what you are told.

      @@jackq6797 But it was not his first holiday out of the UK at all, only but first time with friends instead of parents and brother. He had been to raves and other festivals with his friends many, many times as well. WAY more important: this kid was murdered. He was stabbed to death on a beach which is a four minute walk from Papagayo beachclub. His body was hid for many weeks before it was dumped in a ravine, breaking as many bones as possible to have it look like a fall. Bones broken after death are not distinguishable from bones broken before death.

    Very hard hike indeed. The difference in altitude is more than 1300 metres. Did it a couple of days ago. If I were to do it again I would camp down at the beach and do the walk up the next day. There is also another fun barranco you could scramble around in on the way down or up: barranco retamar, which joins this ravine where you get down to the colour bands where the boulder-section starts. This easily adds another hour to the hike though. I also got lost several times. It is, as you mention, very difficult to follow the "path" as there are usually a million parallell goat paths that can lure you off the main path. I had read that this route takes around 6,5 hours down and up. I did it in about 7 hours and 20 minutes, but with a very long and enjoyable rest at the beach with a couple of swims.

    Seems funny seeing a sunny day in Tenerife, yet you are both wearing padded jackets. I seem to only remember black beaches when I was there and that looked a real rocky beach there. Nice to have it all to yourselves but looked a tough day to get there, cheers Alan

      If he was walking home, as news states, it's very silly to choose a trail that leads to a dead end beach. Clearly you would walk on the road. The whole thing is quite suspicious.

      @@daphned67with a dead phone battery and unable to navigate the mountains, he probably headed for the ocean (thinking there was a beach or civilisation) and it would be an easier/more direct route back to his accommodation. A beautiful location, but as proven, potentially deadly for the inexperienced and unprepared.

      @@ZerHour Obviously this terrain is extremely vast and dangerous, and there appears to be many ways of getting lost and to lose your footing, especially being a teenager still probably under the influence of drugs etc with no food, water or sense of direction. I'm sure the people that made this video can vouch for that, but I'm also here to understand the area more out of curiosity

    • @outdoorting
      @outdoorting  28 днів тому +8

      @ZerHour to understand this ground you need to walk it. It is a path that is not maintained it changes seasonally, plus wild goats roaming can change sections. There are parts where you have to walk along thin ledges to get around dried waterfalls and drops. The ground is loose and no where to hold on. Very easy to fall in multiple places even on the correct route, if you follow a goat path that leads off the actual route even by a few meters you can end up 10m higher on a ledge looking over the main path in only a few steps. Imagine a 3d maze stretched out, this is Barranco Juan López
