Philips can't play in Man City because he's not so good with the ball in small spaces. West Ham fit him perfectly and don't expect to pass the ball around overmatched by a high press. A superb signing.

Leeds fans will tell you that he’s never been the same since he got that bad injury in his last season with us. He was quite poor in his last few months for the club. Murphy is also right that pre-Bielsa making him none of us would have cared if he had been sold to another Championship club.

This is part of the Man City financial nonsense that irked a lot of people. They only signed Kalvin so none of the other top clubs could in England.
Nice guy who Pep says trains well and liked around the team, but 6 starts and overlooked so many times when Rodri wasn’t available or needed to be rested. I think Pep can see his game intelligence is lacking at the top level and always seem to react to situations rather than be proactive like Rodri shows week in week out. Good luck with the loan move Calvin 👍
Man had one good tournament for England, and people thought he was Rodri. Guardiola's given him plenty of time in training to meet standards at the club and have a good look at his progress, and he clearly hasn't, which he why he's been allowed to go.
Alvarez, Philips and Ward-Prowse sounds scary.

I hope to see JWP selected in the West Ham team before Phillips, just as it should be for England.

He still didn’t give him any chances at all. Why buy him if he doesn’t know how to play the ball forward. Clearly didn’t watch him for Leeds in the prem as that was his main attribute , playing it forward between the lines.
@@mack983it’s not about playing it forward. As a 6 for city, you need to be able to receive the ball from the keeper when you are under pressure and make the right decision in small spaces.

Phillips’ at his best is exciting to watch, dunno what these guys are on about. His ability to pinch the ball off a player’s toes, or drop into a sweeper role when sensing danger and launch attacks with pin point diagonal balls is immense. He just lacks the ability to go past players and doesn’t specialise in getting out of tight spaces, hence why he’s struggled at City. Pep obviously didn’t watch enough of him before he bought him
